The New York Mets face elimination when Matt Harvey takes the mound opposite Edinson Volquez of the Kansas City Royals at 8:15 PM on Sunday at Citi Field in Game 5 of the World Series.

Michael Conforto is the youngest Mets player (22 years, 244 days) to homer in a World Series game and Curtis Granderson is the oldest Met to hit a home run in a World Series game (34 years, 229 days) when he went deep in Game 3.

New York starters are 7-3 with a 3.30 ERA with 25 walks and 84 strikeouts this postseason.. he Mets lead all playoff teams with a 3.24 ERA this postseason.

  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Wilmer Flores – SS

Matt Harvey received a no-decision in the Mets’ 5-4, 14-inning loss in World Series Game 1 at Kauffman Stadium. He pitched 6.0 innings, allowed three earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two.

Syndergaard usually learns from Harvey, but I’m hoping tonight that Harvey learned from Syndergaard about the importance of being yourself on the mound. So far in the post season Harvey has tossed 18.2 innings allowing 8 runs, 7 earned, a 3.38 ERA, while striking out 18 batters with 6 walks. The Royals have the following numbers against him:

  • Rios 1-5
  • Cain 1-3
  • Escobar 1-3, HR
  • Hosmer 0-1
  • Morales 0-3
  • Moustakas 1-3
  • Perez 1-3
  • Zobrist 1-3, 2B

The Mets bats will get another look at Edinson Volquez tonight. He had a very similar line to Harvey in game 1 allowing six hits, 3 ER over 6.0 innings while striking out 3. In the post-season he has pitched 22.2 innings over 4 starts allowing 11 ER (4.37 ERA) while walking 13 and striking out 18. The Mets have the following numbers against Volquez:

  • Murphy 7-18, 2B
  • Wright 2-16

The New York Mets hosted their first ever World Series game at Citi Field last night and defeated the Kansas City Royals 9-3 in front of the largest crowd (44,781) in the ballpark’s history.

Royals right-hander Chris Young (11-6, 3.06) and Mets left-hander Steven Matz (4-0, 2.27) will battle it out in Game 4 tonight at 8:07 PM. With a victory, the Mets can tie the series at two games apiece.

Matz, who was born in Stony Brook, NY, and went to high school at Ward Melville on Long Island, is the first Mets pitcher born in New York to start a playoff game for the Mets.

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Wilmer Flores – SS
  9. Steven Matz – LHP

Steven Matz in the regular season went 4-0 in six starts spanning 35.2 innings with a 2.27 ERA. In his Game 4 start against the Dodgers, Matz tossed 5.0 innings allowing 3 ER and in his Game 4 start against the Cubs he allowed 1 ER over 4.2 innings. In both playoff starts he walked two and struck out four. He has never faced the Royals in a major league game or any of their players.

The Mets draw the 6-foot-10 Chris Young, who pitched a strong outing in the first game of the World Series. Young has a ridiculous release point which is a strength his first time through the order, so here’s hoping that the Mets still remember what this looks like from Tuesday night.

On the regular season he is 11-6 over 34 games, 18 starts, with a 3.06 ERA. He pitched in the first ALDS game from the 3rd inning to the 6th allowing 1 ER. He then started the 4th ALCS game allowing 2 ER over 4.2 innings. Finally, as noted before, he pitched three scoreless innings against the Mets on Tuesday. The Mets have the following numbers against Young:

  • Cespedes 1-12, 2B
  • Wright 1-10
  • Uribe 2-11, 2B
  • K Johnson 2-11
  • Cuddyer 2-5, 2 2B
  • Murphy 0-3
  • Granderson 0-3

The New York Mets will send 23-year-old Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 3.24) to the mound against the Kansas City Royals in Game 3 of the World Series tonight at Citi Field. He will be opposed by Yordano Ventura (13-8, 4.08) for Royals.

The Heat Is On – Among pitchers with 150 innings in the regular season, Syndergaard had the highest average fastball velocity at 97.1 mph and Ventura ranked third with an average velocity of 96.3 mph. Ventura was actually first last season at 97.0 mph.

Home Sweet Home – The Mets are 29-14 (.674) all-time at home during postseason play, the best home winning percentage of any major league team in the postseason.

The Dude – Lucas Duda is the first player with a multi-hit game in each of his first two career World Series games since Shane Victorino in 2008. He is hitting .444 (4-9) with one RBI in the World Series and is 7-13 (.538) with two doubles, one home run and six RBI over his last three postseason games.

