Two comments:
1. The link with Andrew Brown´s name connects to the baseball-reference page for a different Andrew Brown.
2. Our Andrew Brown has 240 of his 570 minor league games at 1B, so he has significant experience there. Is he the short-term solution? I don´t know.

Jessep grerat expectations NOT fullfilled, white, black or purple is accurate. That is the issue. However, the slack or rope before giving up or demotion is the double standard. Whites have more slack and more rope than others. This is thru the media which makes excuses which was the issue you originally made. My reply addresses that issue. :)

I think you're injecting an issue that literally has nothing to do with the subject at all. There is a great expectation for Ike Davis to be one of the best 1B in the NL now for the 2nd straight year - last year he started almost exactly as bad but people gave him every excuse in the book....this year, same expectations but the excuses are not there. So the problem must be Ike Davis and not "rust."

That's the story whether Ike Davis is white, red, black, or purple.

Hey Benny -

Yes" an argument can certainly be made that the Mets will be playing for high draft picks for the next three year.

That puts the team right on course to start winning in 2018. Of course by then Harvey will have left via free agency.

Nice to see Andrew Brown didn't go to AAA and sulk. He picked up where he left off at Citi Field... Power Ball!

What, exactly, is the logic and purpose of keeping Ike Davis in the clean-up slot - or even on the MLB squad for that matter - when his game continues to decline on both sides of the ball? The team is not winning, so his presence cannot be justified. At this point, I think Ike is becoming more like Oliver Perez.

What, exactly, would be the harm with sending Ike to AAA to get healthy, promoting Brown to LF and switching Duda to 1st base? Where is the harm? Shouldn't ball players be awarded promotions based on merit?

Great point. As far as I'm concerned, Ike has not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he really is an everyday MLB player. The second half of last year could easily have been a fluke. However, that $3 million salary the Mets gave him made him think that he was already an elite player, who was just entitled to play 1st base. He really thought he had David Wrights stature, without putting up several NL leading seasons, as Wright has done. He has the gaul to gripe abount not being named to the World Baseball Classic USA team. I also understand that the Coupons pressured Omar to draft Ike. Did their marketeers tell them it would be good business to have a big strong Jewish 1st baseman on a NY team? To a large extent, Ike appears arrogant, stubborn and hard to coach. Maybe it was because his daddy was a former Yankee. But there have been a number of sons of former ballplayers who have made themselves elite players in their own rights: e.g., Bonds, Griffey Jr, Fielder. He's either not that good or he doesn't work hard/smart enough. All I know is that I'm sick and tired of this overhyped loser killing an already weak team and making it worse. At least if he were doing his job, we would probably be on our way to a similar record as last year, instead of heading for 100 loses.

NO, METSIE, ANKIEL IS ABSOLUTELY NO TYPE OF FIX BEYOND THE FINAL GAME,2013 JUST AS A CAR WITH 4 BALD TIRES, 1 GONE FLAT CAN EITHER BE TOWED TO A BONE YARD OR PURCHASE A SPARE.
U AREN'T LIKELY TO CHOOSE A PIRELLI OR MICHELAIN SPARE TO ACCOMPANY THE 3 REMAINING BALDIES WITH YOUR FINGERS TIGHTLY CROSSED ANY MORE THAN U'LL SEND OFF THE ENTIRE CAR TO THE CRUSHER.

