Pre Game: Marlins Vs. Mets - Open Threads All Weekend!
The Mets Have Their Backs Against The Wall
OPEN THREADS ALL WEEKEND LONG TO SUPPORT OUR TEAM!
New York (87-71) vs. Florida (69-90), Friday, 7:10 p.m. ET
The Pitching Matchup
The Lineup
Commentary
Oliver Perez is the only pitcher on the Mets who has stepped up in September. Ollie has won his last three starts and even pitched 8 solid inning in his last start against these same Marlins.
Lately you can almost tell if we are going to win or lose just by seeing how Jose Reyes performs. If you see him taking the first pitch for a strike, and swinging with an uppercut tonight, it just might be the end of the road for the Mets...
Throw all the damn books and statistics and records out the damned window! What's passed is passed, and we must focus on the here and now. We can debate all the issues after the season. Right now we have to stay true to our team. Nothing Else Matters!
Todays Mets Quotes
"I think we’re due to have something special happen for us…I’m expecting something good to happen." - Pedro Martinez
“We’re even with three left. So, there’s two choices: Roll over, and start making vacation plans, or battle like hell and win this thing. We still feel like this is our division, and nobody in here is going to quit. As far as I’m concerned, I want to play in the post-season, and every one in here wants to play in the post-season, and if we’re going to go down, we’re going down with a fight.” - David Wright
Mets Merized Game Notes
I've been asked by many to take the Magic Number down. I'm not taking nothing down until I absolutely have to. This season is not over, and the Mets playoff hopes are not over. It will still take a combinations of 4 Mets wins and Phillies losses to clinch this division. That Magic Number will stay there as a testament to the love and support we have for the entire Mets team and organization.
We are gonna win this thing! That's what Willie said last night, and that's what I want all of you to get into your heads. We are not giving up without a fight. We are still in first place and we control our own destiny. Stand up straight and stop slouching. Get your heads in the game and your hearts in the right place. Stay True To The Orange And Blue...
Enjoy the game!

Comments
John Delcos says that the guys in the clubhouse looked tense and very quiet and that Paul Lo Duca was ticked off at the media.
I will be tuning in and out throughout the game tonight and look forward to some great chat and an amazing Mets win!

Nice bounceback inning for Ollie!

YEAY!!!!
Posted by: Liz | September 28, 2007 7:49 PM
Here we go guys!
Posted by: Ryan | September 28, 2007 7:49 PM
The only way I can see us getting the division back is by winning tonight and the Phillies losing, that would get us off this streak and give us back some confidence.
Shifting the pressure back onto the Phillies. I dont care how we do it, just get the W boys! I dont want to have to listen to another Willie interview saying everything is going to be alright etc.
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 7:49 PM
TY Marlins defense!
Posted by: Carl | September 28, 2007 7:50 PM
Way to go Ollie, good bounce back inning and now giving the team some offence!!
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 7:51 PM
Jacob, you hit the nail on the head. The Mets need their confidence back and with that will come their swagger. A win for the Mets and a loss for the Phils would do that.
Posted by: Joe D | September 28, 2007 7:52 PM
I hate to go negative at a time like this, but I've completely lost all my confidence in Jose Reyes.
Posted by: Tim | September 28, 2007 7:53 PM
Tim, all Mets fans are feeling varying degrees of disappointment in Reyes. So dont feel bad.
Posted by: Carl | September 28, 2007 7:55 PM
we have to attack, and for some reason we're not!!!
Posted by: Tim | September 28, 2007 7:57 PM
I think we have felt disappointment with alot of Mets this year though, not just Jose... Wright at the start of the year, Delgado for the majority of the year, unfortunately it's Reyes in a slump now....and I've never seen the Mets look so bad, he is the spark plug
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 7:57 PM
this inning isnt looking good
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 7:58 PM
oh david!
Posted by: Liz | September 28, 2007 8:01 PM
:-(
Posted by: Liz | September 28, 2007 8:03 PM
..and he's shooting himself in the foot.
Posted by: Ryan | September 28, 2007 8:05 PM
We can't afford to hand them runs..
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 8:05 PM
I cant take this!!
Posted by: Tim | September 28, 2007 8:06 PM
He can't be serious? This is a joke
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 8:07 PM
how many times are we just going to hand the other team runs?
Wright's mental mistake and perez hitting batters....
COME ON BOYS LETS DO IT!
Posted by: Travis | September 28, 2007 8:09 PM
They should turn the out of town scoreboard off, then maybe we will realise we have to win things on our own for once, without the help of others
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 8:10 PM
everytime someone makes an error Perez always seems to lose it!
Posted by: Carl | September 28, 2007 8:10 PM
That's a good idea jacob...
We really need a huge inning right here!
Posted by: Joe D | September 28, 2007 8:13 PM

