Federal authorities have indicted Roger Clemens on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs. The 19-page indictment charges Clemens with three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury in connection with his February 2008 testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. I bet Mike Piazza smiled when he heard this.
Buster Olney of ESPN, writes about some of the changes general managers are mulling over for the future. Regarding the current Waiver System: Up until 4 p.m. on July 31, all teams can engage other clubs in trade talks. But from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31 — the deadline by which all players must be in place with an organization to be eligible for the postseason roster — all players must pass through waivers, and […]
SHUTOUT The “Ace” Johan Santana pitched a shutout yesterday afternoon against the Rockies in a 4-0 win, giving up 4 hits in his complete game effort. Santana has, most emphatically in this game at least, shown why he is the real closer for this team. Whenever things get off track, the ace is supposed to bring things back into alignment with a quality start. It’s funny how Big Pelf is expected to be a stopper. […]
Beyond popular belief, it was actually Justin Turner who was sent back to AAA-Buffalo instead of Josh Thole after the conclusion of last night’s game. With the return of Oliver Perez now a reality, and the news that Ollie will be joining the bullpen as a lefty specialist, Jerry Manuel had a difficult decision but actually did something right in keeping Thole over Turner. I am very happy with Manuel’s decision here as Josh Thole will help […]
Ruben Tejada had a closed door meeting today with the Mets, and apparently he couldn’t convince them to let him stay in the majors. He was optioned back to AAA-Buffalo as Luis Castillo has finished his rehab and has returned to the Mets. Tejada was optioned because the Mets want him to play everyday and he wouldn’t have had much playing time now with Castillo back. Jose Reyes has also returned and will be in […]
Peter Gammons of the MLB Network via Twitter is confirming Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will have surgery Thursday in New York to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. According to Comcast SportsNet, no timetable has been announced for his return, but typically a player needs six to eight weeks of recovery time before being ready for major league action. In his last 10 games Utley is hitting .395 (15-for-38) with 11 RBIs. He […]
The MLB All-Star game is starting to become nothing short of a high school popularity contest. The players elected to the game seem to be done so on name sake or the team they play for rather than performance. The worst part of it is that this game actually matters. I wouldn’t mind if the popularity contest created a fun exhibition game. However, the fact of the matter is, the managers are compromised between a […]
From the files of the strange, but true… According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Mets will not part with “B Level” prospect Ruben Tejada, even if it meant acquiring a top of the rotation starter like Houston Astros Ace, Roy Oswalt. The Mets are so high on rookie infielder Ruben Tejada, their fill-in second baseman for the injured Luis Castillo, that they’d be reluctant to include him in a trade for a pitcher such […]
For the past week, Luis Castillo, has been playing through a bone bruise on his left foot that has caused him to be out of the lineup of a few games. Well finally the injury turned out to be too much to play through and Castillo was placed on the 15 day disabled list. Alex Cora will be filling in as the every day second baseman until Castillo returns, however, the Mets will also be […]
