Tommy, you could've left it.
I just forgot I could just delete this blog and re-create it so it's on top.
My bad.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 01:43 PM
An arm that I thought would interest the Mets was also traded today, Joel Piniero is now on the cards
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 01:45 PM
I want Jon Garland
Posted by: Tommy | July 31, 2007 01:48 PM
I want Garland too.
.. I also want Cordero.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 01:50 PM
I just read on metsblog that the mets have zeroed in on cordero...F Mart and phil humber may be involved in that deal
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 01:52 PM
Have you heard about Joe Blanton being traded?? I would love to get him!
Posted by: Sal | July 31, 2007 01:52 PM
I'll trade Phil Humber, but don't even touch F Mart. ugh.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 01:53 PM
I read the same thing about Cordero and we cant have 4 outfielders to play 3 positions so trade the one with least experience, martiinez who is 3 years away anyhow.
Posted by: Mike | July 31, 2007 01:54 PM
I understand Mike, but F Mart has the potential to be a Superstar. Like, MVP-type Superstar.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 01:56 PM
Ryan you may be right but everytime I hear F Mart's name I also think of alex Escobar's name, Alex Ochoa's name, and Jeff Duncan's. These young players don't always work out, I'd do it but its gonna be a tough decision for Omar
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 01:56 PM
trade milledge and his stupid antics; let fmart and gomez flank beltran@citifield.
Posted by: blah | July 31, 2007 02:00 PM
Well the Phillies certainly stepped up to the dish and set the example for the Mets. They needed an arm and promptly acquired Gary Knotts of the Newark Bears. Good move.
LOL
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 02:00 PM
blah. I actually see 2009 like this.
Gomez in left, Beltran in center, Milledge in right.
F-Mart isn't ready everyday ready until 2010.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 02:02 PM
I would consider Carp and Humber for Chad Cordero a steal. there's always a first baseman to be had and Humber's already about cordero's age. Humber and mulvey could also work
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 02:14 PM
ESPN reports Red Sox got Gagne and it's pending approval from Gagne who has a no trade clause.
Posted by: Paul | July 31, 2007 02:15 PM
Why does everyone consider F-Mart untouchable? In 2 minor league seasons he is batting .274! Hell, right now he has a slugging pct. of .377 in AA! The kid is 18, and maybe he has a lot of potential, but he won't even be having coffee at the MLB level for at least 2 or 3 years. If he is the deciding piece to a big deal where the Mets can land a big time player now, I say go for it. Just think about the names like Alex Escobar, Alex Ochoa, and Ryan Thompson, other "skies-the-limit" Mets prospects.
Posted by: Matt | July 31, 2007 02:15 PM
I know that FMart is a future star, but wouldn't you say that Cordero is a current star? Plus we control him until 2010.
Posted by: Paul | July 31, 2007 02:16 PM
f-mart might be a future star, but Cordero is a current star and we would own him until 2011.
Posted by: Paul | July 31, 2007 02:21 PM
Hey guys, nice setup you got going here for the deadline. I was listening to Baseball Tonight's live trading deadline special, and they did say the gagne deal is pretty much done for the bosox. The Mets are trying hard to land an arm for the bullpen. Who would get cut if that happened??
Posted by: Devin | July 31, 2007 02:25 PM
Devin, Gagne to Sox is almost a done deal.
..and if the Mets do get Cordero, look for Mota or Newhan to get demoted.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 02:30 PM
It would probably be Newhan considering how much WIllie loves Mota...
also... is there any possibility of the Mets having a throw-in? Because Omar seems to really know what he is doing with the throw-ins of our trades.
Posted by: Tommy | July 31, 2007 02:41 PM
Not sure Tommy.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 02:43 PM
Braves got Octavio Dotel, done deal!
Posted by: Devin | July 31, 2007 02:50 PM
Octavio Dotel just got traded to the Barves for Kyle Davies.
Posted by: Paul | July 31, 2007 02:51 PM
Can't believe braves got dotel- makes us need cordero even more. AND PLEASE TRADE MIKE CARP AND NOT KEVIN MULVEY, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! HE IS GOING TO BE SO GOOD!
Posted by: Tommy | July 31, 2007 03:09 PM
I saw that the mets offered Humber for Cordero... even though they clearly stated they are not sending anyone to Us... it also stated that Raich might be included in it.... WOULDNT THAT BE AWESOME : ).... and tht is if its true
Posted by: Jon | July 31, 2007 03:14 PM
Omar needs to pull the trigger now, only due to the fact that we may need another bat in there.
