State of the Union
Normally I’d like to do these type blogs on the first or last of the month. However, with this being a holiday weekend, I have no clue where I’ll be on any given day or night. So let’s begin our Mets 2010: State of the Union. This month looked like it was going to be the month where everything fell apart. The Mets starting pitchers hadn’t won a game until May 17th versus Atlanta. Mike [...]

Takahashi Might Be Pitching Well, But…
Hisanori Takahashi stepped into the Mets rotation and has been spectacular in his two starts, shutting down two explosive offenses in the Yankees and Phillies. With six scoreless innings against the Yankees last Friday and six more against the Phillies on Wednesday, Takahashi lowered his ERA to 2.13, while upping his record to 4-1. The Japanese southpaw has been a Lefty Luthor to the Supermen wearing the jerseys of last year’s pennant winners. More importantly, [...]

The Dragon Slayers
My guess is that if you find yourself in the market for a motivational speaker you probably will not give very serious consideration to hiring Charlie Manuel. On the other hand, I am kind of hoping he holds another closed-door meeting with his (by now) totally shell-shocked crew when the Mets next come into the sleazy confines of CBP. Tonight we slayed the dragon. No, it’s not hyperbole. We handed the Filthies their heads just [...]

Mets Sweep Phillies After 3-0 Shutout For Fifth Straight Win
Mike Pelfrey blanked the Phillies for seven innings and Jose Reyes had another big game as the Mets win 3-0 and pulled off a stunning three-game sweep, shutting out the Phillies in all three games. Wow! Game Summary Mike Pelfrey pitched another beauty, and even though he didn’t have his best stuff, he got the groundball or the strikeout whenever he absolutely needed it. It was just another indication of how much Pelfrey has matured and finally is the big game pitcher the Mets [...]

Home Cookin’ Never Tasted So Good
A funny thing happened on the way to the Eastern Division title: The Mets discovered the kryptonite that may derail the Phillies’ season. And the green rock that renders all with super power to mush, lies smack underneath Citi Field. Suddenly the powerful home run loving Phills routinely squeeze out long fly balls at the Mets’ home park. Normally, they are four-baggers in the friendly confines of Citizens Bank Bandbox. Have there ever been two [...]

Fernando Nieve Will Get The Start On Saturday
Last night, after the Mets shutout the Phillies 5-0, Jerry Manuel told reporters during his post game that Fernando Nieve will get the start on Saturday against the Brewers. According to Manuel, Nieve earned the nod and said that he deserves his shot because of how well he has performed this season and also because he performed well as a starter last season. Raul Valdes was the other possibility, but in my opinion, Manuel is making the right [...]

Takahashi Phillin’ It, Mets Win Fourth Straight 5-0
Hisanori Takahashi had his second straight scoreless outing, and the Mets took the 2nd game of the series from the Phillies guaranteeing them a winning series at the least Game Notes Hisanori Takahashi went out in place of Jonathon Niese and put up another ridiculously effective outing, going 6 innings giving up 5 hits and striking out 6. Tak was dominating the Phillies all game, only allowing 1 extra base hit throughout the entire game. [...]
