What Will It Take?
There are two people on the planet who are infallable- the Pope and Guillermo Mota. It seems that Mota can really do no wrong. Willie Randolph has force fed Guillermo Mota to the Mets faithful this season to no avail. It seems that whenever Mota comes into a game you can hear Willie Randolph telling us, "LETS SEE IF HE CAN GET THROUGH A COUPLE OF INNINGS." It worked against the Dodgers when the Mets were already losing the game in a no pressure situation. But tonight was very different.
Guillermo Mota had already pitched a scoreless frame before trotting his steroid-free body out to the mound for the 10th inning. Shane Victorino greeted him with a single up the middle, and then after a brief battle with Ryan Howard, a baseball was flying into the left field stands, 4-2 game over. Mota had blown yet ANOTHER game this season. The Phillies are now just 4 games behind the Mets. Besides Mota not knowing how to pitch (A fastball with a 1-2 count), Willie Randolph also apparentley forgot how to manage. Ryan Howard up, tired Guillermo Mota on the mound, rested Scott Schoeneweis in the bullpen, OH WELL LETS JUST SEE HOW THINGS SHAKE OUT. As if Mota would REALLY RARE BACK AND FIRE A FASTBALL RIGHT BY RYAN HOWARD FOR STRIKE THREE!! Yeah!!! Randolph showed an indifference to the team and Mets fans by keeping Mota in the game to face Howard in an important game. Its so easy to make game decisions from behind a keyboard but any one of us could have better managed this game. Accusing Willie Randolph of terrible managing tonight would be like backseat driving for Ray Charles. Mota had NO business being in the game by the 10th inning. I really have nothing else to say at this point, but please, please, please Omar Minaya get rid of Guillermo Mota. Designate him for assignment, place him on waivers, outright release him, do something to rid this team of his presence. He is losing games for us left and right. If he can't do his job for this team, THEN GET RID OF HIM. GET RID OF GUILLERMO MOTA.

Mota or no Mota, 4 runs in 2 nights in that ballpark, against those pitchers is disgraceful. 6-8 in the lineup are holes, and unless Reyes/Wright wake up, this team may very well blow this lead.

FUCKIN GET RID OF MOTA. HE COULD NOT SUCK ANYMORE. HES WILLIES MAIN MAN WITH A 6.32 ERA WHAT KINDA CRAP IS THAT!?!?!?! OMAR GET RID OF THIS GUY HES USELESS BRING BACK JOE SMITH
Posted by: Charlie | August 28, 2007 10:47 PM
why get rid of him??
hes a one-inning pitcher.
he did fine in his first inning tonight.
again, hes a one-innings pitcher. the only time he has failed miserably is when he pitches more than one inning. get the point willie!!

right on the money philamet. jose and david have crawled into a ball every big game this season its funny hopw daivid has been hot lately when we play pitsburg, washington, and LA but as soon as the phils or braves roll around. 0-9 and 0-7.....

Everytime Glavine leaves with a lead He is the one guy who blows it. I think Mota is hurting the team.Time to go,
We need a fiery young pitcher,

Mota has been doing well lately when he pitches only 1 inning. He gets lit up when he works over 1 inning, and that is the fault of Randolph! Since Willie has been the Mets manager he has made terrible bullpen decisions, and it was excusable in '05, but we are now in the 3rd year of this. If the Mets do not at least reach the World Series, and bullpen management turns out to be a key reason they don't then, sadly, Willie must be replaced with a manager who knows what he's doing.

The game should have never gotten to Mota. We cannot get a key base hit with 2 outs. Reyes gets out after swining at the first pitch the majority of the time tonight.
Feliciano gives up a home run to Rollins then walks Burrell. Then Lo Duca throws the ball into the outfield to let the runner go to 3rd. Then they score on a infield hit, that if Lo Duca doesn't throw the ball into the outfield the runner doesn't score.
Mota is horrible, but he shouldn't get all the blame for the loss. The guy can only pitch one good inning and that was the 9th
Posted by: jr | August 28, 2007 11:21 PM
I totally disagree. Mota has never pitched well.
He has an ERA over 6.00 in the first half and he has an ERA over 7.00 in the second half.
When did he pitch well exactly???
He is a disgrace, a dog, and an embarassment to the team.
He is a loser! He was a loser in Cleveland, he was a loser when we got him, and he's still a loser. He is a disgrace to the uniform.
He is ranked second to last in ERA in the NL, when exactly was this guy good this year???
HE'S A LOSER!!!!!

All of you make no sense. Mota's last outing everyone was cheering him on. Now everyone wants him kicked off the team. He threw a bad pitching to a great hitter. Thats the end of it. The Mets are gonna put this game in their back pocket and try to win the next two games in the series.

Expect for Wagner the whole mets bullpen sucks.

