Game Recap:: Oliver Perez Leads The Mets To A 3-0 Victory Over The Braves

Tonight Oliver Perez took another big step forward as he shut down the Braves as the Mets won 3-0.

It was the third time this season that Perez has beaten the Braves and thanks to his strong effort the Mets regain a 2 1/2 game lead in first place. Perez pitched seven scoreless innings allowing only four hits and striking out five batters!

The Mets made some news even before the game when Willie Randolph announced that Carlos Delgado was being dropped from the clean-up spot to sixth in the lineup. David Wright was inserted at clean-up and immediately made an impact by hitting a home run to make the score 3-0. Delgado and Paul LoDuca each had two hits tonight.

Joe Smith came out to pitch the eight inning and was dominant once again. He struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 inning.

Billy Wagner closed the game in the 9th with two strike outs as well to pick up his 11th save of the year.

If the Mets win tomorrow, they will have won their sixth straight series. Tom Glavine will once again match up against his old buddy, John Smoltz. The first two times they met this season the Mets lost. Maybe the third time is a charm.

The game ball goes to Oliver Perez who continues to impress!

I guess we need Ollie out there every night against the Braves. Perez 3-0 against them, the rest of the staff 0-5. Tomorrow would be a great win, since they don't face the Braves again until August. Glad Willie finally dropped Delgado in the order. Hopefully that will spark him, he was hitting the ball hard today. Would love to see the power come back though. Seems as though the offense has been struggling a bit of late, hopefully they will break out against Smoltz. I would love to see him get rocked tomorrow.

Perez has been so effective for us this season. I don't think anybody misses Xavier Nady anymore...

Man Wagner always makes everyone's buttholes crunch, especially when he has control problems. At least he managed two strike outs. I miss X-man, but I think we're doing just fine without him!!! As I always say, I'm definitely a Joe Smith fan. Let's take it to Smoltz baby, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

WoW Perez has been comming up big everytime we need him, remember he dominated the Braves last year also. Joe Smith is a stud, enough said. Moveing Delgado was a great move, he seems to slowly be getting his swing back.
My only complaint is that we only scored 3 runs though, bases loaded no out and we score 1 run in a sac fly??? come on the Mets need to pile runs on when they get the chance.
I hope we take it to the braves today and stop the chop.

I still want Nady on the team. Not in place of Perez, but alongside him. I'd take Nady over Alou. Yeah, I know how good Alou has been throughout his career, but the guy gets injured a lot. Too many injuries on this ball club are taking their toll.

Injuries are what kept us out of the Series last year. Yeah Willie should've had Beltran bunt, but if we had Pedro or Duque, or at least one of them, the Cards wouldn't have stood a chance.

That said, that Tomahawk Chop is the most annoying thing in all of baseball. It wouldn't be so bad if they did it a few times a game, but they do it whenever the Braves don't do something bad. Last night they played it almost every inning.
