Mets Choke Again, Lose 9-8 To The Yanks
I can’t believe what I just saw… I find it so hard to remain optimistic after watching the Mets lose in gut-wrenching fashion once again. With a huge victory only one out away, Luis Castillo drops the game-ending third out, allowing two Yankees runs to score and give them a walk-off victory in front of a packed house at the new Yankee Stadium. It was a god-awful way to go down and saying that they choked would [...]

NL East Report
Atlanta Braves: (2-2; -6.5) The Braves went 2-2 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and will open up an interleague series against the Baltimore Orioles. Tommy Hanson has the start tonight. Florida Marlins: (2-2; -8) The Marlins split their series with the St. Louis Cardinals. With this past week’s draft, they selected Chad James, a power pitcher from Oklahoma. James has a letter of intent with Oklahoma St., but will opt for the Marlins instead. The Marlins [...]

Mets Should Consider Dealing For Brad Penny
With the news that John Maine has been placed on the disabled list with what Omar Minaya calls “weakness and fatigue”, can we now seriously consider the need for another starting pitcher? Who knows when John Maine will come back. If we were to go by what he said last night it would leave us once again in yet another state of limbo. Maine said, “basically my shoulder is dead, so who knows when I’ll come [...]

Fernando Nieve Gets Start Saturday, Jon Switzer Called Up
The Mets have will replace John Maine with right-hander Fernando Nieve on Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Nieve will be opposed by Andy Pettitte. To replace Maine’s spot on the roster, the Mets promoted lefty Jon Switzer from Triple-A Buffalo. Maine was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 7, with right-shoulder weakness. Maine says he expects to miss only one or two starts, but where have we heard that before? I’m kind of surprised that Nelson Figueroa [...]

Ya Gotta Believe or Ya Gotta Bereave?
If you would have told me that the Mets would be in second place at the beginning of June, I probably would have believed you. If you had told me we’d be in second place without Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado and with Wilson Valdez and Fernando Martinez, I probably would have laughed in your face. If you would have said that 40-year-old Gary Sheffield would be batting clean-up, I wouldn’t have believed that either. [...]

This Is Why The Mets Acquired Tim Redding!
Back in January, the Mets were looking to acquire a big name pitcher to pair up with Johan Santana at the top of the rotation. Before missing out on Derek Lowe and settling for Oliver Perez, the Mets decided to shore up the back end of the rotation by signing Tim Redding to a one year deal worth $2.25 million. At the time, some fans did not understand why this signing took place and why [...]

Get Ready For Fan-demonium In The Bronx
Forget the players. Forget the standings. This is about the fans. It’s that time of year when New Yorkers come together – and get torn apart – over the love of the game and the love of their team. The Subway Series. Whether you are a Yankee fan or a Mets fan, you’re a proud New Yorker. But why is it that in this sport, unlike any of the other major sports, you just can’t [...]

6/11 Minor League Report! TEJADA, FAMILIA!
I apologize for the lateness of this report, we blew a fuse upstairs last night during the Mets game (followed by me blowing a fuse after Takahashi gave it up to Ibanez), and it just got fixed early this morning. So here you go. Also – starting this Sunday (the 14th), I will be taking my annual “Work on the MPH Draft Database” break (bi-annual this year), and David will be posting the nightly report [...]
