Anthony DiComo of MLB.com gave us a thorough draft preview for the New York Mets as we gear up for the 2013 MLB draft this Thursday. While it’s not always guaranteed an impact-type player will fall to the 11th overall pick (which is where the Mets currently reside), but Paul DePodesta shed some light on the depth of talent in this year’s draft: “There are some guys obviously that we like more than others, but there […]
Updated by Joe D. at 10:45 PM Jack Leathersich is freaking unbelievable. He just struck out the side tonight in the ninth inning for Binghamton. His last nine outs have all been Ks and he now has 27 strikeouts in his last 12 innings pitched. For the season, Leathersich has 48 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched. Back in January I compared him to Billy Wagner in an interview I did with him. He laughed and […]
Angel Cuan will be celebrating his 24th birthday today, and he has an early birthday present to enjoy. The St. Lucie southpaw has been awarded the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week honors following a dominant performance against Bradenton. Following his first seven-inning performance of the season on May 18th (also against Bradenton), Cuan came back to do the same in his most recent start, but even better. In those seven shutout innings, he […]
It’s been mentioned a lot this season, but the big league outfield of the New York Mets has a lot to be desired. Heading into spring training last February, there was hope one of the unproven outfielders brought into camp would step up to the challenge. Collin Cowgill did just that; he hit .303/.378/.591 in 66 spring training at-bats, and earned the honor of being the starting center fielder on opening day. Kirk Nieuwenhuis struggled to an awful […]
Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas defeated Iowa 9-4. Binghamton beat New Britain, 8-3. St. Lucie dropped Dunedin, 5-3. Savannah lost to Charleston, 4-2. Prospect Pipeline Zack Wheeler was back in action after missing a start due to inflammation of the AC Joint in his throwing shoulder. Wheeler looked a tad rusty from the get-go. He didn’t have great command over his pitches, and in fact, he missed the strike zone wildly a couple of times. […]
The early season struggles of Ike Davis have been well-documented. Following his second four-strikeout game of the season yesterday against the St. Louis Cardinals, he’s now hitting an awful .157/.245/.268 in 127 at-bats. That line is hard to look at, but it gets even harder when you realize it only includes four home runs, nine RBIs, and 45 strikeouts. I’ve been in favor of sending Ike down to the minors for a couple weeks now […]
