MMO Flashback: The All-Star Game… What Exactly Is The Point?
In this edition of MMO Flashback, Rob Silverman takes us back to 2009 when the All Star Game was held at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Hometown player Albert Pujols was the leading vote-getter that year followed by the Yankees’ Derek Jeter. David Wright and Carlos Beltran were both voted into the starting lineup, President Barack Obama threw out the first pitch, Sheryl Crow sang the National Anthem, and the American League won the game 4-3. Time flies. Enjoy [...]

So Who’s Our First Baseman In 2010?
It’s been such a trying season… You try and maintain some semblance of optimism, but at some point you become overwhelmed with the errors, running miscues, lack of fundamentals, etc. Everyone is blaming the injuries for this Mets debacle ever since Carlos Delgado first hit the disabled list. But what happens next season when Carlos Delgado packs his bags and goes back to the American League? We keep hearing about Dan Murphy and Nick Evans [...]

Livan Tanks, Dodgers Roll, Mets Keep Sinking
The Mets lost yet another series as the Dodgers pounded them 11-2 last night at Citi Field and took the series two games to one. The Mets have now lost eight of their last nine series… Livan Hernandez started for the Mets (if that’s what you want to call it), and lost his fourth straight decision only this one was his shortest and worst outing yet. Even before the Mets took their first licks in [...]

More Shame And Wrong Moves: Time To Fire Manuel
What was the score tonight? A hundred to two, or some such. I checked out in the fourth inning to garden and get to know my children, who’ve known only a Mets fan psycho for the past month or so. Being true to my Mets OCD-self, however, I had to keep checking back. At the back of my mind, there’s always the prayer that there’s going to be some crazy comeback. And then I realize, [...]

Roy Halladay, Alex Rios And The Mets
On Monday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that Blue Jays GM, J.P. Ricciardi is willing to listening to offers for the ace of their rotation, RHP Roy Halladay. Needless to say, before long the blogosphere was buzzing with all sorts of hypothetical trades. As one of our readers wrote, when someone like Halladay comes along you don’t think about it, you go out and get him. Ken Davidoff of Newsday, spoke to the Blue Jays GM and confirmed [...]

All Star Break Can’t Come Soon Enough.
The All Star Break can’t come soon enough for this Mets team. Unfortunately, Major League Baseball has something else in mind. In a landmark case, Major League Baseball has decided to postpone the All Star Game for one week. In an effort to boost viewership and to improve the experience of all in attendance, the decision was made in the late hours Thursday night by the Commissioner’s office. The staff at Metsmerized Online were able [...]

Fernando Martinez to DL
New York Mets outfielder and top prospect Fernando Martinez’s injury woes have sidelined him again. Martinez was placed on the Disabled List due to inflammation behind his right knee. Martinez had missed the last four games, and had not played since July 3rd against the Phillies. Infielder Argenis Reyes was called up to take Martinez’s spot on the roster. Martinez will likely retun to the minors after his rehab stint. By my count I think [...]

You Know… Pat Misch Isn’t Half Bad
You could say that much of the team is a mish-mash, but after getting out of a bases loaded jam last night against the Dodgers, left-handed reliever Pat Misch has stranded eight of his nine inherited runners since coming to the Mets. In addition, he has only given up one earned run. Misch was acquired off waivers from the San Francisco Giants, where he had compiled an ERA of 10.80 with 0 K’s. Since coming [...]

Will 2009 Be Omar Minaya’s Waterloo?
The Los Angeles Dodgers made themselves right at home last night; lounging out at the Ebbet’s Club, sharing stories of their glory days at the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, and then taking the field and bitch-slapping the Mets. The only thing missing were the Dodger Dogs, but they made do with a Nathan’s hot dog instead. Manny was being Manny, but more importantly Manuel was being Manuel, and Omar was being Omar. The Wilpons did a great job of house [...]

Too Late For The Mets To Sell High
About a month ago I broached the unpopular vision that if the Mets fell out of contention by the all-star break they should become sellers. Stop putting patches on the holes, but fill them permanently. According to another Mets site I was being “drawn and quartered,” by fellow bloggers. Anybody remember? Anyone want to get onboard with my radical, ahead of the curve thinking? Too late, no other major league team would want the Mets [...]
