According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, baseball’s new collective bargaining agreement is chock full of big changes. Major League Baseball will begin testing for human growth hormone (HGH) beginning in February as part of the new collective bargaining agreement. MLB is the first of the four major sports to now employ blood testing of its players. MLB already conducts random testing for HGH in the minor leagues, a program it began last year. Commissioner Bud Selig […]
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the players and owners have come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement. The new deal is expected to be announced on Monday. Original Post 1:00 PM Over the past couple of weeks, I have heard some of the news that has surfaced from the MLB labor negotiations, but I didn’t hear many of the details. Thankfully, my roommate shed the light and told me exactly what is […]
Rickey Henderson said it the only way Rickey would on the day he stole his 939th base, passing Lou Brock for first on the All-time list: “Today, I’m the greatest of all time.” Mind you, Lou Brock was standing right next to Henderson when he proclaimed that over the PA system, but that’s besides the point. That statement showed the amount of confidence that Rickey had in his baseball abilities. He was the only player […]
Update by Joe D. Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo released a statement this morning after speaking with catcher Wilson Ramos, who was rescued from abductors last night in Venezuela: “I am happy to announce that I have spoken directly with Wilson and he assures me he is unharmed but eager to be reunited with his family,” Rizzo said. “He asked me to thank all who played a role in his rescue, and all those who kept […]
August 31, 1997: In front of a crowd of 55,707, Don Mattingly’s uniform number 23 is added to the list of retired numbers on the wall at Yankee Stadium’s Monument Park. Don Mattingly will probably be one of the greatest baseball players ever not to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Who is the first person to say that he won’t ever be inducted? The man, himself. I worked a charity dinner in January […]
Last night it was reported that the Phillies were said to be “making a strong push” to re-sign their closer Ryan Madson who is now a free agent. Jon Heyman of SI.com is now reporting that the two sides are closing in on a new contract, “they’re in serious discussions and it’s hard to imagine it not getting done soon.” A few minutes ago, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports confirmed the two sides are yucking it up, but also shared […]
Nolan Ryan impressed Major League Baseball fans in more ways than one. Was it because he was throwing a mid- 90s fastball while he was 46 years old? Yeah. Was it because of his 324 wins, 3.19 career ERA, and MLB record 5,714 strikeouts? Hell yeah. The most impressive part of Nolan Ryan’s MLB career was his seven no-hitters, another record. How hard is it to throw a no-hitter? Let’s put it into perspective by […]
According to the the Kansas City Royals, the team has acquired LHP Jonathan Sanchez and Ryan Verdugo from the San Francisco Giants for centerfielder Melky Cabrera. Sanchez, 28, is up for his third year of arbitration elibility (and final year of team control), and would have made something like $5-6MM through the process. Cabrera, 27, is up for his fourth year of arbitration elibility (he’s a Super Two), and could earn as much as $4MM this offseason. […]
The infamous name Scott Boras has always been attached to making teams reach far deeper into their pockets to acquire what seems to be some of baseball’s finest talents. Although after the ink dries on the contracts and franchises are financially bound to a particular player for an ungodly amount of years and money, in many cases, the performance on the field tends not to live up to the figure on the paycheck. Just look at his 100 million dollar men: Kevin Brown, Alex Rodriguez, Carlos Beltran, Barry […]