METSIE, NO, BEYOND THIS SEASON IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE NIEUWENHUIS OR DEN DECKER THOUGH MORE THAN LIKELY THE ORIGINAL MINAYA DESIGNED VISION WAS THAT WOSDERFUL CF PROSPECT LOST TO THE FORD EXPLORER ROLLOVER INCIDENT KILLING PLAN A, THE MOST LIKELY HEIR APPARENT TO THE COMPLETETD TERM OF BELTRAN; HOWEVER NO ONE COULD ENVISION THE CRASH OF '08 & THE MADOFF WAKE. ANY MORE THAN THAT FATEFUL EXPLOERER CRASH HAD IT NEVER HAPPENED NO APPEARNCES BY COWGILL, NIEWENHUIS AS PLAN B, denDECKER, PLAN C. OR IS THAT NOT ENOUGH CONTINGENCIES? AS EVERYTHING WAS HYPERDRIVEN BY FINANCIAL COLLAPSES BOTH INTERNAL & EXTERNAL A HUGE HOLE WAS RENDERED IN THE FLAGSHIP BY INADEQUATE & LIKELY "OVERLY IN SEARCH OF BARGAIN INTERNAL SLUTIONS SAVING $$$ & PICKS" LED TO THIS SUDDEN...B A M!

ONE FLAT BALD TIRE, AT LEAST, 3 TO GO(LF,RF,WHEREVER) & ONTO PLAN D...TBD. AFTER A 35% SEASON OF BULLPEN TROUBLES & LH TREVAAILS, I AM INCENSED THAT OUR ONE DIRECT COMPETITOR DESERVING A LAURELS REST OVER THEIR BULLPEN, ATLANTA, SHOULD SO EASILY & AFFORDABLY UNEARTH JOE BIEMEL, ON A BARGAIN MiLB DEAL AT THE FIRST CRISIS WHEN OUR RESOURCES SHOULD'VE BEEN SET ON SCOUR SINCE APRIL 1. WHOMEVER WAS ASSIGNED LH RELIEF SOLUTIONS DESERVES A PINKSLIP.
MWTSIE, IS BIEMEL ANY KIND OF ANSWER IN ATLANTA? NO MORE & NO LESS THAN ANKIEL IN FLUSHING, ESP FOR WHAT I ANTICIPATE AS A MLB MINIMUM WAGE SCALE KNOWING ALDERSON KNEW ANKIEL HAD BEEN RELEASED FROM A "PROVE IT" MiLB CONTRACT WITH INVITATION

ARMED WITH THAT CIRCUMSTANCE & OFFERING A FULL MLB LEVEL 1Y DEAL ANY SALARY HIGHER THAN 480K MINIMUM WOULD STARTLE ME; AS I SEE IT THAT'S NOT A TERRIBLE PRICE, WHEN YOUR BACK IS UP AGAINST IT & YOU ARE MORE THAN LIKELY GETTING MLB CALIBER CF DEFENSE AND A BOTTOM OF THE LINEUP AVG ASCCOMPANIED BY A BONUS OF LATE LINEUP OCCASIONAL POWER THAT HAS NOW SURPASSED YOUIR PREMERE POWER RESOURCE[WRIGHT] ON THE SEASON BY 40%.
WERE U EXPECTING JASON BOURNE? SO WHAT, IF ANKIEL'S A PATCH ON AN INNERTUBE, NOT THE PIRELLI U ENVISIONED; BUT .225 + HR POP FROM #7 HOLE ISN'T TO BE SNIFFLED @.
BTW, METSIE ALONG WITH YOUR CONTINED COMPLAINT & POINTLESS CHAGRIN WHO WAS YOUR PREFERRED CF SOLUTION IN MID-MAY IF NOT ANKIEL?

PLEASE DO NOT BORE ME WITH ANY DREAMED UP "WE COULDA/SHOULDA DEALT FORS" WHEN THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CORROBERATING SUPPORT OF CHEAPLY PRACTICAL ACQUISITION COSTS BECAUSE, I BELIEVE, EVERY GM KNOWS WHO IS DESPERATE FOR WHAT AND THEY SET IMMODESTLY HIFGH PRICES SUCH AS A d;ARNOUD, SYNDERGAARD OR WHEELER FOR THE OBVIOUSLY NEAR JETTISONMING GARBAGE U MAY NEED.