  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF

  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Wilmer Flores – SS
  9. Noah Syndergaard – RHP

The Mets bring the series home to Citi Field after a rough start in Kansas City. After a 14 inning heartbreaker, the Mets could not get anything going against Cueto in Game 2, leading to a 2-0 series lead for Kansas City.

The 1986 Mets were the same, losing the first game by 1 run and the second game by 6 runs. All it takes is a win and we’re back in this, so let’s do this!

Noah Syndergaard takes the mound. He’s 9-7 over 24 starts with a 3.24 ERA this season over 150.0 innings. In the post-season he has allowed 3 ER over 6.1 innings, pitched a scoreless/hitless inning of relief, and then allowed 1 ER over 5.2 innings against Chicago.

He’s also won the heart of Pedro Martinez, and I forever have an image of him holding up the hammer yelling “THOOOORRRRRR” on those terrible TBS pre-game shows.

Not surprisingly, Thor has never faced the Royals in a major league game and the only player he has seen in a major league game will not be batting tonight (Johnny Cueto 0-2, I mean I guess he could get an AB, but I really, really doubt it).

On the other side, the Mets bats draw Yordano Ventura who was 13-8 in the regular season over 28 games and 163.1 innings with a 4.08 ERA. His first post-season start this year lasted 2.0 innings as he allowed 3 ER over 2.0 innings. He then started game 4 of the ALDS and allowed 3 ER over 5.0. In game 2 against Toronto he allowed 3 ER over 5.1 and he finally had a good start in game 6 against Toronto allowing 1 ER over 5.1 innings.

Ventura has never faced the Mets and the only Met that has seen him in a major league game is Cespedes who is 1-7 against him.

After a frustrating extra-innings loss in Game 1, the New York Mets will look to rebound tonight with Jacob deGrom taking the mound against right-hander Johnny Cueto for the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch is at 8:07 PM.

DeGrom has been very effective this postseason, and brings his 3-0 record and 1.80 ERA into what many are calling a must-win game for the Mets.

The Mets have now lost Game 1 in all five World Series in which they have appeared including 1969 and 1986 when they won their World Series titles.

Juan Lagares – who should have started in Game 1 – is in center field and batting ninth tonight.  Rookie Michael Conforto will be the DH and bat seventh.

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B

  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – DH

  9. Juan Lagares – CF

The Mets will try to move past last night’s heartbreaking loss and even the series to 1-1 behind Jacob deGrom tonight. Yesterday the Royals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a first pitch inside the park homer. The Mets would later tie the game and then in two more single run innings, would lead the game 3-1. At this point it became a back and forth affair with the Royals evening the score to 3-3, the Mets taking advantage of an error to make it 4-3 and the Royals hitting a solo homer off Familia in the ninth to make it 4-4. Eventually the Royals would score off of a bases loaded sac fly in the 14th to win the game 5-4. The Mets pitching in extra innings was great but after the 9th inning the bats fell flat.

Jacob deGrom is 3-0 in the post-season pitching a total of 20.0 innings, allowing a total of 4 ER, an ERA of 1.80, while striking out 27 batters. Not surprisingly, tonight will be deGrom’s first night facing the Royals in a major league game and the only person on the Royals to see him in a game is Drew Butera who was 0-3 with a K.

The Mets get Johnny Cueto tonight who has been all over the place this year. When he was with the Reds he was 7-6 over 19 starts with a 2.62 ERA. With the Royals he has gone 4-7 with a 4.76 ERA over 13 starts. Things are even more pronounced in the postseason. In game 1 against Houston he allowed 4 ER over 6.0 innings. In game 5 against Houston, he held the Astros to just 2 ER over 8.0 innings while striking out 8. He followed that up with a 8 ER over 2 inning performance against Toronto. His one start against the Mets this year was while he was with the Reds and he held the Mets to 2 ER over 6.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Johnny:

  • Wright 6-25, HR
  • Murphy 3-17
  • Duda 3-15, HR
  • Granderson 3-12, 2 HR
  • Lagares 2-12
  • K Johnson 1-6, HR
  • Cuddyer 1-6, 2B
  • d’Arnaud 3-5, 2 2B
  • Flores 1-6, 2B

The New York Mets are playing in their first Fall Classic in 15 years when they take on the Kansas City Royals tonight at Kauffman Stadium.

Manager Terry Collins has selected right-hander Matt Harvey (2-0, 2.84) to pitch in Game 1 and he will oppose Royals right-hander Edinson Volquez in a 8:07 PM matchup.

