Freddy Garcia Will Be A Big Sleeper This Season
If you were like me, you probably didn’t even bat an eyelash when you heard that the Mets signed starting pitcher Freddy Garcia. I just looked at it as another one of those classic Omar Minaya moves. You know the ones.. Minaya has become quite adept at resurrecting the careers of players who were left on the side of the road for dead. Some of the most recent examples include Jose Valentin, Damion Easley, Fernando Tatis, [...]

Steroids: Baseball’s Latest Pain In The Asterisk
What is it about our National Pastime that we love so much? Why does the heart of every fan become filled with hope in the springtime and then end with the harsh reality of winter? The reasons we love the game are diverse. But one thing that makes the grand ol’ game so magical is the numbers. If you don’t like stats, then this is not the game for you. Yes, there have been minor [...]

The Steroids Situation
In the midst of the stunning allegations that Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003, it had me thinking about the Mets and their own history with steroids. Kirk Radomski, former clubhouse man, was dealing steroids to players and was one of George Mitchell’s primary sources for the Mitchell Report. Radomski was caught and pleaded guilty to dealing anabolic steroids, along with several other charges. He received 5 year’s probation and an $18,575 fine [...]

A-Rod Tests Positive For Steroids
SI.com is reporting that Yankees third baseman tested positive for steroids in 2003, the same season he led the league in homeruns and won the MVP award. In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated. Rodriguez’s name appears on a list of 104 [...]

Can The Mets Afford To Carry Marlon Anderson?
In 2007, Marlon Anderson parlayed a .319 average in just 60 at-bats into a two year deal worth $2.2 million dollars. Not bad for a bench player who had hit .231 in the first half of that season before being cut by the Dodgers and signed from the scrap heap by Omar Minaya. Last season, Anderson slipped back into his old ways and batted .210 for the Mets in the first year of his big contract. [...]

Pedro Feliciano Agrees To New Contract
It looks like the Mets will not be going to any arbitration hearings after all. The lone hold-out Pedro Feliciano, has just agreed to a contract with the New York Mets, thus avoiding arbitration which was scheduled for next week. Feliciano signs a one-year deal for $1,612,500 which is a significant raise from last seasons $575,000. The Mets will be leaning heavily on Feliciano this season as the lone lefty in the bullpen. There were some [...]

Does Jon Heyman Get His Scoops From Scott Boras?
I came across an interesting article by Rich Lederer of Baseball Analysts. The article focuses on Jon Heyman mostly, and questions how he may have gotten the early jump on recent trades and signings involving Scott Boras clients. Jon Heyman has done it again. He broke another story on Friday when reporting that Jason Varitek had “reached a two-year agreement with the Red Sox.” In typical Heyman fashion, he wanted to make sure that everyone [...]
