Around The Majors: Sheets, LaRoche, and More

Ben Sheets, who after refusing to throw for teams early in the offseason, will apparently put his repaired right arm on display for suitors. Sheets, 31, has drawn interest from many teams, though it has generally been tempered because of his exorbitant contract demands for a pitcher with injury problems. Sheets has asked for a $10-12 million deal for at least two years. While interest in him is there, those numbers have scared off most [...]

You Can’t Win ‘Em All: Pitcher/Batter Showdowns

Coming through in the clutch is a great measure of a baseball player’s value.  Who is and who isn’t clutch.  MMO readers have had numerous heated arguments on this subject.  Just remember – No player can be clutch all the time. Here are my top ten battles in which Mets pitchers or batters failed to come through in clutch. Mets Come Out On The Bottom #10- Jon Matlack vs. Bert Campaneris and Reggie Jackson on [...]

McGwire, McGriff, Delgado: Who Gets Into The Hall First?

With all the recent talk about Mark McGwire, I’ve decided to think about first basemen and the Hall of Fame.  The last MLB first baseman to be inducted into the Hall of Fame was Eddie Murray in 2003.  Therefore, when the Class of 2010 was announced last week and only Andre Dawson was voted in, it marked the seventh consecutive season in which no MLB first baseman was inducted.  (I mention MLB because two Negro [...]

Say It Aint So: The Worst Thing To Ever Happen To Our Game

Safe to say none of us were really shocked when Mark McGwire admitted using steroids. The court of public opinion had already found him guilty and on Monday Big Mac admitted what we all suspected and knew in our hearts for years. It does, however, give us reason to look at the long term effects on the game cause by PED’s. In my opinion, the impact and destructive nature of Steroids is one that will [...]

Latest Mets Hot Stove: O-Dog, Molina, Delgado

According to Bill Ladson who covers the Washington Nationals for MLB.com, second baseman Orlando Hudson is seeking a $9 million dollar contract for next season. The market for second baseman is very soft and in my opinion, Hudson will end up taking a one year deal just as he did last season. The Mets would still like to add the O-Dog, but probably not for more than $6 million in guaranteed money. Meanwhile, John Morosi of Fox [...]

Vindicated, Cooperstown, Car Salesmen and 61

Mark McGwire’s admission to steroid and PED use on Monday, has brought some hotly contested issues to the forefront. Some of these debates may never be settled, while others will be decided over time. I have my own opinions on all these issues. Jose Canseco – Mark McGwire was the lead character in the tell-all blockbuster that shockingly revealed the widespread and rampant use of steroids and PED’s in Major League Baseball. Initially, Canseco was labeled [...]

2010 Fantasy Match-Up: David Wright vs. Carl Crawford

There are several interesting player comparisons we can look at in the first few rounds of 2010 fantasy drafts. This season seems more muddled then normal, with very few clear-cut selections for fantasy owners to make due to injuries or epic struggles in 2009. One of the interesting debates right now comes in the second round, with David Wright (ADP 14.40) currently going a selection before Carl Crawford (ADP 15.17), on average. Given the type [...]

Mets And Pineiro Discussing Two Year $15 Million Contract

According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, the Mets are having in-depth talks with right hander Joel Pineiro about a contract that is worth around 2 years and $15 million. Pineiro reportedly received a much similar offer from the Washington Nationals earlier this off-season, but he may be leaning toward signing with a contender like the Mets. Last year the 31 year old right hander was 15-12 with an ERA of 3.49 in 32 starts. [...]

Mets Need To Pass On Delgado

This past week Carlos Delgado played baseball for the first time in months in Puerto Rico.  The Mets as we know are down on that beautful Island right now scouting him, deciding whether or not to offer him a contract for the 2010 season.  Reports coming out of Puerto Rico is Delgado doesn’t move well.  It seems that hip is still a problem and that is exactly why the Mets need to avoid bringing Carlos [...]
