Mets Won’t Move Ruben Tejada For Houston Ace Roy Oswalt

From the files of the strange, but true… According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Mets will not part with “B Level” prospect Ruben Tejada, even if it meant acquiring a top of the rotation starter like Houston Astros Ace, Roy Oswalt. The Mets are so high on rookie infielder Ruben Tejada, their fill-in second baseman for the injured Luis Castillo, that they’d be reluctant to include him in a trade for a pitcher such [...]

Wigginton Wants To Stay With The Orioles

Orioles infielder Ty Wigginton wants to remain with the Orioles if the alternative is receiving little playing time elsewhere, according to Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun. Wigginton told Connolly that he’s not campaigning for a deal and enjoys playing in Baltimore: “If I were to go somewhere, I’d want it to be somewhere I could contribute,” the 32-year-old said. “But I love the city of Baltimore, and I love playing here for these fans.” [...]

Bringing Back Ty Wigginton and Adding Kevin Millwood

According to Dan Martin of the New York Post, righthander Kevin Millwood and super utility man Ty Wigginton are open to playing for the Mets if the Orioles become sellers between now and the trade deadline. Martin says that despite his 0-5 record, the 35-year-old Millwood has pitched well in his first season with Baltimore. He currently has a 3.89 ERA this season with a 1.27 WHIP and 58 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched. “I wouldn’t mind pitching [...]

Angels Need 1B – Can Mets Be Players?

Earlier today, after starting Angels 1B Kendry Morales went down with an injury, it was mentioned that the Angels have no solid backup plan at 1B. Can the Mets be players? The Mets currently have Daniel Murphy rehabbing at AAA, and with Brandon Wood struggling as well at 3B for the Angels, could he be a fit? Murphy could platoon between 1B and 3B and possibly be a good trading chip with a team the Mets [...]

Mets Say Not Interested In Mike Lowell? (Lennon)

Most of you who read this site are well aware of the competition for first base between Daniel Murphy, Ike Davis, Mike Jacobs and Fernando Tatis. Top prospect, Ike Davis is out-hitting and out-producing the competition and is miles ahead of the pack, but his youth and inexperience may have him ticketed for a one-way trip to Buffalo in the next few days. Jacobs and Murphy have done little to grab hold of the everyday [...]

Cardinals Sign Felipe Lopez For $1.75MM

Jon Heyman is reporting via Twitter that that the Cardinals have signed second baseman Felipe Lopez for about $1.75 million dollars. The deal includes some incentive bonuses. Wow… That’s less than what the Mets signed Alex Cora for. Anyway you look at this it’s an absolute steal for the Cards. Lopez, 29, has lingered on the free agent market despite hitting .310 with nine home runs and 57 RBIs in 151 games split between the Arizona [...]

Done Deal! Mets Sign Rod Barajas

Update 4:00 PM Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports says the Mets have indeed signed free-agent Rod Barajas to a one-year, $1 million contract. Barajas can earn another $1 million in ‘easily-attainable incentives,’ according to Rosenthal. This morning I wrote that I believed Barajas would accept the Mets latest offer. I also wrote that it would signal the end of Omir Santos as a Met. He be released unless he agrees to a minor league assignment. Welcome [...]
