Tejada Batting and Running, Could Start Rehab Games This Week
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Terry Collins said Ruben Tejada batted in an extended Spring Training game in Port St. Lucie yesterday. Tejada did not play in the field and is trying to comeback from a strained right quadricep muscle he suffered while diving into first base in a game against the Diamondbacks on May 6. Last week, Collins told reporters Tejada had begun running drills and could appear in rehab games as soon as Monday [...]

Injury Updates: Beato Solid In Rehab, Bay and Thole To Begin Baseball Activities
Last night, reliever Pedro Beato allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning. It was his second rehab appearance as he looks to return from a strained right rotator cuff that sidelined him in spring training. So far Beato has pitched two hitless innings since he began pitching in rehab games last week. He is eligible to return to the team in five days, but there’s a good chance the Mets will assign him to Triple-A Buffalo [...]

Mets Place Batista On DL, Collins Says Hefner Will Start On Thursday
The Mets announced that they have placed RHP Miguel Batista on the disabled list after he strained a muscle in his lower back during yesterday’s start against the Blue Jays. Chris Schwinden was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and will replace Batista on the 25-man roster, but expect Jeremy Hefner to take Batista’s turn in the rotation on Thursday, according to manager Terry Collins. Hefner has made two relief appearances for the Mets and is 0-1 with a 2.25 [...]

Josh Thole Nearing A Return To Action
Before yesterday’s game against the Reds, Terry Collins told reporters that catcher Josh Thole has been headache-free for several days. The plan is now for Thole to begin a rehab assignment before he’s activated from the disabled list. The Mets haven’t gotten much offensive help since Thole was sidelined, but the pitchers have said they like throwing to Mike Nickeas who has been the primary catcher in Thole’s absence. The problem with Nickeas is his lack [...]

Mets Release D.J. Carrasco
Sandy Alderson has only made two multi-year free agent signings as Mets GM. The first of those was reliever D.J. Carrasco, who was finally released after parts of two dismal seasons. Frank Francisco was the other beneficiary of a multi year deal, after being signed to a $12 million, two year deal in the Winter. Carrasco’s release came soon after he served up a two-run homer to Todd Frazier in a 6-3 loss to the [...]

Thole Headed To 15 Day DL With Symptoms Of Concussion
During last night’s 5-3 win over the Phillies, former Met Ty Wigginton barreled into Josh Thole in the bottom of the eighth on a play at the plate. Thole took a jolt to the head from Wigginton’s left shoulder. Thole held onto the ball, preserving the 2-2 score, but it was a jarring blow to the head and as he tried to rise he went right back down. It is believed the young Mets catcher has suffered a [...]
