You may remember a few days ago I posted about Adam Rubin who was told by a source that Mets may not sign another outfielder. (see below) Today, Rubin gets it straight from Mets GM Sandy Alderson who told him: It’s conceivable we’ll go with what we have, but we’re still looking. I wouldn’t say that we’re satisfied with what we have. But if we don’t find what we think is a meaningful upgrade, then […]
There is still plenty of buzz surrounding trade rumors for Giancarlo Stanton, Justin Upton and Andre Ethier. All three are not being actively shopped (much like R.A. Dickey), but the phone lines are ringing, teams are calling in, and there is active dialog going on. Something could eventually happen with all three marquee outfielders if things break right as they did for the Mets. The Braves, Yankees, Rangers and Mariners are all linked to Justin Upton according […]
The Chicago Cubs and pitcher Edwin Jackson agreed to terms on a four-year, $52 million deal, a source told ESPN’s Jim Bowden on Thursday. Jackson, 29, was 10-11 with a 4.03 ERA in 31 starts and tossed 189.2 innings for the Washington Nationals in 2012. The Nationals did not make a qualifying offer to Jackson, so they won’t get any draft-pick compensation should he leave. Jackson’s deal includes an $8 million signing bonus with annual […]
The Mets have signed righty-hitting corner outfielder Andrew Brown to a minor league deal with a spring-training invite. Brown, 28, has hit a combined .224 with five homers and 14 RBIs in 134 at-bats over two seasons in the majors, with the St. Louis Cardinals and Colorado Rockies. Twenty-four of his major league starts have come in right field, with the other nine in left field. In the minors, Brown has appeared in 239 games at first base, 137 games […]

The Kansas City Royals have signed former Met outfielder Endy Chavez to a one-year contract, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Terms of the deal have not yet been reported. Chavez, 34, can play all three outfield spots and is coming off a down year in which he hit just .203/.236/.278 with two homers, 12 RBI, six doubles and three steals in 158 at-bats. In 2011, Chavez hit .301 with five home runs and ten steals in […]
Free agent Nick Swisher has agreed to a four-year, $56 million contract with the Cleveland Indians, as first reported by Mark Feinsand of the Daily News. Feinsand adds that the contract includes a vesting option for a fifth season that could bring the deal’s value to $70 million. The 32-year-old Swisher spent the last four seasons with the New York Yankees and batted .272 this year with 24 homers and 93 RBIs. The Mariners have agreed to terms with outfielder/DH Raul Ibanez on […]
In a column for Newsday, Marc Carig posted comments that David Wright made this week while discussing the way he envisions his role on the team. The Mets third baseman understands that he is now the public face of the franchise and that the fans now expect him to ultimately lead this team to a post season run. “I want to do everything I can to meet the goals that I have and the goals the […]
According to a team insider, the Mets are still considering whether to bring back and re-sign free-agent RHP Chris Young, Andy Martino reports in the Daily News. The trade that sent R.A. Dickey to Toronto and brought back catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud, created a new hole in the starting rotation. The Mets will not replace their lost ace with a top pitcher, but are seeking a fifth starter, says Martino. Young was 4-9 with a 4.15 ERA […]
