Last night, reliever Pedro Beato allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning. It was his second rehab appearance as he looks to return from a strained right rotator cuff that sidelined him in spring training. So far Beato has pitched two hitless innings since he began pitching in rehab games last week. The Mets announced that they have placed RHP Miguel Batista on the disabled list after he strained a muscle in his lower back during yesterday’s start against the Blue Jays. It was his first official minor league game since undergoing May 16, 2011 surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder. During last night’s 5-3 win over the Phillies, former Met Ty Wigginton barreled into Josh Thole in the bottom of the eighth on a play at the plate.
