Cardinals Sign Felipe Lopez For $1.75MM
Jon Heyman is reporting via Twitter that that the Cardinals have signed second baseman Felipe Lopez for about $1.75 million dollars. The deal includes some incentive bonuses. Wow… That’s less than what the Mets signed Alex Cora for. Anyway you look at this it’s an absolute steal for the Cards. Lopez, 29, has lingered on the free agent market despite hitting .310 with nine home runs and 57 RBIs in 151 games split between the Arizona [...]

Done Deal! Mets Sign Rod Barajas
Update 4:00 PM Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports says the Mets have indeed signed free-agent Rod Barajas to a one-year, $1 million contract. Barajas can earn another $1 million in ‘easily-attainable incentives,’ according to Rosenthal. This morning I wrote that I believed Barajas would accept the Mets latest offer. I also wrote that it would signal the end of Omir Santos as a Met. He be released unless he agrees to a minor league assignment. Welcome [...]

Delgado Not Retiring, But May Sign Mid-Season
Former Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado isn’t retiring, but you may not find him on anybody’s roster come Opening Day. The first baseman’s agent, David Sloane, tells Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that Delgado will not be accepting any of the offers that are currently available to him, some of which are major league deals. “Delgado does not plan on retiring. Instead, he’ll wait for an opportunity to open up. When that happens, Carlos will [...]

Mets Add Another Catcher
In a press release, the Mets have announced the signing of catcher Shawn Riggans to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. Riggans had a rough 2009, hitting .143 in seven major league games with Tampa Bay, and posting just a .233/.298/.314 line in three minor league stops. Clearly, his right shoulder tendinitis played a role. As recently as 2007, he posted strong minor league numbers, but there is little reason to [...]

Japanese Reliever Bids Sayonara To Mets Offer
According to this report on MASN Sports, Japanese free agent Hisanori Takahashi has reportedly rejected deals from both the Mets and Orioles. The Mets had actually offered the reliever a Major League contract, but couldn’t reach an agreement on the dollars according to another report appearing on NPB Tracker. I’m a little surprised that the Mets continue to focus so much on the bullpen, especially after signing Chris Everts, Elmer Dessens, Ryota Igarashi, Kelvim Escobar and most recently [...]

Deja Vu: Mets Interested In Another Catcher
The New York Mets currently have four catchers on their 40-man roster with Chris Coste, Omir Santos, Henry Blanco, and Josh Thole, but apparently the Mets are still interested in yet another catcher. According to MetsBlog the Mets appear to be interested in former Toronto Blue Jays backstop Rod Barajas, who hit 19 home runs and had 71 RBIs last year. Barajas is, of course, the backup plan to Yorvit Torrealba, who ended up signing with the [...]

The Nationals have come to terms with free-agent second baseman Adam Kennedy, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. The left-handed-hitting Kennedy had a nice comeback season in 2009, hitting .289 with 11 home runs, 29 doubles and 63 RBIs in 129 games for the Athletics. The previous two years, he played in just a combined 202 games because of injuries. Kennedy, 34, is best known for his years with the Angels. In 2002, he was the American League [...]

Can The Mets Make A Play For Adrian Gonzalez?
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the San Diego Padres may not be able to sign their superstar first baseman, Adrian Gonzalez, to a long-term contract extension. Team owner Jeff Moorad sounded less than confident in a statement he made earlier today. “I think the fairest description of our point of view is that we continue to be committed to doing what’s best for the long-term interest of the organization,” Padres CEO Jeff Moorad said yesterday. “As a [...]
