3 Up & 3 Down: When Cali Came To Town

The California Angels and the Oakland A’s were in Citi Field during this Mets last homestand. The most encouraging thing I can say about it is that the Mets played .500, losing two of three to the Angels, while winning two of three from Oakland. Sorry folks, but these match-ups against the American League West don’t work for me. These games have been almost exciting as watching paint dry. But, these games are on the schedule, [...]

3 Up & 3 Down: A Big Series Win Edition

The New York Mets just concluded a three game series with Eastern Division rivals, the Atlanta Braves, winning 2 of the 3 games. It was looking like a sweep until K-Rod gave up a two run pinch hit home run in the bottom of the ninth. Carrasco then balked in the winning run in the bottom of tenth. Still, there is a lot to be positive about, and the Mets still win the series. 3 Up [...]

3 Up & 3 Down – At the Confluence Edition

Anytime we can use the word confluence in an entry, we should, I think. Of course when we mention the confluence, we’re talking about the Mets playing the Pittsburgh Pirates, who once upon a time played at Three Rivers Stadium, where the three rivers met, and flowed together, creating a confluence. The Good Guys wind up splitting the four game wrap around series with the Pirates, and here the 3 Up & 3 Down. 3 [...]

3 Up, 3 Down – The Return Edition

3 Up/3 Down returns after a brief break, and yes it’s great to be back. Since we haven’t been here in a few weeks, today’s edition looks at the past few weeks; where the Mets have been, and where they are currently at. 3 Up 1. Manager Terry Collins: I watched a spring training interview with Terry Collins back in March, and the one thing that totally impressed me was his positive attitude and high energy [...]

3 Up, 3 Down: The World Champions Came To Town

The World Champion San Fransisco Giants were in town for a three game mid-week series with the Mets. The Giants taking the first two games on the series, with the Mets winning the Thursday afternoon game. I had a great chance to be at Citi Field for the Wednesday night game, featuring Tim Lincecum. Lincecum is one of those players I always wanted to see play in person. 3-Up: 1) Mike Pelfrey: Pelf earns the number [...]

3 Up, 3 Down: “Oh, What A Night” Edition

The Mets won the final game of the three game weekend series in Philadelphia early Monday morning, by the score of 2-1 in 14 innings. It was a night to remember as we all learned that our troops had finally discovered the whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden and killed him. The crowd at Citizens Bank Park which was filled with Mets fans as well as Philly fans were united and together they all burst into a chant [...]

3 Up & 3 Down: 2 Out of 3 In D.C. Edition

The Washington Nationals opened Citi Field this season by taking two of three games against the Mets. Our guys went down to D.C. this week and returned the favor by winning two of three down there. Sadly, the Mets six game winning streak came to an end on Thursday night, but I think after watching this team play on both Wednesday and Thursday night, the Mets aren’t going to be pushovers anymore. 3 UP 1) [...]

3 Up and 3 Down: The Snake Charmer Edition

Alright, our boys went out there this weekend and swept a three game series from the Arizona Diamondbacks, for the Mets their first series sweep of the season. They also have a modest four game winning streak. It was a busy weekend for me with my daughter’s birthday and Easter Sunday, but yes we do have time for 3 Up and 3 Down (quite frankly, I had a tough time with the 3 down). Three [...]

3 Up, 3 Down: Houston? We Have A Problem.

Come on, you knew when the Mets lost the first two games of this series, this 3 Up & 3 Down entry would be called “Houston We Have A Problem”, how could it not be? Our guys lose 2 of 3 to the Astros, and their record is now 6-13. The 3 Ups all come from the Met’s win on Thursday night, while the three downs will come from the two losses. 3 Up 1. [...]

3 Up, 3 Down: The Damned Thing’s Over

“The damned thing’s over,” Legendary New York Mets announcer Bob Murphy, was talking about a marathon game between the Mets and Braves. Of course I’m referring to the seven game losing streak. The Mets were down in Atlanta this week and lost two of three games to the Braves. Friday night’s game was rained out, making Saturday’s action a double header. The Braves took both ends, but the Mets win the final game of the [...]
