Rain Out Means El Duque & John Maine Will Pitch Tomorrows Doubleheader
Immediately after the umpires called off todays game due to rain, the Mets wasted no time in announcing that John Maine and Orlando Hernandez will be the starters for tomorrows doubleheader.
Whew...
Look, nobody wants Mike Pelfrey to succeed more than I do, but I feel a lot more comfortable with El Duque pitching to Chase Utley and Ryan Howard than Mike Pelfrey.
Everyone who saw Pedro Martinez pitching to live batters yesterday, can't stop raving about how good he looked. Omar Minaya expects Pedro to begin pitching in Minor Leagues games in 1-2 weeks. Many of the observers that have seen Pedro throw in the last month all say he is throwing harder. It's also important to note that Pedro threw his entire arsenal of pitches, and was not limited to throwing only fastballs. This is great news for the Mets.
I wonder who would go to the bullpen when he returns in 4 weeks? My guess is that it would be Jorge Sosa. I figure he could resume the role that Darren Oliver had last year and have success with it.
What do you think??

By process of elimination, it has to be Sosa.
Glavine isn't, Duque isn't, Maine isn't, Perez isn't.... gotta be Sosa.

Too bad the game got rained out today, the Cards were not starting Pujols tonight. On the bright side, no Pelfrey tomorrow!! Thanks goodness.

Its going to be a tough call on this issue. I think this is something that will have to be properly decided in about 2 weeks. Process of elimination does leave Sosa out as of right now; however, I have a hunch that it might be Oliver Perez, but let us not jump to conclusions.

Glavine, Pedro, Maine, El Duque, and Perez sounds alot better than Glavine, Pedro, Maine, El Duque, and Sosa. I think we know whose going to the pen.
Also, when Pedro comes back, this means Aaron Sele gets either sent down or released

I'm just really pumped up about Pedro's progress! There were doubts in the media and some others that I spoke to as to whether he'd even be able to play again. I'm just, well, ecstatic that he's doing so well.
And about who gets sent to the pen... I'd say that it'll probably be Sosa, but who knows... Willie might decide on a 6 man rotation. And who gets sent down? I'm doubting it's Sele, even though he hasn't seen as much time as other relievers. I would have to think that Schoeneweis will get the boot. He's due for that.

I'd almost forgotten that Sele was still on the team.

Unfortunatly I think it is gonna be Sosa. Its a nice problem to have though, too many starters. I like Sosa in the long relief role though, he can get inning in and be that emergency starter should the need arise.

It's a nice problem to have, too many effective starters that is...Maybe a guy like Sosa gets moved as he much less valuable than Perez or Maine. Just excited for Petey to be back. Guy was effective throwing 88...Everything opens up for him if throws 92. God bless Pedro Martinez.

definitely sosa to the pen and shoeneweis has got to go
also i wouldnt mind making a deal to get heilman out and maybe a young talent for a solid and effective reliever
