Game Recap:: Mets Beat The Marlins 6-4 And Sweep The Series
The Mets continued their domination of the Florida Marlins today and beat them 6-4.
With the win, they sweep the series in Florida for the second time this season!
Jorge Sosa bounced back from an ugly start against the Braves and scattered five hits in 5 2/3 innings while allowing 2 runs. It was a solid effort by Sosa who improved his record to 4-1 with the win.
David Wright, Jose Reyes and Damion Easley each had two hits to ignite the offense. The Mets had seven walks in the game including three by Carlos Beltran who scored twice.
Despite the win, the Mets left 16 runners on base in the game. Ouch!
Joe Smith continues to be the most reliable pitcher out of the pen and pitched a scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 1.25!!!
Heilman and Wagner, who got the save, each gave up a run, but hey, who's complaining?
On the injury front, Paul Lo Duca got the day off and should be good to go when the Mets open their home stand Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants.
Also, Shawn Green and Carlos Gomez will both get checked out in New York on Monday. There's a slight chance that the team might put Green on the disabled list.
Some good news for the Mets as both Guillermo Mota and Moises Alou are expected to be activated this week. Mota should be activated on Wednesday and Alou may be activated on Friday. I suspect that Carlos Gomez will go back to New Orleans unless Green goes to the DL. It's anybody's guess who will be cut to make room for Mota. My guess is Aaron Sele...
It was a great way for the Mets to end a road trip that started by losing 2 of 3 to the Braves!
With the Braves getting swept, the Mets now are in first place with a 4 1/2 game lead!
As an added bonus the Yankees got swept too!! A great day for the broom business!!!
Today's game ball goes to Jorge Sosa!!!
Happy Memorial Day to everyone, and let's remember all the sacrifices of those who gave their lives while serving our country!

heilman needs to go

Although I hate to say it about Heilman, I agree with Adrian. It's obvious that he still wants to be a starter, let him start for another team.

Heilman does not need to go. I still think he is a valueable arm out of the pen and should be kept until the end of the season unless he is packaged in some deal to help out the Mets. If he continues to "struggle" in June and even in July then he should be considered to be traded.

i just cant stand why randolph puts him in the 8th inning id rather have joe smith setting up our games and hopefully heiman gets packaged in some kind of deal this summer and he can be a starter somewhere else but overall great win for the mets =)

Guys, have some patience. The Mets won. They have the best record in the national league, a 4 1/2 game lead on the Braves and the 2nd best record in all of baseball. Heilman has great stuff and has come through with some big outs when needed. I agree he has had some terrible outings, but if he can keep his focus, he can be a great set-up man. Joe Smith has had an unbelievable rookie campaign so far, but I think Willie uses him perfectly and don't want to see his role altered. My guess is that Burgos gets sent down to make room for Mota. While I feel that Schoeneweis has looked the worst of all the relievers, I think they probably need to keep the left handed arm in the pen and Sele is the only long reliever they have to call on. Great sweep this weekend, the bats are coming alive again and the pitching has been great. Bring on the Giants.

This was a good sign that we swept after getting toasted in Atlanta. I agree with Charlie and that we should be patient with Heilman. I'm pretty sure he got off to a slow start last year too, but he finished very strong after Duaner Sanchez got hurt. I say we hang in with him.

I was at the game today and it was an awesome sweep. I feel bad for Aaron Heilman though. Everybody hates on him because he blows key situations. We root for a team whose motto is "Ya gotta believe" and that means everybody, even Aaron Heilman.