The forecast is for rain potentially delaying the scheduled start time, but the game will not be in any danger of getting postponed.

Harvey is pumped and ready to go. “For me, the season was obviously an extreme success, just being healthy, playing, going out there every fifth day or whenever it was and being healthy and being where we are now. I don’t think anybody’s happier at that than I am.

New York has won five straight postseason games, dating back to Game 5 of the NLDS. It is tied for the longest winning streak in team history. The Mets also won five straight from Game 2 of the 2000 NLDS through Game 2 of the NLCS.

New York has hit 14 home runs during the playoffs (seven in the NLCS and seven in the NLDS), a franchise-record for a single postseason. The previous mark was 12 home runs in 1969.

New York was 29th in the majors with 51 stolen base during the regular season, however the Mets have nine stolen bases, tied with Toronto for the most this postseason.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson, RF
  2. David Wright, 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy, 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes, CF
  5. Lucas Duda, 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud, C
  7. Michael Conforto, LF
  8. Wilmer Flores, SS
  9. Kelly Johnson, DH

Royals Starting Lineup

  1. Alcides Escobar, SS
  2. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  3. Lorenzo Cain, CF
  4. Eric Hosmer, 1B
  5. Kendrys Morales, DH
  6. Mike Moustakas, 3B
  7. Salvador Perez, C
  8. Alex Gordon, LF
  9. Alex Rios, RF

We are finally here and the Mets are back in action tonight in the World Series! We last left off in Chicago as the New York Mets swept the Cubs in a four game set, punching their ticket to a World Series for the first time since 2000. It took the Royals six games to beat the Blue Jays on the way to their berth, their last game coming on Friday.

Matt Harvey will get the start for the Mets. In the postseason he has pitched 12.2 innings allowing 4 ER, 5 overall while striking out 16. His last start was the better one allowing 2 ER over 7.2 innings in the NLCS opener. He probably benefited the most from the Mets four game sweep as he was scheduled to start game 5, despite taking a comeback straight in the triceps. Harvey has never faced the Royals before and only Alex Rios (1-3) has seen him in a major league game, so he’s an unknown arm to KC.

The Mets bats will get a look at Edinson Volquez tonight, who went 13-9 over 34 games, 33 starts over 200.1 innings for KC this year with a 3.55 ERA. He’s been a bit over the map this year in the postseason allowing 3 ER over 5 hits and 5.2 innings in first start, allowing no runs over 6.0 innings and 2 hits in his second start and allowing 5 ER over 3 hits and 5 innings in his last start. In every start this year he has walked 4 batters. In 2014 he faced the Mets twice going 1-0 over 11.0 innings allowing 2 ER over 12 hits while striking out 13. The Mets have the following numbers against Edinson:

  • Murphy 6-15, 2B, 3 BB
  • K Johnson 4-14, 2B, 3 BB
  • Wright 2-13, 3 BB
  • Cuddyer 4-11, 3 BB
  • Granderson 0-9, 3 BB
  • Duda 2-8, 3 BB
  • Lagares 3-8, 2B
  • Flores 1-3, 2B

Rookie left-hander Steven Matz will look to send the New York Mets to their first World Series since the Subway Series in 2000 when they take on the Chicago Cubs in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.

Matz will be opposed by Cubs right-hander Jason Hammel in a 8:07 PM showdown at Wrigley Field tonight.

Only once in major league history has a team come back from a 0-3 deficit to win a best-of-seven series. That was Theo Epstein’s Boston Red Sox in 2004, against the New York Yankees. But as the saying goes, lighting never strikes twice in the same place. Sorry, Theo.

The Mets have never led a best-of-seven series, three games to none. New York has swept two postseason series in team history – 1969 NLCS vs. Atlanta and 2006 NLDS vs. Los Angeles) – both of those series were a best-of-five.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Wilmer Flores – SS
  9. Steven Matz – LHP

The Mets can advance to the World Series tonight! The Mets took a commanding three games to none lead in the series last night. Murphy continued his tremendous post-season, hitting another homer, while Wright and Cespedes both had multiple hits. On the other side, deGrom labored in the first inning (well over 25 pitches) but managed to pitch 7 innings allowing only 2 runs. The Mets bullpen did the rest as they shut down the Cubs for the final two innings.

Steven Matz will try to clinch it for the Mets tonight. In the regular season he was 4-0 over 6 starts and 35.2 innings with 34 K’s. His line from his only post-season start doesn’t tell the whole story. He was pegged for 3 earned runs over 5.0 innings, but really he had only one poor inning, and the ball that allowed 2 runs to come in wasn’t that well struck. He has never faced the Cubs or anyone on the Cubs roster in a major league game.

