Mike Piazza A Bronx Bomber?
It has been been speculated that if Yankees catcher Jorge Posada's injury is much more serious than originally thought of, they may try and contact former Met great Mike Piazza for a tryout. While this would anger a great majority of loyal Met fans, I would actually be excited to see Mike Piazza playing baseball again, even if it's on the wrong side of town.
I have always been a fan of Mike Piazza long before he became a Met in 1998. He plays with class on the field, and has proven to be an even classier individual off the field. He has not yet officially announced his retirement yet, which indicates that he is still interested in playing at least one more season.
As New Yorkers, I think we owe it to him to give him that chance as fans, even if it is with the Yankees. We seemed to be forgiving with previous Met stars Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden and David Cone for reviving their careers with the Yankees. I don't think Piazza should be viewed any differently. No matter what happens, he will always be a Met in my heart. With all he has accomplished in his career, he deserves to go out with an big ovation and not forgotten. I would also like it if Piazza played at least one more season so he wouldn't have to go into the hall of fame with Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens when they are (and will be) inducted.
I would definitely like to hear your opinions regarding this issue if it were to become true. A lot of our staff writers list Piazza as their favorite all-time Met, and a lot of fans came out to cheer him on at Shea when he was a member of the San Diego Padres and Oakland A's. I am wondering what their views on this are? Either way, I think this is a interesting topic for debate.

I BELIEVE U ABSOLUTLY NEED MORE STAFFERS OVER 25 IF PIAZZA IS THEIR ALL TIME FAVORITE. ANY MATURE FAN WOULD TELL U HE'S GREATLY OVERSHADOWED BY SEAVER, WHO'S HEART THE METS BROKE TWICE.

Hey, if Piazza chooses to sign with the Yankees more power to him. As long as he wears a Mets cap to the Hall of Fame!

Hey It's Piazza's choice. If he wants to go to the Yankees then he should go. You made an excellent point with Darryl, Doc, and Cone. As a die hard Darryl fan, I was forced into liking the Yankees there for a little bit when they gave him the chance that they did. Piazza should not be viewed differently. He is and always will be a great all time Met. It's not like the Mets are in the running to get him, so I think it would be nice to see him back in NY. I just like him. As you say in the blog, he has always played with class and he is a model ballplayer. I personally don't see a problem with it. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that would disagree though!!!!!

i guess i'll be the first one to say that i don't want him to play for the other borough. i'm tired of seeing my favorite players sign with that team. can you imagine seeing the dark blue yankees t-shirts with number 31 and piazza on the back? i gotta be honest...that would be terrible.

I agree with nate. I'm sick of it too, especially when they go over there and pitch no-hitters or have huge 3-homer games!!!

Mike Piazza is the reason I started watching baseball. I think it would totally suck if he went to the Yankees. Why can't we have him back? He should come back to us where he belongs.

I love Mikey no matter who he plays for and in my mind, he'll always be a Met, regardless of who he's playing for at the time. Best of luck to him!!

won't happen
the injury to posada isn't as bad as they think and they are perfectly happy w/ their backup catcher right now

Lets think about the reality of this. Piazza hasn't played in the catching position in a couple of years - why would a team already suffering call up a someone to catch, that can't anymore? He was also hurt alot last year so even his DH'ing was minimal.
It hurts to say, but its time to retire, if he hasn't already made it official.
I agree also with METS62FAN, he was great for the Mets but there were many great before him too, and I don't just mean in 1986.

I don't think Clemens and Bonds are first-ballot Hall of Famers... not after the steroids issues that have been raised. Though, I think they're Hall of Famers, I just think they'll have to wait a bit before getting in.

i will root for him no matter what team he is on, and any met fan should.

Ok I guess the injury to Posada wasn't as serious as originally thought of. I would still like to see Piazza play one more season though regardless of his whereabouts. I know Clemens and Bonds will be first ballot hall of famers because of their accomplishments before their alleged steroid use. I hope I am wrong and I hope they don't get in at all. If there was a hall of infamy, then that's where they belong.
