Mets Notes: Delgado Conference Call, Putz on WFAN

The Mets get set for a big 10 game road trip starting tonight at SanFran, but they have a lot on their minds besides just winning the game. Carlos Delgado – The Mets have scheduled a 4 p.m. conference call for reporters with general manager Omar Minaya to discuss the health of first baseman Carlos Delgado. He’ll most likely head to the disabled list, which could mean the Mets might callup… Fernando Martinez – Martinez [...]

Mets Notes: Murphy Bats Third, Church Out Again

Daniel Murphy will hit third and start in left field tonight against the Braves. Fernando Tatis will again start at first base for the injured Carlos Delgado. If Delgado ends up on the DL, look for Murphy to begin getting playing time at first base. Manuel said the team will evaluate Delgado on Friday and will determine if he needs to be put on the disabled list.  While a guest on WFAN, Manuel said he wasn’t very encouraged about [...]

Look! Shea Stadium Bases, Home Plate, Pitchers Mound

Check out these great tributes to Shea Stadium that are located in the parking lot of Citi Field. These gorgeous plaques mark the spots of first base, second base, third base, home plate and the pitchers mound at Shea Stadium. Nice job by the Wilpons for preserving a little bit of our former and much beloved home. Keith Hernandez should sign this in gold! Let’s get Fonzie to sign this one! We might have to [...]

Mets Notes – Delgado Out, Larry Too, Mets Are Really Good

Eddie Coleman has just announced on WFAN, that first baseman Carlos Delgado will not only miss today’s game with a chronic sore hip, but that there is a chance he could end up going on the disabled list. The Mets will not make that decision until they evaluate him after 2 or 3 more days. A recent MRI did not reveal any structural damage. Fernando Tatis will play first base for the Mets today. The [...]

MLB News: What A Steal!

I was inspired to write this post based on something I read in an article by Tyler Kepner of the NY Times this morning. Longoria, 23, is in the second year of a contract that could run for nine years and cost the Rays about $45 million. Rodriguez, 33, is in the second year of a contract that will run for 10 years and could cost the Yankees $305 million. I don’t know how many [...]

The Mets have announced that tonight’s game will be played according to WFAN. Jerry Manuel was a guest this afternoon of Mike Francesa on WFAN. On Santana – If his turn would not have come up at bat, he would have started the eight inning. When asked about the poor run support for Johan Santana, Manuel said he believes it all evens out and that when he doesn’t have a good day we’ll probably win [...]

NL News: Dodgers Extend Streak, Rick Ankiel Carted Off

The Dodgers became the first National League team since 1900 to win their first 11 home games, overcoming an Arizona triple play to beat the Diamondbacks with a homer and three RBIs from Manny Ramirez. The defending NL West champions broke the previous league record for longest home winning streak to start a season, set by the 1918 New York Giants and equaled by the 1970 Chicago Cubs and 1983 Atlanta Braves — who were [...]

Mets Notes: Daniel Murphy Batting Third, Playing Leftfield

Now there’s something I didn’t expect to see when I got a glimpse of today’s lineup… Daniel Murphy is not only playing leftfield in todays matinée, but he will also be batting third for the first time in his young Mets career.  It doesn’t say much for Jerry Manuel’s confidence in David Wright lately as even with Carlos Delgado out of the lineup, Wright still finds himself batting in the five spot. Oh, how the mighty have fallen… [...]
