After the severe lack of discipline that ran rampant throughout the clubhouse of Fenway Park, the Red Sox have now hired Bobby Valentine as their new skipper, replacing the passive Terry Francona. According to Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston, Valentine will be officially hired upon his return from Japan tomorrow. The beloved former Mets manager will bring a much needed leadership role to the squad and will not put up with any nonsense as seen throughout the month […]
Over the past week and a half, the Hot Stove has been slowly heating up; with a top heavy free agent class, it will take a while for the market to form for players like Pujols, Fielder, Reyes, and Wilson. As we move closer to the Winter Meetings, the market for these top tier free agents will become clearer. For the time being, there have been some deals finalized between some free agents and between […]
Former New York Times columnist Murray Chass, went ballistic on Bobby Valentine on his blog where he writes about an exchange he recently had with Red Sox owner Larry Lucchino and GM Ben Cherington. If the Red Sox decided to interview one or more other candidates, it could be a sign that they are not prepared to offer Valentine the job. “We haven’t made a decision yet,” Cherington said. “We’re going to be working on it. We’d […]
After a pitcher holds opposing teams hitless for nine innings, what is the biggest storyline that the media plays up in that pitcher’s next start? They ask that question that everyone thinks: can he do it again? Well, no one has done it since Johnny Vander Meer did so in June 1938 for the Cincinnati Reds. He had some bright spots in his 13-year MLB career, but not all of his stats are very eye-popping. […]
Rather than bore you with what I like or don’t like about the new labor agreement, let me share some astute thoughts from those better equipped to talk about the various provisions in the new labor agreement. My father always told me, “never take your car to a butcher for repairs or get legal advice from your plumber”. So as for me, I’m glad we have a new labor agreement and that there will be no interruption to baseball […]
What has been a hot-button debate throughout the baseball world the past few weeks has now been settled: Justin Verlander is the MVP of the American League. The 27-year old Tiger’s ace now has an MVP trophy to put on his mantle along with his 2011 AL Cy-Young, four All-Star selections and the 2006 Rookie of the Year Award. Quickly becoming one of baseballs elite pitchers, this honor has put him on a level of […]
Here’s an extremely disturbing link about the death of Seatle Mariners outfielder, Greg Halman. Rotterdam Police spokeswoman Patricia Wessels said police were called to a home in the port city in the early hours of the morning and found the 24-year-old Dutch player bleeding from a stab wound. The officers and ambulance paramedics were unable to resuscitate Halman. Wessels said the officers arrested Halman’s 22-year-old brother. She declined to give his name, in line with Dutch privacy rules. […]
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, baseball’s new collective bargaining agreement is chock full of big changes. Major League Baseball will begin testing for human growth hormone (HGH) beginning in February as part of the new collective bargaining agreement. MLB is the first of the four major sports to now employ blood testing of its players. MLB already conducts random testing for HGH in the minor leagues, a program it began last year. Commissioner Bud Selig […]
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the players and owners have come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement. The new deal is expected to be announced on Monday. Original Post 1:00 PM Over the past couple of weeks, I have heard some of the news that has surfaced from the MLB labor negotiations, but I didn’t hear many of the details. Thankfully, my roommate shed the light and told me exactly what is […]
