Mets Need To Revamp Their Decision Making This Off Season

The Mets are a rudderless organization. How can I make this assertion? Take in account some recent developments: Carlos Delgado’s batting practice sessions have caught the fancy of the neutered GM, Omar Minaya, and he will consider re-signing a 37-year old DH with a balky hip. The centerfielder, Carlos Beltran was benched due to wet playing conditions last night, that sometimes occur in September, but he is lauded for making it back to the team [...]

Daniel Murphy To The Minors In 2010?

Jon Heyman of SI.com mentioned something over the weekend regarding Mets first baseman Daniel Murphy that caught my attention. While reporting that Carlos Delgado may still attempt to comeback this season, if only for just one or two weeks, he also throws this in, The Mets have thought about possibly bringing back Delgado on an incentive-laden deal, according to sources. While Daniel Murphy is showing signs of power in recent days, the Mets also haven’t ruled out [...]

Bring Nick Johnson to Citi Field

A few weeks back I wrote a column and I briefly mentioned the fact that I believe Nick Johnson would be a great fit for the Mets in 2010. I’m going to take that further today.  Assume for a second that everybody’s fantasy of acquiring Prince Fielder or Adrian Gonzalez is not going to happen. Even if it does happen, the price tag for both of them will be astronomical. To me that leaves the [...]

Keith Hernandez Loves Bobbleheads

Newsday’s Neil Best was fortunate enough to meet with Keith Hernandez recently. Keith was gracious enough to allow his camera crew to film him and his lovely wife Kai in their beautiful Long Island home in Sag Harbor. I absolutely loved all the vintage bobblehead dolls that you could see everywhere, as well as all the hardware he accumulated throughout his career including two miniature versions of the 1986 and 1982 World Series trophies. You [...]

The Case To Bring Back Carlos Delgado

At the start of the season it appeared that 2009 would most definitely be Carlos Delgado’s last season in the Big Apple. Well as we wrap of the final month of the season, Delgado appears to be as good as gone, especially after missing a majority of the season after undergoing hip surgery. However, the idea of bringing back Delgado to the Mets organization has to at least be considered. When looking at the upcoming [...]

Congratulations To The All-Time Hits Leader… Ed Kranepool

Derek Jeter broke the all-time hits record for the Yankees when he collected his 2,722nd hit in the third inning of Friday night’s game against the Orioles. In honor of his great achievement, I would like to congratulate Ed Kranepool for being the all-time hits leader for the Mets. (You didn’t think we were going to talk about the Yankees here, did you? After all, this is a METS site.) Ed Kranepool spent his entire career [...]

NL East Report

Atlanta Braves: (4-6; -8) The Atlanta Braves took two of three from the Houston Astros, and will head to St. Louis to play the Cardinals. Nate McLouth has hit three HR’s since returning from the disabled list. Top prospect Jason Heyward won the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year award. I do these columns twice a week, so I end up reading a lot about Brave prospects, especially Jay-Hey. If I were a [...]

Is Now The Time To Move Luis Castillo?

Yesterday, Jon Heyman of SI.com wrote on his Twitter account, Mets might try to trade Luis Castillo this winter and take a look at Orlando Hudson. When have we heard this before? I was hoping to read a follow-up from him today before I weighed in, but haven’t come across anything as of yet. I will update this post later today if necessary. What I was curious in knowing was if he heard this through [...]
