2011 Mets Opening Day GFX: R.A. Dickey Is Daddy Dearest!

He’s In Mid-Season Form! After flaunting his prized knuckleball and delivering another solid spring effort against the Cardinals yesterday, Dickey hopped on a plane home so he could to be with his wife who is scheduled to deliver the couples’ fourth child. Such is the life for our very own action hero. R.A. Dickey tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowing just six hits and one earned run, while striking out five and walking none.  How does he [...]

Carlos Beltran Could Play Games This Weekend!

Good News! Carlos Beltran, Sandy Alderson and manager Terry Collins met today and mapped out a new plan that will have Beltran fully participating in Grapefruit League games by this weekend. All three are very confident that he will be breaking camp with the Mets on Opening Day. “At this point, assuming everything goes well over the next eight days, he’s right on track for Opening Day” said Sandy Alderson. “I still believe he’s going to be ready,” [...]

Former Mets That Are Going To The World Series

I’ve got plenty of reasons to root for the Texas Rangers in the World Series, but if you’re still looking for a few more reasons before you make up your own mind on who to root for, consider this… Hey, if you’re wondering if we have any Mets alumni on the Giants, we do… Guillermo Mota! “I am excited! I’m ecstatic for Nolan. This is so delightful, it tickles me pink. My neighborhood might not like it, [...]

To New Beginnings…

It would have been nice to end the season with one more win today, but I think we all saw the writing on the wall the second we saw Oliver Perez emerge from the bullpen gate. Still, I am very proud of the many accomplishments that so many of our players made this season, especially all the young ones. We’ve made some great strides in our minor league system and I expect we’ll see even [...]

Looking Towards 2011, I Like What I See!

So the Mets got mathematically eliminated last night, big deal. I did get to see many positive things to build upon for next season, and I’m choosing to focus on that. In this new series of graphics, I want to highlight some of the players that I believe will have more prominent roles in 2011 and could help pave the way to a better future. Jon Niese, Josh Thole, Bobby Parnell, Lucas Duda, Dillon Gee, [...]

Morning Grind: Johan Shutout, Boycott, K-Rod, No Country For Old Men

SHUTOUT The “Ace” Johan Santana pitched a shutout yesterday afternoon against the Rockies in a 4-0 win, giving up 4 hits in his complete game effort. Santana has, most emphatically in this game at least, shown why he is the real closer for this team. Whenever things get off track, the ace is supposed to bring things back into alignment with a quality start. It’s funny how Big Pelf is expected to be a stopper. [...]

My Beltran’s Back And You’re Gonna Be In Trouble!

I thought this day would never come, but here we are on the verge of the return of Carlos Beltran. When the Mets take the field tonight in San Francisco, Beltran will be in center field and according to Jerry Manuel, he’ll be batting cleanup behind David Wright and ahead of Ike Davis. Back on April 1st, how many of us could have predicted that the Mets would end the first half of the season in second [...]