IN MY 50+ YEARS AT THIS METFAN CAREER I HAVE YET TO SEE ONE OF THOSE "BARGAINS"MATERIALIZE WITHOUT HAVING TO FIRST COUNT THE REMAINING FINGERS AFTER THE HANDSHAKE AT LEAST NOT WHEN WE'RE THE SHOPPER; SURELY JOE FOY'S GENERAL AVAIKLABILITY WAS WIDELY KNOWN & MANY SPECULATED ON THE # OF BATS & BALLS IT WOULD TAKE. GUESS WHAT!

U AREN’T LIKELY TO CHOOSE A PIRELLI OR MICHELAIN SPARE TO ACCOMPANY THE 3 REMAINING BALDIES WITH YOUR FINGERS TIGHTLY CROSSED ANY MORE THAN U’LL SEND OFF THE ENTIRE CAR TO THE CRUSHER.

METSIE, NO, BEYOND THIS SEASON IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE NIEUWENHUIS OR DEN DECKER THOUGH MORE THAN LIKELY THE ORIGINAL MINAYA DESIGNED VISION WAS THAT WOSDERFUL CF PROSPECT LOST TO THE FORD EXPLORER ROLLOVER INCIDENT KILLING PLAN A, THE MOST LIKELY HEIR APPARENT TO THE COMPLETETD TERM OF BELTRAN; HOWEVER NO ONE COULD ENVISION THE CRASH OF ’08 & THE MADOFF WAKE. ANY MORE THAN THAT FATEFUL EXPLOERER CRASH HAD IT NEVER HAPPENED NO APPEARNCES BY COWGILL, NIEWENHUIS AS PLAN B, denDECKER, PLAN C. OR IS THAT NOT ENOUGH CONTINGENCIES? AS EVERYTHING WAS HYPERDRIVEN BY FINANCIAL COLLAPSES BOTH INTERNAL & EXTERNAL A HUGE HOLE WAS RENDERED IN THE FLAGSHIP BY INADEQUATE & LIKELY “OVERLY IN SEARCH OF BARGAIN INTERNAL SLUTIONS SAVING $$$ & PICKS” LED TO THIS SUDDEN…B A M!

ONE FLAT BALD TIRE, AT LEAST, 3 TO GO(LF,RF,WHEREVER) & ONTO PLAN D…TBD. AFTER A 35% SEASON OF BULLPEN TROUBLES & LH TREVAAILS, I AM INCENSED THAT OUR ONE DIRECT COMPETITOR DESERVING A LAURELS REST OVER THEIR BULLPEN, ATLANTA, SHOULD SO EASILY & AFFORDABLY UNEARTH JOE BIEMEL, ON A BARGAIN MiLB DEAL AT THE FIRST CRISIS WHEN OUR RESOURCES SHOULD’VE BEEN SET ON SCOUR SINCE APRIL 1. WHOMEVER WAS ASSIGNED LH RELIEF SOLUTIONS DESERVES A PINKSLIP.
MWTSIE, IS BIEMEL ANY KIND OF ANSWER IN ATLANTA? NO MORE & NO LESS THAN ANKIEL IN FLUSHING, ESP FOR WHAT I ANTICIPATE AS A MLB MINIMUM WAGE SCALE KNOWING ALDERSON KNEW ANKIEL HAD BEEN RELEASED FROM A “PROVE IT” MiLB CONTRACT WITH INVITATION

