Everyone Pray for Frankie
The unusual absence of our star closer had me concerned during the game. They spanned the bullpen with the cameras during the 9th inning as JJ Putz was on the mound, and Frankie was no where to be found. After the win, we waited for Jerry Manuel’s press conference because we knew someone would ask him where K-Rod was and why he didn’t come out to pitch. Manuel informed us K-Rod had back spasms during batting [...]

OMIR-ACLE!!! Mets Win 3-2
The Mets play game two of this inter-league series against the Boston Red Sox. Mets took game one despite the lack of defense behind Santana. “He’s making his pitches, and he’s executing his pitches, but we’re not executing on our end defensively,” manager Jerry Manuel said. “And to some degree, that has to be frustrating. But he battled.” “I don’t know at this point,” Jerry said. “I don’t know if I have choices.” Concerning Ramon Martinez [...]

Buffalo 4, Columbus 3 Jon Switzer allowed a run in the top of the 8th, blowing the save, but Javier Valentin’s solo shot in the bottom of the inning gave the Bisons the win. Elmer Dessens picked it up with 1.2 perfect innings in relief, he now has an eye popping 0.79 era for Buffalo. Nelson Figueroa started and was very good, allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings, but got a [...]

Can We Ditch Ramon Martinez Now?
I have seen all I can stand of Ramon Martinez filling in at shortstop. He may go down in Mets history as the worst shortstop ever to field the position. Four errors in three games? Even Fernando Tatis couldn’t possibly do any worse than Martinez, so why not have him fill in for Reyes so that we could take advantage of his bat? Ramon Martinez has just one hit in 16 at bats this season… [...]

Wanna Know How Good Santana Is?
The Mets defense keeps finding themselves in all sorts of predicaments when Santana is on the mound. Seven unearned runs as a result of 11 errors behind Johan. Usually you rely a team’s defense to bail the pitcher out of a jam. In Santana’s case, it’s the pitcher who bails his team out of their jams. That’s how good Santana is. The Mets keep putting Johan in harm’s way and he battles back every time to get himself, [...]

Ryan Church Out With Sore Hamstring, Day To Day
Rightfielder Ryan Church left Friday’s 5-3 victory over the Red Sox in the fourth inning with a sore right hamstring. Mets.com reports, Though Church said he should be ready to play again on Saturday, manager Jerry Manuel said that he is unlikely to do so. “My hammy’s been bugging me lately,” Church said. “It’s actually caused my torso on my right side to get out of whack. I just finally had enough.” Church, 30, was [...]

We Won Despite Ourselves
Every time I think Johan Santana cannot be any more brilliant or magic, he does something else that leaves me slack jawed all over again. And I’m not talking about his jawing with Youkilis or coming back to strike that turkey out after hitting him with what looked like a strike (Talk about Youkilis positioning himself like Ron Hunt)! I’m talking about the man’s indefatigable capacity to flick off the blunders of his infield, and [...]

“Put It In The Books” Mets win 5-3
After a well needed day of rest, the Mets look to bounce back after getting swept and get a win against the Boston Red Sox on the road. The Mets will send out their ace Johan Santana who is 5-2 with a 1.36 ERA. Boston will also bring out their ace as well, Daisuke Matsuzaka is 0-1 with a 12.79 ERA. Dice-K will return to the mound for his first start in five weeks after being on the disabled [...]

Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!
In honor of this weekend’s upcoming Indianapolis 500, I’d like to share my thoughts about speed. I seem to have noticed that the Mets are having a little bit of a problem with their power this season. Entering this weekend’s series against the Red Sox, the Mets were 15th in the National League in home runs. This is certainly unexpected for a team with such strong hitters as David Wright, Carlos Delgado and Carlos Beltran. [...]
