The Smart Money Says Bet On The Mets
We have all been there one time or another. We as Met fans feel obligated to defend our fanhood at all times. To justify our passion for a team that historically, hasn’t always been the easiest to root for at times. If you’re like me, you get bombarded by the typical Yankee fan every so often.
For some of you it may be an annoying sibling that isn’t a big baseball fan but just likes the Yankees because YOU like the Mets. For others it might be a boss whose tyranny crosses the line when after being ordered around you have to hear about A-Rod hitting his 30 gazillionth home run or how Jeter is a “great leader”. I know that many of you have heard your parents preach about Mickey Mantles 634 foot crank or Joe DiMaggio’s long lost secret diary.
I get good natured ribbings after each horrific loss, every time Jose gets caught stealing, or when Delgado strikes out multiple times in a game. I know what you’re thinking, that’s a lot of ribbings. Well you’re right, I’m ribbed out. But it is equally as easy to make fun of a Yankee fan…especially this season.
What is my favorite subject to mock? You thunk it, Roger Clemens of course. I gave Roger his due props in this blog I wrote in May. I personally have nothing against him at all, but it hits a certain nerve in their vein when you tease their “savior”. You could always go with “fat-ass” or “washed up”, I mean their classics. I prefer to put my money where my mouth is. I proposed to an extremely credulous, die hard Yankee co-worker a wager for the ages.
I bet that the Mets “savior”, Pedro Martinez, would be better than Roger Clemens in 2007. How can one determine who is better you ask yourself? We devised a way to accurately compare the effectiveness of each player. Five categories decide which HOF-bound pitcher will have a greater impact on their respective New York ball club. Considering that Roger has already started 8 games already and Pedro isn’t scheduled to pitch in the majors until August, the categories must reflect how the starters perform in the games that they appear, not a cumulative collection of stats.
They go as follows: ERA, WHIP, BAA, K/9, and Winning Percentage.
Here’s how Rogers stats fare thus far: 4.20, 1.18, 2.34, 6.8, and .300
So I ask the readers of the “Fair and Balanced Mets Network”. What are the chances that I win this bet? Do you think Pedro will not only ignite this Mets team and propel us towards the World Series, but also produce individually and put a crisp 100 dollar bill in my pocket? Would you bet on the Mets?

I have a friend who's a yankee fan also. Each year we get together in the pre-season and we make a list of 5 different 10 dollar bets. It's not really about the money. We bet who would have more wins Kei Igawa or John Maine, and I wiped the floor with her on that one. The other ones are still to close to call but I'm prettu sure Delgado will out homer Giambi, and that Wagner will finish with more saves than Rivera. I already lost on Wright vs Arod, but I'll still win 3 out 5.

What if Pedro doesn't pitch this year which is still a good possibility?