MetsSuck shut up I am tired of you running your mouth I really hope the red sox make it to the world series because the Mets will be waiting for them and then beat them.
Posted by: Alec | August 28, 2007 11:37 PM
Darling said during Mota's outing that Pedro called him up last week and told him to make a longer stride when pitching. And since that he hasn't gave up so much as a base runner. Apparently he forgot what Pedro told him.
Eventually someone is gonna hit a HR in that park, Howard just got the mediocre fastball to do it.
Posted by: NYsportsGUY | August 28, 2007 11:38 PM
All right Alec the red sox will be waiting only if the Mets make it at the rate they r going.

like i said before in big innings he sucks he needs to get a life and move the fuck on from the mets ... we should of kept chad bradford but mother fucking omar didnt do that hes a fucking prick im sorry to all u mets fan i hate willie one inning is enough for that piece of shit what do u think he is sosa hileman if i see him come on in another spot im going to kill my self he cant get it done i dont know what to say except we keep on doing these fucked up moves say good bye to the play offs cause after the phils comes alanta and from there u know i dunno liek i said i dont want to give up on them but its kinda hard not to when you put mota out there u understand met fans

Willie should have been happy with the scoreless 9th from Mota and move on to Schoeneweis to handle Howard. Leaving Mota in was just playing with fire.
And any time Reyes doesn't want to swing at the first pitch is OK by me. He and Wright seem to be pressing in these big games.
Posted by: Fred | August 29, 2007 12:25 AM
I agree with y'all that tonights game should have been a "W" for Glavine. He threw a great game, but the bullpen didn't help much.
Something else that didn't help was us getting only 6 hits, 2 each by Alou, Delgado and Glavine. We need the rest of the lineup to produce to beat the phillies and the braves.

Bring up Humber/Pelfrey!!!! They cant be any worse than what is out there now. The Yanks are doing it with Jaba why cant the Mets? Jaba is a future starter as well. It is getting rediculous. Just in the past 4-5 series, the Mets Pen has blown about 7-8 games. The NL east would be out of reach right now if the pen was better.

Unbelievable! Hey Willie, here’s an idea. Pitch Schoenweiss, Feliciano and Heilman for the first three innings and give the ball to a starting pitcher afterwards!!!!!!!!!
The game will definitely be more interesting then!

Pea Brain Willie HAS TO GO!!!
I feel he does no planning and strategic planning before the game. He needs to Sit Reyes down and explain to him about not hitting the first pitch. It's not only Willie that has to go he needs to take his whole coaching staff with him. Rick ( Regis Philbin Look a like) Peterson needs to go. Stop playing Seduko in the dugout and let these guys pitch instead of over analyzing every pitch. The coaches are too old for this team. They need young full of energy coaches. They need a manager that will set fire under their butts and argue with umps if they are wrong. Have not seen Pea Brain do this, except to walk back to the dugout with his head between his legs. Stand up for your GUY!!! and Fight!!! OMAR IS ANOTHER WON. HEY JACKASS Bannister won another on thats 11 wins and where is your Native Brother Burgos hurt and will not be back until 2009. Great way to waste a spot on the 40 man roster and probably get a raise too. OMAR NEEDS TO GO, HE HAS SCREWED UP THE BULLPEN AND POOR TRADES THIS YEAR. GO BACK TO DR AND BE A GM DURING WINTER BALL... adios

DOES OMAR HAVE BALLLS??
If he was a man and did he would call up Eddie Kunz their first pick in the draft this year. He already pitched in 4 yrs of college and now with the Cyclones. MLB has no idea what he throws, put him in the bullpen and let him pitch, can he do any worse then the shit out there now!!!!
Posted by: Rob | August 29, 2007 8:35 AM
Hey Rob, I was recently at a Cyclones game where Kunz notched his first save. He has very good stuff and reminded me, physically, of a Jonathan Broxton type of pitcher. His velocity isn't quite there yet, he was hovering around 92, 93, but I agree, I'd rather see a double A rookie get MLB experience then watch Mota falter time after time
Posted by: Milo | August 29, 2007 2:41 PM
I don't think we need to get rid of mota.... i think we need to be smarter when using him. If the game is close and we have no choice but to put him in for an inning and he does well, keep it at that. There is no need to keep him in for another inning! He is not the same Mota as last year. I don't know if it was the steroids, maybe it was the time off from the league has was forced to take, or if it's mental, but right now Mota is not a 2 inning guy!
Posted by: Travis | August 29, 2007 3:29 PM
And on a yankee note... Jabe Chamberlain will most likely not be a starting pitcher. They are grooming him to take Rivera's spot. But that's nothign to worry about. Last night was his first real pressure situation and eventually being 21 in the league pitching one game a week will get to him
Posted by: Travis | August 29, 2007 3:32 PM
For those of you who feel that the Mets should keep Mota - here's a buck, purchase a clue.
There is no stability or trust in Mota - he should not even be in MLB - okay maybe with the Royals.
We're supposed to be a championship pursuing team, how can we do that with an inconsistent player such as Mota?
