Last week, when Johan Santana was asked by a reporter who the best pitcher in the NL East was, without hesitation he replied, “Santana”. A couple of days later after the Phillies Jimmy Rollins caught wind of it, he disagreed and said the number one pitcher in the NL East is Roy Halladay. Take off your Mets blinders momentarily, and tell us who you think is the best pitcher in the NL East. I decided […]
Updated Post 6:30 pm Adam Rubin of the Daily News says the Mets have designated LHP Arturo Lopez for assignment to make room for Rod Barajas on the 40-man roster. Original Post 11:55 am After passing his physical yesterday, the Mets’ projected Opening Day catcher, Rod Barajas, arrived to the Mets spring training complex this morning in Port St. Lucie. Barajas threw out 34 percent of potential base stealers last year and hit .226, while driving […]
Jason Bay shared a funny story of when he served as Jose Reyes’ chauffeur and tour guide when they were minor-league teammates before Bay was traded to San Diego in 2002: “We were in Port St. Lucie together. Jose was like 18, and I was about 23. He didn’t speak one word of English, and I didn’t speak one word of Spanish. We both got moved up to Double-A at the same time in Binghamton, staying […]

According to a team press release, the Mets will offer fans more than 50 promotion, theme, and heritage dates and special events, giving away more than 400,000 items. The big one in my opinion is the Mets Hall of Fame Induction on Sunday August 1st, when Frank Cashen, Dwight Gooden, Davey Johnson and Darryl Strawberry will be honored during a pre-game, on-field ceremony and the first 25,000 fans will receive a commemorative item. Other highlights of […]
This post was updated from an original post today. Brian Costa of the Star-Ledger writes that Carlos Beltran arrived to camp this afternoon and that he walked with no noticeable limp when he entered the clubhouse and went into the trainer’s room, where Omar Minaya joined him a few minutes later. Adam Rubin added that Beltran was on a stationary bike with no pain the day after the surgery and had no pain. Who knows… Maybe […]

Friday Update Adam Rubin of the Daily News spoke with Kelvim Escobar who downplayed the shoulder soreness and expects to be ready for opening day. “It’s more like getting my strength back, getting stronger,” Escobar said. On being ready for the April 5 opener against the Marlins, Escobar added: “I think so. It’s all going to depend how my arm responds to the exercises and how quickly my shoulder gets its strength back.” Escobar had […]
