Can The Mets Recover, Or Will Atlanta Deliver The Fatal Blow?
In a series where taking a split would have been excusable, a sweep of the Mets has turned into the inexcusable. Whatever the Mets did in the series against the Phillies was wrong and whatever the Phils did was right. That is just how it went these past four games. After riding a high over the last couple of weeks, that high after four days has become the low point. It is not going to get any easier when they face a team that they have not won a series against all season. On top of all that, the Amazins are going to have a struggling John Maine on the hill facing off against Tim Hudson.
The focus now has to head to Atlanta or else another city is going to have their brooms out as well. The positive is the schedule since the final two weeks of the season will be against both the Marlins and the Nationals, while the Phils and Braves face off in Philadelphia for three games. Before that is another huge week which again features series against both the Braves and Phillies, this time at Shea. I suggest we all go out there that week and support our team the way the Phillies fans came out and supported their club. There is only so much we can do as fans though. If this series didn’t wake this team up then I don’t know what will.
There does not seem to be any equilibrium with this team, like they are not functioning as a whole. When the starters pitch well and deep into games, the offense can not buy a run. When the offense wakes up and puts up 8-10 runs then the starters can not last more than 3-5 innings. The bullpen just does not have it right now and I am not sure if they are ever going to have it this year. Yes, Billy Wagner has had a great season till now but I would much rather have him have a bad April than a bad August or September. Fans are more forgiving to players that struggle early than the ones that struggle later in the season - just look at David Wright and how he turned around offensively. There are just too many of these meltdowns and I don’t know how much leeway this team could afford to have before possibly losing their NL East lead.
The 2007 Mets are going to drive all their fans crazy this season… as if they haven’t already. However, throughout this whole seesaw ride, we all still bleed the blue and orange. Let’s go Mets.

It was a good series. But Philly deserved every one of those games.

I'm curious to see how the Mets are going to play in Atlanta after that phillies series. They are either going to come out on fire, or look lost and scared. Lets see what happens!