ARMED WITH THAT CIRCUMSTANCE & OFFERING A FULL MLB LEVEL 1Y DEAL ANY SALARY HIGHER THAN 480K MINIMUM WOULD STARTLE ME; AS I SEE IT THAT’S NOT A TERRIBLE PRICE, WHEN YOUR BACK IS UP AGAINST IT & YOU ARE MORE THAN LIKELY GETTING MLB CALIBER CF DEFENSE AND A BOTTOM OF THE LINEUP AVG ASCCOMPANIED BY A BONUS OF LATE LINEUP OCCASIONAL POWER THAT HAS NOW SURPASSED YOUIR PREMERE POWER RESOURCE[WRIGHT] ON THE SEASON BY 40%.
WERE U EXPECTING JASON BOURNE? SO WHAT, IF ANKIEL’S A PATCH ON AN INNERTUBE, NOT THE PIRELLI U ENVISIONED; BUT .225 + HR POP FROM #7 HOLE ISN’T TO BE SNIFFLED @.
BTW, METSIE ALONG WITH YOUR CONTINED COMPLAINT & POINTLESS CHAGRIN WHO WAS YOUR PREFERRED CF SOLUTION IN MID-MAY IF NOT ANKIEL?

PLEASE DO NOT BORE ME WITH ANY DREAMED UP “WE COULDA/SHOULDA DEALT FORS” WHEN THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CORROBERATING SUPPORT OF CHEAPLY PRACTICAL ACQUISITION COSTS BECAUSE, I BELIEVE, EVERY GM KNOWS WHO IS DESPERATE FOR WHAT AND THEY SET IMMODESTLY HIFGH PRICES SUCH AS A d;ARNOUD, SYNDERGAARD OR WHEELER FOR THE OBVIOUSLY NEAR JETTISONMING GARBAGE U MAY NEED.

IN MY 50+ YEARS AT THIS METFAN CAREER I HAVE YET TO SEE ONE OF THOSE “BARGAINS”MATERIALIZE WITHOUT HAVING TO FIRST COUNT THE REMAINING FINGERS AFTER THE HANDSHAKE AT LEAST NOT WHEN WE’RE THE SHOPPER; SURELY JOE FOY’S GENERAL AVAIKLABILITY WAS WIDELY KNOWN & MANY SPECULATED ON THE # OF BATS & BALLS IT WOULD TAKE. GUESS WHAT!

One can certainly argue about keeping Reyes and KRod or trading Beltran and Dickey from a pure Baseball point of view. There are / were valid points pro & con.

From a financial point of view & considering the longterm survival of the ownership group they were absolutely inevitable.

I feel the Beltran trade was one that needed to be made. Its my honest feeling that Beltran sincerely did not want to come back and play for the mets any longer. If the mets fo didn't get anything for him and he still left (which as I said I felt was inevitable) it would have been a much worse situation. Even as Beltran continues to stay healthier than expected and put up strong numbers I would make that trade 100 times over considering the given situation and a potential ace in the making coming here in return.

I may be in the minority but I also feel resigning Reyes at the cost and term he was looking for would have been a bad investment. He's a spark plug and an awesome ball player, but he is also a player whose game tremendously relies on his legs, which also happen to be the part of his body that he's very susceptible to injuring (as we've seen time and time again). Add that to the fact that he's not getting any younger and its a tough call. Jose was my favorite player on this team from his debut, but the mets have historically overpaid for high profile players and given them too many years ignoring the likelihood of an eventual decline so I have to respect them opting to not bring him back. People in this organization felt Tejada could be a formidable big league SS and they ran with that notion. This is the part I don't necessarily agree with, though, aside from how the mets handled the negotiations with Jose.

Krod was very good in my honest opinion, but I can see the team not being impressed with his off field problems that brought bad press to the team during the year. This may very well have been weighed far too heavily by Alderson and company, but I don't have an issue with sending Krod on his way either.

For me the problem isn't that the Mets made the moves they made, its that there were no follow-up moves made to improve the current team, or more importantly the franchise's future (with the exception of acquiring wheeler). With all of the money coming off the books the mets could have reinvested and made this team better sooner. Instead the money was frivilously spent on players like big Frank who was never a very good closer at any stop in his career. They brought people in who left a tremendous amount to be excited about and it feels like it was done just because those players were inexpensive. You can't expect to keep the attention of such a passionate fan base in a huge media market by employing that strategy... and this is where the team has failed in its "rebuilding" process.
