After agreeing to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with first baseman Ike Davis earlier today, the Mets settled with another of their players, agreeing to a a one-year, $1.85 million deal with outfielder Eric Young Jr. according to reports.
Young, 28, led the National League with 46 stolen bases in 2013 after coming to the Mets in a waiver trade after the Rockies designated him for assignment in June. He played 91 games for the Mets and batted .251 with a .318 on-base and .647 OPS in 374 at-bats.
As things stand now, Young will likely come off the bench as a fourth outfielder for the Mets this season, playing some left and center field as well as some time at second base.
With Davis, Young and Ruben Tejada ($1.1 million) signed, the Mets have four remaining arbitration-eligible players: infielders Lucas Duda, Daniel Murphy and pitchers Bobby Parnell and Dillon Gee.
