Mets Merized Roundin' The Bases - PLUS Todays Mets Trivia Question!

Mets Roster Moves

To be honest with you folks, there have been no Mets roster moves this past week. Again, I don't expect much movement within the next few days and weeks.

Minor League Roundup

AAA - New Orleans Zephyrs (9-6)

4/15/07 - The New Orleans Zephyrs lost to the Nashville Sounds 10-3. Mike Di Felice (C) picked up the only multi-hit game of for the Zephyrs. Carlos Gomez (CF) went 1-for-4 with a double. Lastings Milledge (LF) struggled going 0-for-4. Adam Bostick (P) (1-1) went 5.1 innings, giving up five runs in the lost.

4/16/07 - After a blow-out game against the Sounds, the Zephyrs returned to defeat Nashville 10-2. Everybody in the starting line-up for the Zephyrs picked up a hit. Three players hit a HR for the Zephyrs. Those players are Anderson Hernandez (SS), Ruben Gotay (2B), and Andy Tracy (1B). Carlos Gomez (CF) along with Mike Di Felice (C) had three hits. Gomez went 3-for-3 with a triple. Di Felice had two doubles. Philip Humber (P) (2-1) was solid. He went six strong innings only allowing a run on five hits. Humber also struck out four.

4/17/07 - The winning ways continued for the Zephyrs as they started a series versus the Memphis RedBirds. Zephyrs won a close game against the RedBirds 6-5. Thanks to some helpful hits by Carlos Gomez (CF), Lastings Milledge (LF), Ricky Ledee (RF), and Fernando Tatis (3B), the Zephyrs pulled off the win. The names I listed all had at-least one RBI in the game. Gomez and Tatis had two RBIs. Claudio Vargas (P) (2-1) was superb again. He went six innings pitching a one-hitter. He gave up one run and struck out five.

4/18/07 - A great pitching performance from Jorge Sosa led the Zephyrs to slide past the RedBirds yet again. This time 7-6. Lastings Milledge (LF) was the hot bat. He went a perfect, 4-for-4 with three runs scored, and a solo HR. He is batting .318. Carlos Gomez (CF) got another hit, he went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Jason Alfaro (1B), the man who the Mets just recently signed, was also hot. He went 2-for-4 with four RBIs along with a HR. Jorge Sosa (P) (2-0) seems to pitch well every time he gets the ball. He went six innings, surrendering seven hits while striking out seven. Lino Urdanetta (P) got his fifth save of the season.

4/19/07 - Mike Di Felice continues his hot hitting as the Zephyrs slide past the RedBirds 7-6. As I said in the introduction, Di Felice (C) is batting .400 with a HR while driving in two RBIs. Lastings Milledge (RF) had a good day at the plate going 2-for-4. Chan Ho Park (P) (2-1) got the win as he went six innings while striking out four. He also gave up three runs on six hits.

AA - Binghamton Mets (3-4)

4/15/07 - 4/18/07 - The lovely weather returned for the AA Mets. Just kidding, the rain and snow returned with a vengeance. The nasty drops and flakes postponed three games for the Mets. One game against Portland, and the ENTIRE series against New Britain. No news on any makeups at the moment.

4/19/07 - After a series of miserable weather, the Mets finally had a game in. And guess what? They WON! They defeated the Trenton Thunder 5-2. Brett Harper (DH) had the only HR of the game, and it was a solo shot. But, the player of the game was Miguel Negron (RF) who drove in three runs. The Mets pitching was superb. Kevin Mulvey (P) (1-2) won the game as he went five good innings giving up two runs while striking out. The rest of the Mets bullpen did not allow a run to score.

A (adv.) St. Lucie Mets (7-7)

4/15/07 - The Mets' game against Brevard Country was postponed due to rain.

4/16/07 - The St. Lucie Mets were blanked by the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-0. The only Met with a multi-hit game was Sean Henry (LF). He was responsible for two of the Mets four total hits. Jose De La Torre (P) (0-2) got the lost as he went five innings allowing three runs on six hits.

4/17/07 - The Mets hit the ball around, but couldn't drive in the runs as the fell to the Cardinals again, this time 8-1. The Mets couldn't get the kind hits as they had nine hits, but only scored one run. Nick Evans (1B) went 3-for-4 as he was the only Met to have three hits. Deolis Guerra (P) (0-2) continues to struggle. He got the lost while giving up six hits in 4.2 innings pitched. He also gave up three runs.

4/18/07 - Bright things looked good for the Mets, until the top of the 9th of this game, as the Mets gave this game away. Rafael Arroyo (C) was hot for the Mets as he went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. The pitching was superb up to the last inning. Jonathan Niese (P) (1-0) was superb as he went 5.1 innings and only allowed two runs, one earned. Eddie Camacho (0-1) wasn't so superb. He blew the game giving up three runs on four hits.

4/19/07 - The 9th inning woes continued for the Mets. They lost the game 4-3. Sean Henry (LF) got a solo HR in the 3rd inning as he provided the only power for the Mets. Eric Brown (P) (2-0) was solid, as he went six innings only allowing a run on six hits. Joseph Serfass got the loss as he gave up three runs on two hits in an inning of work.

4/20/07 - Finally. Finally a win for the Mets. Thanks to some outstanding pitching, the Mets won 2-0. Jose Castro (SS) was the offensive player of the game as he went 4-for-4 with a solo HR. Robert Parnell (1-0) was just outstanding. Parnell went six innings allowing two hits while striking out nine.

A - Savannah Sand Gnats (4-10)

4/16/07 - 4/20/07 - A roller coaster of wins & losses were faced during this week for the Sand Gnats. They won on the 16th, lost on the 17th, won on the 18th, lost on the 19th, and lost on the 20th. The Sand Gnats aren't doing very well, but they have a lot of potential. With Leivi Ventura (3B) and Francisco Pena (C) doing well, they are the superstars for the Sand Gnats as they continue to push towards .500. The pitching struggles for the Sand Gnats. Some of their starting pitchers are in a deep hole and need to get out. However, the Sand Gnats relievers are shining more than their starters. If the Sand Gnats can improve their starting pitching, they may be a team to watch out for.

Mets Rumors

According to some sources, the Mets were interested in former Houston Astros' closer Brad Lidge. However, sources tell reporters that Brad Lidge is not available, yet.

The Todd Williams minuscule saga continues. Still, many teams are wanting Williams. But, like before, the Orioles declined any offers for the veteran righty.

Well, that's it for this week folks!

TODAYS METS TRIVIA QUESTION:

I led the Mets in triples (a franchise record) 6 times. I also led the Mets in Batting Average twice and in Runs Scored four times. After ten seasons with the Mets, I was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for Jeff Musselman and Mike Brady. Who am I?