Posted by: Milo | September 28, 2007 8:24 PM
Hi Milo, I have no idea,
Posted by: Joe D | September 28, 2007 8:25 PM
This guy Ramirez is becoming a thorn in the Mets back.
Posted by: Liz | September 28, 2007 8:27 PM
CB Buckner is the worst umpire in the league. That that he blew that call, but in a big game he's not the guy I want at first base
Posted by: Milo | September 28, 2007 8:27 PM
why arent our guys playing crisp defense?????? That's the least they should do!!
Posted by: Tim | September 28, 2007 8:29 PM
gotta get hermida right here
Posted by: Milo | September 28, 2007 8:29 PM

Posted by: Liz | September 28, 2007 8:32 PM
there are no words...
Posted by: Tim | September 28, 2007 8:35 PM
WTF? I understand the guys on SNY work for the Mets but call it like it is! Reyes should of had that, it wasn't hit that hardly, it looked like he took a crap jump on it, then went under his glove. That wasn't a nice effort...
Posted by: Ken Lagrahm | September 28, 2007 8:37 PM
Hang in there everyone, there's plenty of game left!
Posted by: Joe D | September 28, 2007 8:39 PM
Reyes should have had that. In April it would have been an out!
Posted by: Carl | September 28, 2007 8:40 PM
Is anyone else yakking in their toilet yet? This is unreal.
Posted by: Kaz | September 28, 2007 8:41 PM
Think we could use Marlon Anderson here? Damn.
Posted by: Fred | September 28, 2007 8:41 PM
what the hell is Newhan doing touching a baseball bat!!!!!!
Posted by: Carl | September 28, 2007 8:42 PM
Why was the bunt taken off?
Posted by: Fred | September 28, 2007 8:43 PM
why waste a bullpen pitcher and put in the crappy david newhan? We just wasted 2 players in the matter of 5 minutes.
Sosa should have at least batted for himself if not gone out for the 5th
Posted by: Travis | September 28, 2007 8:43 PM
Ok so why let a batter who is hitting 192 try to hit instead of sticking with a bunt!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Joey | September 28, 2007 8:43 PM
Gee, how amazing. Throw a good pitcher against the Nats and they revert to the second division team they are. Against us, they looked like Murderer's Row. Pathetic.
Posted by: Kaz | September 28, 2007 8:43 PM
What did Kim throw like 8 pitches in that inning?? jeez...
Posted by: Tim | September 28, 2007 8:44 PM
Does somebody still wanna say willie is a good coach now when every out literally counts. I'm speechless.
Posted by: Joey | September 28, 2007 8:45 PM
go for the WC, this division is lost
Posted by: nick | September 28, 2007 8:46 PM
what a line by Ollie:
3.2, 6 runs, 3 HBP, utter SHIT
i cant believe this team
Posted by: nick | September 28, 2007 8:47 PM
We have 5 innings to score 3 runs. Dear God better score or tonight's recap will be horrible.
Posted by: Ryan | September 28, 2007 8:48 PM
Willie Randolph is brain dead at times.
Posted by: Carl | September 28, 2007 8:49 PM
does anybody have a padres uniform so we can all cheer against the phillies in the first round?
Posted by: dr disappointment | September 28, 2007 8:49 PM
so frustrating!! :-(
Posted by: Liz | September 28, 2007 8:52 PM
when EL DUQUE is giving up dingers to hitters like that, we really are screwed.
anyone know how to tie a noose?
Posted by: nick | September 28, 2007 8:52 PM
Colapses like these can set a franchise back for years..
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 8:52 PM
look at those Phillie fans, they have LIFE! the boys at Shea are acting like its a funeral!
i dont believe this team/fans!
Posted by: nick | September 28, 2007 8:53 PM
Where is our Cole Hamels or Justin Verlander or Philip Hughes?
Posted by: Steve | September 28, 2007 8:54 PM
If the Phils blew a 7 game lead, I guarantee you those fans wouldn't be waving any towels. If you're a fan of the team making the comeback instead of the collapse, of course you're going to be excited.
Posted by: Fred | September 28, 2007 8:55 PM
If we don't come back in this game, welcome back to 2004 ladies and gents.
Posted by: Joey | September 28, 2007 8:56 PM
Mets are scoring 4 this inning.
Posted by: Charlie | September 28, 2007 8:57 PM
Phillies load the bases, 1 out
Posted by: Jacob | September 28, 2007 9:03 PM
HERE IS WILLIES NEW MAIN THEM
Kiss the season goodbye,
The sweetness and the sorrow.
Wish the Phils, the same to you.
But I can't regret
What moves I made to lose this season.
Look my eyes are dry.
1st place was ours to borrow.
It's as if we always knew,
And I won't forget what I did to lose,
What I did for the fans is.
Gone,
The season is never gone.
As we travel on,
Losing what we'll remember.
Kiss season goodbye,
And point me t'ward the Bronx.
I did what I had to do.
Won't forget, can't regret
What I did for
losing

