Not Even Irene Can Blow Away My Great Mets Memories
With hurricane Irene bearing down on the New York area, the Mets have postponed the next two games of the Braves series, leaving us without baseball for a few days. It’s gotten me to thinking about the “old” days, and old times. Most of you will probably remember the things I’ll be mentioning below (and please feel free to add on), while some of “you kids at home” may be learning something new. We all [...]

3 Up & 3 Down – Mets vs. Braves Series Preview Edition
The New York Mets open up a huge weekend series with the Braves on Friday. I think anything less than a series win, will be disastrous for the guys in blue & orange. Winning two would be great, winning three would be awesome. So today, we have a special edition of 3 & 3, since we never do an entry before the start of a series. Also, each “Up” will also be listed as a [...]

The Best Owner Ever
Today, I’m going to stray from my usual 3 Up & 3 Down to write an entry that has been kicking around in my head for quite sometime now. This entry is about the first owner of the New York Mets, Mrs. Joan Whitney Payson. One SNY feature, the only one I consider to be worth watching, is Mets Yearbook. In one particular episode, the year was 1963, they showed the final game at the [...]

3 Up & 3 Down – The Carlos Beltran Edition
This week, MMO is celebrating the career of Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran. Eager to do our part here at 3 & 3, we’ve come up with a special 3 Up & 3 Down featuring Carlos Beltran. So queue up El Esta Aqui (He is Here)!! 3 Up: 1) Quiet Leadership: A few days ago on an SNY telecast, Gary Cohen mentioned how Carlos is enjoying himself this year, and has really taken on a mentoring [...]

3 Up & 3 Down: Ralph Kiner, 50 Amazing Years Edition
Since our last edition after Thursday’s game against the Cardinals, the Mets lost two of three to the Flordia Marlins, and David Wright has returned to club in grand fashion. But, even more noteworthy, SNY has aired it’s very special tribute, Ralph Kiner: 50 Amazing Years. For long time Met fans, this is must see TV. For you kids at home, it may give you a better insight as to why Mr. Kiner is beloved [...]

3 Up & 3 Down – Mets Shuffle The Cards Edition
On Thursday afternoon the New York Mets wrapped up a three game series with the St. Louis Cardinals, dropping game three, but winning the first two – including a dramatic win on Wednesday night. 3 Up 1) Reyes Return: Jose Reyes returned to the big club on Tuesday night, and turned in two game saving defensive plays. This season we’ve all gotten used to Jose doing it with his bat, but Tuesday he flashed some [...]

3 Up & 3 Down, The Half Way There Edition
The Mets just ended the unofficial first half of the season out on the west coast, winning 3 of 4 games against the Dodgers, then dropping 2 of 3 against the World Champion San Francisco Giants. Games on the West Coast are tough for me to cover, because I can’t stay awake past the third inning of the night games. So, instead we have a special 3 Up & 3 Down, which looks at the [...]

3 Up & 3 Down -The Yank This Edition
I want to start off by saying I truly despise and detest not only the New York Yankees, but their fans as well. I’m not one of these writers who is worried about being “classy”, or tipping my cap to a worthy opponent. I just don’t like anything that has to do with Yankees. Having said that, the Yankees take two of three games this weekend at Citi Field. The Mets finish a nine games [...]

3 Up & 3 Down – Mets Have A Tiger In Their Tank Edition
The New York Mets were up in the Motor City this week, playing the AL Central leading Detroit Tigers. The Good Guys take the series winning 2 of the 3 games. Also the hot hitting continued on Tuesday and Wednesday night. In the three game series the Mets scored 32 runs! Since Saturday the Mets have scored a total of 54 runs in five games! To quote Tony the Tiger the Mets were “grrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeaaaaatttt!” 3 [...]

3 Up & 3 Down – Texas Two Step Edition
This past weekend the Good Guys traveled to Texas to do battle against the reigning American League champions. The weather was quite hot, but the Mets bats were even hotter – taking two of three games. Here are the 3 Up and 3 Down. 3-Up 1) 22 Runs in 2 Days: On Saturday, when the Mets offense scored a whopping 14 runs, I figured they would be starved for offense for at least a week. [...]
