J.J. Putz Out For The Season

The Mets got a double dose of bad news on the pitching front when setup man J.J. Putz was shutdown for the season after suffering a setback while rehabbing in Florida. Yesterday, Omar Minaya said that Putz’ scheduled rehab appearance had been canceled to give him an extra day of rest, but a few hours later Jerry Manuel announced that Putz was being shut down for the season because of new fraying and a slight tear [...]

Santana Out For Season With Elbow Surgery

The Mets got a bit of bad news and good news after the results of Johan Santana’s MRI came back only minutes ago. According to a Mets press release, Johan Santana will require minor elbow surgery that will shut him down for the rest of this season. The good news is that he is expected to make a full recovery by the time pitchers and catchers report next spring. I know surgery is never a [...]

Wagner Traded To Red Sox For Two Prospects

According to a Tweet from SNY news director Brad Como, Billy Wagner has indeed been traded. SNY has learned that the Mets have traded Billy Wagner to the Red Sox for 2 players to be named later. The news is also being reported on the Mets flagship radio station, 660 WFAN. I’m anxious to learn all the details and if the Mets had to kick in any cash to complete the deal. I reported earlier that [...]

A Last Ditch Effort and Olney Puts The ESP Into ESPN

WFAN is reporting that the Mets are trying to convince Billy Wagner to reconsider his stance on invoking his no-trade clause at this moment. They must really be hooked on whatever the Red Sox were offering… Either that or they just want to shed that $3.5 million dollars left on their obligation to Wagner. My guess is that it’s the latter… Jon Heyman of SI.com, also confirms that the Mets are making a last ditch effort [...]

Billy Wagner Invokes No Trade Clause, Will Stay With Mets

Last Friday, it was reported that Billy Wagner was claimed on waivers by the Boston Red Sox, the news was not welcomed by Sox closer, Jonathon Papelbon who thinks he has been promoted to General Manager. Papelbon’s crude rumblings aside, the Mets and Sox had until Tuesday afternoon to complete a trade. According to a report by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports,  Billy Wagner is staying with the Mets. He will invoke his no-trade clause rather than accept a [...]

I Can’t Believe What I Just Saw

What an unbelievable finish to the Mets game this afternoon. Jeff Francoeur ended the top of the ninth with a dazzling sliding catch that was originally called a trap (it wasn’t). Francoeur made a mad dash to the second base umpire and went ballistic, causing the umpires to confer and reverse the call which ended the inning for the Phillies. The Mets head into the bottom of the ninth down by three runs with the score [...]

Red Sox Claim Billy Wagner Off Waivers

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Mets left-hander Billy Wagner has been claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox, according to two major-league sources. The Mets now have three options: They can work out a trade with the Red Sox by 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday; they can allow Wagner to depart on the claim; or they can pull Wagner back off waivers, a move that would prevent them from trading Wagner for [...]

Oliver Perez To Have Sore Knee Examined

In his last four starts, Oliver Perez has shown some signs of improvement with a 3.32 ERA in that span. Last night he faced Derek Lowe who was the Mets first choice to be this season’s big pitching addition to the rotation, but when Lowe signed with Atlanta it left the Mets with little choice but to re-sign Oliver Perez. Perez beat Lowe last night, but it may have been a costly win. Perez pitched [...]

Oh My Gado, Another Setback

Adam Rubin of the Daily News is reporting that Carlos Delgado suffered a strained right oblique muscle while rehabbing from hip surgery in Port St. Lucie, assistant GM John Ricco said. Delgado was examined in New York by doctor Struan Coleman on Wednesday. Ricco indicated that the strain was not believed to be overly severe. “The thought is possibly in a couple of weeks he could be back swinging,” Ricco said. Of course, that means Delgado [...]