LET ME CORRECT SOME ERRORS ON THIS SONG!!
HERE IS WILLIES NEW MAIN THEME
Kiss the season goodbye,
The sweetness and the sorrow.
Wish the Phils LUCK, the same to you.
But I can’t regret
What moves I made to lose this season.
Look my eyes are dry.
1st place was ours to borrow.
It’s as if we always knew,
And I won’t forget what I did to lose,
What I did for the fans is.
Gone,
The season is never gone.
As we travel on,
Losing what we’ll remember.
Kiss season goodbye,
And point me t’ward the Bronx.
I did what I had to do.
Won’t forget, can’t regret
What I did for
losing

FROM THE CHORUS LINE
WHAT I DID FOR LOVE
ITS A SONG
ITS NOW CALLED WHAT WILLIE DID FOR LOSING
Posted by: Rob | September 28, 2007 9:14 PM
If we get out of this inning with no runs, we will win this game!
Posted by: Carl | September 28, 2007 9:15 PM
If Delgado gets a homerun to leadoff I'll take back all the bad things I said about him this year.
Posted by: Tim | September 28, 2007 9:21 PM
showeinweissssssss however u spell it is our best pitcher :(
Posted by: ............. | September 28, 2007 9:21 PM
Ok, lets just assume that the Phillies will never lose again for the rest of the season...
Posted by: Steve | September 28, 2007 9:26 PM
This is getting ridiculous! What happened to this team!!
Posted by: Liz | September 28, 2007 9:38 PM
What a change from last year
Posted by: .............scott | September 28, 2007 9:45 PM
AT THIS POINT I WOULD RATHER BE WATCH FISHING OR GOLF ON ESPN. WATCHING THIS TEAM RIGHT NOW IS SO BORING AND THEY ARE TRULY SHOWING THEIR FANS THEY DO NOT CARE IF THEY WIN OR LOSE. THEY HAVE NO DRIVE, NO INTENSITY AND NO SENSE OF URGENCY TO WIN NOW.
THEY ARE AS BORING AS THEIR MANAGER AND PITCHING COACH. I WANNA RIP THAT SODUKO GAME OUT OF PETERSON’S HAND AND LIGHT SOME FIRE UNDER WILLIES ASS TO MAKE HIM MOVE AND SHOW SOME EMOTION.
Posted by: Rob | September 28, 2007 9:47 PM
"Ok, lets just assume that the Phillies will never lose again for the rest of the season..."
They shouldn't lose! They are playing an awful team, just the like the Mets are playing an awful team and shouldn't lose these last 3.
Posted by: Ken Lagrahm | September 28, 2007 9:51 PM
I always just assume that Reyes won't get on base now
Posted by: Milo | September 28, 2007 9:53 PM
Jose Reyes is the least productive player on the Mets now. BAR NONE
Posted by: Milo | September 28, 2007 9:55 PM
:)

Posted by: .............scott | September 28, 2007 10:21 PM
Absolutely astonishing
Posted by: Milo | September 28, 2007 10:51 PM
The Mets need a new batting order. If the Mets had good management the above issue would have been corrected a while ago. Because a person was a good ballplayer a long time ago, does not mean he can manage a team. Green is a contistant ball player and to pull him, and replace Green with a rookie? Hello, wake up.
