When Jonathon Niese takes the mound later tonight, many will be watching and wondering exactly which Jon Niese will show up. 2008 Jon Niese made his major league debut with disastrous results. In three innings pitched, he allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks. Ouch! But in his very next start he wowed us with an eight inning gem. He allowed no runs on just six hits and struck out seven as the […]
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry about the latest Mets follies, but maybe these will make you laugh. They say it’s the best medicine you know. This first image was taken out of yesterday’s paper and proves that if nothing else, God still loves the Mets. Maybe if we pray hard enough, he’ll send us four starting pitchers, three power hitters, two gold gloves, and VP of Player Development in a pear tree. (Hat […]
According to a new entry on Bart Hubbuch’s Mets blog for the NY Post, Mets minor league players were not the only ones subjected to the mad ravings of Mets VP Tony Bernazard. Bart Hubbuch writes, It turns out that ripping his shirt off and challenging minor-league players to fight him isn’t even Tony Bernazard’s most recent incident of outrageous, hot-headed conduct. New York Mets All-Star closer Frankie Rodriguez confirmed this afternoon that he exchanged words on […]
That was the statement the New York Mets released today regarding the firestorm surrounding a report that Joe posted earlier today regarding Mets VP of Player Development. Who do the Mets think they are fooling? They knew about these incidents long before they leaked out thanks in great part to the investigative efforts of Adam Rubin of the Daily News. They had this information in their hands since prior to the All Star break, but […]
The Mets have placed starting pitcher Fernando Nieve on the disabled list with a strained right quadricep muscle. Nieve hurt himself while running to first base in Sunday’s game against the Braves, and he pulled up lame. He had to be carted off the field. I’m a little surprised that the Mets opted to replace him with outfielder Cory Sullivan who was promored from AAA-Buffalo. Sullivan was batting .290 with 2 homers and 24 RBIs. […]
From the archives of the strange, but true… The Mets may have found themselves a new utility infielder who can play first base, third base, pinch hit, and even pitch a complete game. And the best part is, we don’t have to give up any propsects to get him because he’s already on the team. Adam Rubin of the Daily News explains in his excellent blog Surfing The Mets, Manuel said he has another use for Hernandez. With […]
Pedro Martinez has signed a one-year contract with the Phillies according to ESPN. The Phillies planned to hold a news conference on Wednesday to make the announcement and introduce Martinez. Pedro can earn up to $1.5 million in incentives, and will make a couple of starts in the minors before joining Philadelphia’s rotation. The Phillies watched Martinez, 37, pitch twice last week at their baseball academy in the Dominican Republic. They came away impressed and flew Martinez to Philadelphia late […]
Michael Baron of MetsBlog had an interesting quote from Jerry Manuel in a post this morning regarding the starting rotation. The Mets have setup their rotation for after the break and it will go as follows beginning with the four games against the Atlanta Braves. Oliver Perez on Thursday (Braves) Mike Pelfrey on Friday (Braves) Johan Santana on Saturday (Braves) Fernando Nieve on Sunday (Braves) Livan Hernandez on Monday (Nationals) Jerry Manuel then told reporters that lefthander Jonathan Niese, […]
If any of you want to catch a glimpse of two of the Mets brightest prospects, I urge you to tune in to ESPN 2 this afternoon at 2:00 PM EST and watch the Futures Game. The New York Mets will have two players participating; pitcher Jenrry Mejia and shortstop Wilmer Flores. Mejia was 4-1 with a 1.97 ERA for St. Lucie, and is 0-3 with a 3.74 ERA since being promoted to Binghamton. Flores is […]
