Q & A With Mako Oliveras, Manager of the Binghamton Mets

While on my trip to Binghamton I had the chance to interview Mako Oliveras manager of the B-Mets. He was a great guy to talk to, and based on what players have to say about him he’s a great manager. Will Sommer: How did you begin your coaching career in minor league baseball? Mako Oliveras: I signed in 1968 with the Red Sox and ever since then I’ve been in baseball Will Sommer: For how [...]

Q & A With B-Mets Catcher Josh Thole

The other night in Binghamton I had the chance to interview Josh Thole, who is expected to get the call up to the majors when rosters expand September 1st. Thole has struggled with the bat in August but still has a .324 batting average, with 32 XBH. Even though he lacks power, my belief while watching him take his at-bats, is that he will be a quality everyday catcher in the majors. Will Sommer: Have [...]

Q&A With Mets Beat Writer Adam Rubin

Adam Rubin of the Daily News was kind enough to answer a few questions for Mets Merized Online. It’s been a hectic week as far as Mets news goes, and I wanted to get his thoughts on the Halladay situation, Carlos Beltran’s bone bruise, the shift in our top prospects, and other Mets concerns. 1. According to a report by Jon Heyman, Omar Minaya rejected a trade that would have landed Roy Halladay in exchange for prospects; [...]

Our Q & A With Jon and Lisa of the Subway Squawkers

A Yankee fan from Staten Island and a Manhattan Met fan sound off about their teams – and each other. That’s the tag line for Jon Lewin and Lisa Swan, better known as the Subway Squawkers! With the Subway Series suddenly upon us once again, they were kind enough to field some questions for us on the Mets and Yankees. They have been squawking since 2006 and whether you’ve seen them on SNY’s Mets Weekly or read their [...]

Q & A with Michael Shapiro; Author of Bottom of the Ninth

Please enjoy this interview I recently conducted with Michael Shapiro, author of the new book, “Bottom of the Ninth”. Will Sommer Your book, Bottom of the Ninth, what inspired you to write it? Michael Shapiro I guess the thing that really inspired me to write Bottom of the Ninth was the idea that… What baseball became over the 1960s, when I really became a fan, was not necessarily inevitable. The Mets of the early 1960s [...]

My Interview With The Nats Blog

I recently answered some questions for The Nats Blog in anticipation of the upcoming weekend series with the Washington Nationals. The Mets are off to a 6-8 start, are you disappointed with how things are going right now? Definitely. Although I wouldn’t say I’m surprised by their early performance, it’s still disappointing to experience. The sad part is I don’t see an easy way out right now given the current makeup of the rotation after [...]