The Mets bats look to attack Jason Hammel tonight who was 10-7 this season over 31 starts and a 3.74 ERA while pitching 170.2 innings with 172 K’s. He pitched in the Cubs clincher game against the Cardinals where he allowed 2 ER over 3.0 innings while walking 3 and striking out 2. He had one start against the Mets this year back in May and it was very good allowing 1 ER over 8.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Hammel:

  • K Johnson 9-30, 2B, 2 HR
  • Granderson 8-24, 2 2B, 2 HR
  • Murphy 6-11, 2 2B
  • Wright 1-7
  • Cuddyer 1-7

With a 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series, the New York Mets head to Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs for Game 3 tonight at 8:07 PM.

RHP Jacob deGrom (2-0, 1.38) looks for his third postseason win and will oppose RHP Kyle Hendricks (0-0, 5.79) for the Cubs.

New York’s bullpen has not allowed a run in its last four postseason games, spanning 11.2 innings. During that stretch, Mets relievers have allowed four hits and struck out eight.

Daniel Murphy has homered in a franchise-record four straight postseason games. He is one of eight major leaguers to hit a home run in four consecutive postseason games and the first since Evan Longoria in 2008.

Curtis Granderson is hitting .375 (9-24) this postseason. That is the highest postseason batting average in team history (minimum 20 at-bats). Carlos Delgado is second (.351, 13-37).

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Wilmer Flores – SS
  9. Jacob deGrom – RHP

The Mets are in Chicago to play Game 3 of the NLCS!

The Mets took a commanding 2-0 series lead against the Cubs, a team they went 0-7 against in the regular season, as they were able to beat both Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta. Now the Mets will have Jacob deGrom on the mound for game 3 against Kyle Hendricks as they look to push the Cubs closer to the brink. Now the games have moved to the Friendly Confines, and the explosive bats of the Cubs will be in play. However, the Mets have power too and they have Daniel Murphy.

In deGrom’s two post season starts he has tossed a combined 13.0 innings allowing 2 ER while striking out 20 batters. In his last start against the Dodgers, he allowed 2 ER and walked 3, but still beat them as he became one of the very few Mets pitchers to win two games in one series. On the regular season he is 14-8 over 30 starts and a 2.54 ERA while striking out 205 batters. Tonight will be a night for him to move past a team that has given him trouble. In May the Cubs tagged him for 4 ER over 5 innings and July they scored 4 runs, 3 earned, over 5.1 innings. The Cubs have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • Castro 2-8
  • Rizzo 3-9, HR
  • Coghlan 1-4
  • La Stella 0-5
  • Bryant 1-2, HR
  • Fowler 1-1
  • Montero 1-3
  • Travis Wood (The Pitcher) 1-2, HR, 3 RBI

The Mets draw the young arm tonight in Kyle Hendricks who is 8-7 over 32 starts this year with a 3.95 ERA and 180.0 innings of work. In his one post-season start he allowed 3 ER over 4.2 innings while striking out 7, all three runs coming on solo homers. In his one start against the Mets this year, he held them scoreless over 6.0 innings while striking out 6. The Mets have the following numbers on Kyle:

  • Duda 2-4, HR
  • Granderson 1-6
  • Murphy 1-6, 2B
  • Lagares 0-5
  • Flores 0-4
  • d’Arnaud 0-3
  • Wright 0-3

The New York Mets take their 1-0 lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series into a marquee pitching showdown between Noah Syndergaard and Jake Arrieta on Sunday at Citi Field beginning at 8:07 PM.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Wilmer Flores – SS
  9. Noah Syndergaard – RHP

Winning Game 1 always helps, and the Mets were able to do that last night! Harvey was incredible pitching 7.2 innings, allowing only 2 runs while striking out 9. Murphy provided offense and killed a rally the Cubs tried to make in the 9th inning with an amazing play. Now the Mets will have an incredibly tall order in Jake Arrieta tonight, but this is also the same squad that had to face Kershaw and Greinke twice.