I'd take a Wilkerson over a Shawn Green any day.

I have been siting by my computer for the last three hours compulsively click the refresh button on mlbtraderumors.com, God I hope the mets come away with someone else

I need spellcheck for every one of my entries and comments lol
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 03:43 PM
Awesome so we can knock Dotel around as soon as next week. Meanwhile Gagne will pull a muscle singing Sweet Caroline
Posted by: Sydd Fynch | July 31, 2007 03:49 PM
over.
Posted by: Tommy | July 31, 2007 04:00 PM
Deadline over, but trades can still happen, if they need to call the commissioner's office.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 04:02 PM
Great Job Ryan
Posted by: NYsportsGUY | July 31, 2007 04:41 PM
all i can say about this trade deadline is:
FIRE OMAR
he's gotten like a bitch, and won't trade for anyone anymore
Posted by: nick | July 31, 2007 04:49 PM
Nick, it's not over yet. Trades can still happen if they're still pending from the commish's office.
..and plus, with the way the Nats and D-Backs wanted Mets prospects, I wouldn't have pulled the trigger either.
I heard Nats wanted more than just Humber.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 05:06 PM
Omar had a chance to get cordero for humber and carp/mulvey and he passed...........he fucking passed...........Omar didn't even make neccesary moves like solidifying the bench.....he did nothing. What a stupid trading deadline. The Braves have by far and large a better bullpen now and the mets are fine with 4 second basemen on the team. I can't believe the mets did nothing yet again
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 05:19 PM
Milo, Nats and D-Backs were asking WAY too much just for Cordero.
..and the bench is fine. Gotay made it stronger.
However, you never know, maybe the trade is pending as we speak. Just not announced.
The Nomar trade to the Red Sox wasn't announced until 30 minutes prior the the start of the game, so around 6:30.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 05:25 PM
I heard a report from ESPN that the trade was dead, or very unlikely. But think about it, the braves got teixiera, royce ring, dotel, and ron mahay. How insane is that, they had one of the best deadlines in recent memory. I can only hope that Omar contributed more than it seems
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 05:28 PM
Well Milo, they also gave away half of their farm system, and their top three prospects.
That's equivalent to us giving away Carlos Gomez, Lastings Milledge, and Fernando Martinez for Vernon Wells and Jeremy Accardo.
Well, not really. But still.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 05:35 PM
haha that'd be some trade...but they at least announced their intentions of building a team for now...don't get me wrong the mets I think will stay in first place until the end of the year but they played this deadline for the future, not to win now
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 05:40 PM
i respect omar's focus on the future, but he handled this deadline very poorly. not even one reliever?
Posted by: nick | July 31, 2007 05:49 PM
I was dissapointed with no jeff conine
Posted by: Milo | July 31, 2007 05:51 PM
Hey guys, thanks so much for covering this like you did. I could tell that you guys worked the information very well and communicated it very smoothly. I was so surprised when I got home from work and logged into my control panel and saw we had over 5,000 hits before the Mets game even started. Thanks again Ryan, Tommy, Milo and Jon!
Posted by: Joe D | July 31, 2007 06:20 PM
no problem joe
5,000 hits, thats amazing
Posted by: Tommy | July 31, 2007 06:30 PM
No problem Joe.
About 1,000 of those hits were me alone. LOL!
Just kidding. But, I'm bummed, just a bit.
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 06:37 PM
ALL I CAN SAY IS :
GREAT JOB OMAR!!!!
You needed a power hitting OF and another starter. You got yourself another 2nd baseman now you have 4 on the roster. Watch my prediction:
By Aug 30 the Omar Dominican Mets will be in 3rd place 5 games out
Posted by: rob | July 31, 2007 07:12 PM
Dear Rob,
Get a life. Thanks, racist.
-Ryan
Posted by: Ryan | July 31, 2007 07:14 PM
Thats the truth he traded 2 young white players away for a 2nd baseman they donot need. Look at his trades of late and who has he aquired.
Sorry if I am calling a Spade a Spade, but its true
Posted by: rob | July 31, 2007 07:20 PM
rob, stop being a racist asshole.
yes, we didn't want another second baseman, but we gave up next to nothing.
personally, i understand what you are saying about the whole team being hispanic, but WHO REALLY CARES? You are sounding like you are talking about black people in the 1920's.
