Thole and Misch Fuel Mets 8-3 Win Over Rockies

Even after an impressive 8-3 win over the Rockies, don’t expect me to gloat as much over a win or agonize as much over a loss as I once did throughout the season. Wins and losses don’t mean as much anymore given the Mets current circumstances. Instead, I look for outward signs of hope for next season because the way I see it, the Mets are officially in 2010 mode. There were certainly a couple of [...]

Mile High Meltdown: Mets Fall To Rockies 5-2

Tim Redding’s late season renaissance continued, as he enjoyed his third consecutive solid outing.  However, his enjoyment of the game was short-lived, as party pooper Brian Stokes gave up three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the second time in five games, including a bases loaded two-run pinch-hit single to former Yankee Jason Giambi.  The latest Rockie Rally gave Colorado a 5-2 victory over the Mets Wednesday night in Denver. Before the [...]

Pelfrey Continues To Regress; Concern For 2010

As the Mets fell to the Rockies 8-3 last night, you couldn’t help but wonder about the makeup of Mike Pelfrey who continues to make the case that he may never be a number two or three pitcher. As Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez pointed out last night, Pelfrey is woefully short on guts and smarts when he’s on the mound. Pelfrey lasted just four innings, and allowed seven runs on six hits and five walks. The [...]

No Sweep For You! Mets Take Finale 4-1

When Johan Santana was disabled with a season-ending injury, the Mets knew his replacement would have some big shoes to fill.  Since replacing Santana in the rotation last week, Nelson Figueroa has done his best to pitch like the Mets ace.  Today, he pitched into the eighth inning and struck out a career-high 10 batters, as the Mets avoided being swept out of Chicago.  Figueroa’s dominant performance and the hitters’ ability to strike early and [...]

A Slam A Day Keeps The Wins Away; Mets Lose 11-4

If the Mets wanted to exact a measure of revenge against the Cubs for their role in keeping them out of the playoffs last season, they sure aren’t going about it the right way.  Fernando Tatis became the sixteenth Met to run his way into a crucial out at home plate when he ignored the stop sign by Razor Shines and Jake Fox hit a grand slam against losing pitcher Bobby Parnell as the Mets [...]

Bang! Zoom! Mets End Skid With 10-3 Win

The Mets put on an Amazin’ exhibition of power and offense for the two fans who showed up this afternoon at Land Shark Stadium to see the Mets beat the Marlins 10-3. Tim Redding started and allowed three homeruns, and yet somehow these Miracle Mets were able to pull off the upset victory and avoid a sweep in Miami. Redding was fortunate that all three bombs were of the solo variety. He ended up pitching [...]

Mets Get Reeled In By The Marlins 5-3

The Mets lost to the Florida Marlins Wednesday night by a score of 5-3. Mike Pelfrey took the loss going 5.2 innings giving up 5 runs on 11 hits. Josh Johnson got the win for the Fish going 6 innings and giving up 3 runs on 9 hits. Pelfrey has always had trouble with the Marlins in his career and tonight he continued to have difficulties. I am in the camp that believes Pelfrey threw [...]

No Johan, No Win; Marlins Defeat Mets 2-1

On a night when Johan Santana was supposed to take the mound, Nelson Figueroa stepped into his shoes.  The rest of the team paid tribute to Johan by doing what they do best in his starts; not scoring.  They played a close game, but ultimately fell a run short, dropping the opener of the nine-game road trip by the final score of 2-1. The game was scoreless until the Mets came to bat in the [...]

Mets Have Had Their “Phil”; Lose Again 6-2

The Mets played a Monday matinee at Citi Field today and Bobby Parnell pitched well…to every hitter not named Ryan Howard. Howard hit two home runs off Parnell to score the first five runs of the game for the Phillies.  That was all the offense they needed as they were able to defeat the Mets by the final score of 6-2.  The loss was the third straight for the Mets to the Phillies after winning [...]

Phils Throw TP At Citi Field; Mets Lose 9-7

Blogger’s disclaimer:  This recap will be full of sarcasm.  I attended today’s game expecting to see a spirited effort by the Mets against their former teammate, Pedro Martinez.  Instead I saw things on the field I never thought I’d see in person, things that pretty much sum up the 2009 season.  Buckle up.  The show’s about to start. On a day that was supposed to be remembered for Pedro Martinez’s return to Flushing as a [...]