Noah Syndergaard makes the start after warming up 3-4 times and pitching a clean inning in relief in game 5 of the NLDS. On the season he is 9-7 over 24 starts and 150.0 innings with 166 K’s. In his first start in the NLDS he allowed 3 ER over 6.1 innings, walking 4 and striking out 9 batters. His major league debut was against the Cubs where he allowed 3 ER over 5.1 innings and 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out 6. The Cubs have the following numbers against Noah:

  • Bryant 2-3, 3B
  • Castro 1-3, 2B
  • Coghlan 1-2, HR
  • Fowler 0-3
  • Montero 0-2
  • Soler 2-3

Jake Arrieta has been straight fire since All-Star break and the season overall. He has a league leading 22 wins on the regular season and tied with Clayton Kershaw to lead the league in complete games (4) and complete game shutouts (3). He ended the season with an ERA of 1.77 and 229.0 innings and has had an 0.41 ERA over 12 starts since the start of August. In his first post-season start, he tossed a complete game shutout against the Pirates, in his second start, he allowed 4 ER over 5.2 innings. Arrieta pitched twice against the Mets this year going 2-0 over 16.0 innings allowing 2 ER. The Mets have the following numbers against Jake:

  • Duda 4-11
  • Murphy 3-12
  • Cuddyer 2-9
  • K Johnson 0-6

Right-hander Matt Harvey starts Game 1 in the National League Championship Series for the Mets, and he opposes left-hander Jon Lester for the Cubs on Saturday at 8:07 PM.

Harvey, who will start Game 5 as well, says the normal schedule will help him perform better than he did in the NLDS.

The Mets have advanced to the National League Championship Series for the eighth time in franchise history and for the first time since 2006. They are 4-3 in the NLCS.

1986 World Champion and Mets Hall of Famer Keith Hernandez will throw out tonight’s ceremonial first pitch. Hernandez had three RBI in the NLCS vs. Houston and four RBI in the World Series vs. Boston.

Mets Starting Lineup

  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – LF

The Mets beat the Dodgers in Game 5 on Thursday night thanks to an amazing Daniel Murphy (although you already know this story). The Cubs dropped the first game of their NLDS against the Cardinals and then one the next three to earn a trip to Queens. In the regular season, the Cubs crushed the Mets picking up 7 wins in as many games, but the Mets were a very different team back then.

Matt Harvey is 13-8 over 29 starts and 189.1 innings with a 2.71 ERA. In his first playoff game he allowed 3 runs, 2 earned over 5.0 innings and 7 hits while striking out 7. He labored through his 5 innings but he was able to get huge outs multiple times through the game. He pitched against the Cubs once this year and shut them out over 7.0 innings while striking out 9. The Cubs have the following numbers against Harvey:

  • Coghlan 3-8, 2B
  • Fowler 1-9
  • Montero 3-5, 2B
  • Castro 2-6
  • Rizzo 1-4, 2B
  • Jackson 1-4
  • Bryant 1-3
  • Soler 0-3

Jon Lester is 11-12 over 32 starts and 205.0 innings with a 3.34 ERA. In his one start in the postseason eh allowed 3 ER over 7.1 innings while striking out 9 batters. He faced the Mets twice this year picking up 1 win and allowing only 3 ER over 13.0 innings and 10 hits while striking out 13. The Mets have the following numbers against Lester:

  • Granderson 12-44, 2 2B, 3B, 2 HR

Take a deep breath everyone and brace yourself for an epic battle as the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off for their last meeting of the season in Game 5 of the NLDS.

Jacob deGrom will oppose fellow right-hander and ace Zack Greinke in the winner-take-all finale of the division series tonight at Dodger Stadium beginning at 8:07 PM.

The winner, of course, will play the Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series which is set for 8:00 PM on Saturday. If the Mets win, Game 1 is at Citi Field.

Matt Harvey and Noah Syndergaard will be available out of the bullpen in Game 5, and rookie Michael Conforto will start in left field.

It all comes down to this.

Mets Starting Lineup

  9. Jacob deGrom – RHP

This is it.. The Mets and Dodgers wrap up the NLDS tonight on the West Coast with a do or die Game 5. After exploding in Game 3, the Mets bats fell silent in Game 4 thanks to a masterful Clayton Kershaw. Tonight the Mets will have to go against Zack Greinke again while Jacob deGrom gets the start for the Amazin’s. In some ways, or maybe a lot of ways, tonight is a night to make Game 2, the Greinke start, go the way it was supposed to go before the Utley slide.

