In Five We Trust

While the Mets were losing 11-0 to the worst team in baseball, one very familiar face was sitting the game out, on a managerial-imposed day off. The shutout was the worst at Shea since ’99. The next night, the same player came back and hit two home runs in his first two at-bats en route to an 8-2 victory over Seattle. Of course, I don’t need to mention any names….or I should hope not. David Wright [...]

Hot as Fire or Not at All?

Happy Saturday Mets fans and welcome to another installment of Hot or Not! This week turned out to be quite interesting for our Mets, as they saw Willie Randolph and two of their coaches get fired. Interim manager Jerry Manuel declared he was a gangsta and then guided our Mets to a .500 record for the first time in two weeks. We also climbed into sole possession of third place, gained in on Philly and [...]

A Truly Metsian Dilemma

Okay-it doesn’t need to be said again, but the Mets could have handled Willie Randolph’s termination a little bit…okay a lot…better. Like not letting him on the plane to Anaheim better. For something we all knew was going to happen one way or another, the Mets certainly found a way to shock us and even appall us. Both John McLaren and John Gibbons were let go by Seattle and Toronto, respectively, but Willie’s pink slip [...]

Hot as Fire or Not at All?

Welcome Mets fans to another installment of Hot of Not. Not a lot of highlights this week. There have been some, such as Carlos Beltran’s walk off home run but most of the focus this week has been on Willie Randolph’s job and which coaches may go with him. Lets get started: Hot As FireMy hot as fire picks this week are both pitchers. And I feel both of them got shafted this week. Mike [...]

Where There’s a Will(ie), There’s a Way

I sat there stunned as Billy Wagner blew his 5th save yesterday. I turned the game off after that because I had a feeling of what was going to happen next: enter Heilman, D-Backs win game. Of course, I put none of the blame on Heilman himself because he would not have been pitching had Wags gotten the third out. Casey Stengel once said, "Most ball games are lost, not won." Well, Casey doesn’t know the [...]

Hot as Fire or Not at All?

Welcome Mets fans to another installment of Hot or Not. The Mets looked as if they were on their way back against San Fransisco, but they have since taken a few steps back against the Padres. They’ve only scored two runs in their last 23 innings, with Scott Schoeneweis and Johan Santana charged with losses. But I still have to pick somebody to be Hot and I have to pick somebody to be Not. Hot [...]

When Will the Mets Come Through for the Big Pelf?

Thanks to a walk-off hit by pitch charged to Scott Schoeneweis, the Mets fell to the Padres 2-1. The game’s starter, Mike Pelfrey had pitched six solid innings of baseball, only allowing one run. Was it the best start of Pelfrey’s career? No. Did he keep his team in the game? Yes. Did he get the job done? In my opinion, yes. Pelfrey’s 2-6 record does not represent the kind of pitcher he is at all. His [...]

Hot as Fire…or Not at All?

Happy Saturday Mets fans and welcome to another edition of Hot or Not. This week, we’ve watched our Metropolitans resurge against the (formerly) first place Marlins. They took a step backwards last night against the Dodgers, but I believe that they can still turn this thing around! Hot as FireDavid Wright: Heeeeeeeeee’s baaaaaaack! After last night’s game, he brought up his batting average to .284 and he now leads the team in home runs and [...]

Walk Off Win is Just What the Doctor Ordered!

Two years ago, on May 23, 2006, the Mets were playing the rival Phillies. The game was tied 8-8 and went into extras. The Phillies’ Ryan Madsen had entered his 7th inning of relief when one Carlos Beltran stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 16th inning. That night, Carlos Beltran hit a long home run over the Mets bullpen, sending the Shea Faithful home happy. I had not seen the end of [...]
