Mets Talking To Red Sox About Coco Crisp
According to WFAN's Ed Coleman, the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox have discussed a Coco Crisp for Angel Pagan deal.
Crisp, who has become expendable with Jacoby Ellsbury slated as the Red Sox everyday center fielder, hit .268 with 6 homers and 60 RBI's and 28 SB's in 526 at-bats in 2007. His best season came in 2005 with the Cleveland Indians when he hit .300 with 16 homers and 69 RBI's.
I'm not sure why the Mets would want to make this trade to be honest. Crisp will earn $4.75 million in 2008 and $5.75 million in 2009. I don't think the Mets need to bring in Crisp, I would rather see them bring in a OF/1B type like Xavier Nady, Aubrey Huff, Reed Johnson, or perhaps a Brandon Inge or Jason Bay if possible.
UPDATE:
Officials from both the Mets and the Red Sox have denied this rumor and say that there is no truth to it. Whew...

That deal makes no sense, they are both similar players. Its like trading Pagan for himself, while adding to the payroll. Players that make more sense would be Shelley Duncan, Juan Rivera, Xavier Nady or a hand full of others.

If you think like Willie, the deal makes a lot of sense. He loves the veteran players. Someone like Nady does make more sense, but you can bet the the Pirates want to rob the Mets for giving Nady up. Hence the guy whose name sounds like breakfast cereal.

Not for nothin', but it aint Willie making these moves, it's Omar. Omar must have a man-crush on Coco, that's the only reason why I would see trading for him with Angel Pagan. You are right, it's like trading Angel with himself. In any case, I wonder if there's underlying meaning here - like Alou aint coming back. Or will be out longer than May or June.

on the surface it makes no sense...
but who holds more value on the market??? Crisp is the commodity, pagan is hot. We are selling high on a career minor-leaguer for a guy who has done it in the pro's. its a salary dump for the sox.
for the Mets...you get a guy who can play everyday[unlike pagan/endy] and is a switch hitter that plays stellar defense.
He holds value.
He may be flipped immedietly or by midseason for another potential need. it looks like a strategic move since its only pagan, who couldnt be dealt for a bag of balls in another situation.
This is something to keep an eye on

Crisp also has a groin injury.

Huff is a lefty and Bay would cost us a lot. I'd also prefer Shannon Stewart over Reed Johnson.

This is a bogus rumor...I just read that Theo Epstein said that he has not been in any contact with the Mets.
I'd also like to see Shannon Stewart as a Met, assuming that he'd be able to play some 1B this year

This all means Omar knows something we all dont about Alou :(. Trust me somethings up if he wants to trade a bench player for a starting outfielder. Plus Beltrans days are numbered in CF with his bad knees. I give Beltran maybe 1-2 more yrs in CF. Not good news either way you look at it.