Jacob deGrom was deGrominant in the first start of the series pitching 7.0 innings, allowing no runs off 5 hits and a walk while striking out 13 in LA. In case you forgot, on the season he was 14-8 over 30 starts and 191.0 innings with a 2.54 ERA while striking out 205. In his one start against LA in July he held them scoreless over 7.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 walks and striking out 8. The Dodgers have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • Utley 3-11
  • Gonzalez 3-11, 2 HR, 6 K
  • Ethier 2-9, 3B
  • Rollins 1-8
  • Crawford 0-6, 3 K
  • Turner 2-8, 2B
  • Puig 1-6, HR, 3K
  • Grandal 0-3

In the regular season, Greinke was 19-3 with a 1.66 ERA over 222.2 innings and 32 starts, his season led the league in winning percentage and ERA. In the regular season, over two starts, he allowed 2 ER over 14.0 innings against the Mets while striking out 12. In his post-season start against the Mets, he allowed 2 ER on two solo homers over 7.0 innings while striking out 8. The Mets have the following numbers against Zack:

  • Granderson 12-55, 2 2B, 2 3B, HR
  • Cuddyer 10-40, 2B, HR
  • Murphy 5-16
  • Duda 3-15, HR
  • Wright 3-12, 2B
  • Cespedes 2-8, HR
  • Flores 3-8
  • Lagares 1-8, HR
  • Conforto 1-4, HR

NLDS Game 4 Thread: Dodgers vs Mets, 8:05 PM – We Can Taste It! http://metsmerizedonline.com/2015/10/nlds-game-4-thread-dodgers-vs-mets-805-pm-we-can-taste-it.html/ http://metsmerizedonline.com/2015/10/nlds-game-4-thread-dodgers-vs-mets-805-pm-we-can-taste-it.html/#comments Tue, 13 Oct 2015 18:36:29 +0000 http://metsmerizedonline.com/?p=196390 Matz Steven

This could be an amazing evening for the New York Mets who are now one victory away from winning the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

However, it won’t be easy as the Mets have the daunting task of facing LHP Clayton Kershaw (16-7, 2.13) albeit on three days rest. The Mets will counter with rookie LHP Steven Matz (4-0, 2.27) with the first pitch set for 8:05 PM.

Online Sportsbooks now have the Mets as heavy favorites to win the NLDS,  and it could happen tonight!

Last night, the Mets won the first postseason game in Citi Field history. The sellout crowd of 44,276 was also the largest for a Mets game in Citi Field history and the eighth sellout of the year.

New York scored 13 runs last night, the most for any postseason game in team history. The previous high was 12 runs in Game 4 of the 2006 NLCS at St. Louis.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – LF
  5. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  6. Lucas Duda – 1B
  7. Wilmer Flores – SS
  8. Juan Lagares – CF
  9. Steven Matz – LHP

The Mets can move on to the NLCS with a victory tonight! The sporting world wanted to know how the Mets would respond to Utley breaking Tejada’s leg on Saturday, and the Mets responded by breaking out the bats.

After a clean first inning, Harvey struggled in the top of the second allowing 4 straight hits plus an error from Granderson leading to a 3-0 Dodgers lead. The Mets immediately responded with 4 straight hits, bringing the score to 3-1 and then Granderson cleared the bases on a double making it 4-3 Mets. Later, d’Arnaud would hit a two run shot and Cespedes would hit an absolute bomb to the outfield putting the game out of reach 10-3, the final score being 13-7.

Steven Matz will make his post season debut tonight. On the season he is 4-0 over 6 starts with a 2.27 ERA over 35.2 innings. He missed his final start (or final two starts, he was at the end of the rotation) of the season due to a back injury and there was some debate whether he would be ready for the post-season ball.

After a “rough” first couple of innings in a simulated game in Florida, by all reports he was on fire. His second start of his career was against the Dodgers where he held them to 2 hits over 6.0 innings while striking out 8. The Dodgers have the following numbers against Matz:

  • Hernandez 1-3
  • Kendrick 0-3
  • Puig 0-3
  • Turner 0-3
  • Pedersn 0-2

The Mets will get Kershaw on short rest. In the regular season, Kershaw was 16-7 over 33 games with a 2.13 ERA while tossing a league leading 4 complete games and 3 complete game shutouts. In the first game of the postseason he allowed 3 ER over 6.2 innings, striking out 11. In the 2013 postseason he pitched on 3 days rest in a game 4 allowing 2 runs, none earned over 6.0. He did this again in 2014 allowing 3 ER over 6.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Kershaw:

  • Wright 3-16, 2B
  • Cuddyer 4-19
  • Granderson 3-13
  • K Johnson 3-15, HR
  • Duda 2-12
  • Murphy 4-13, HR
  • Flores 3-6

Let’s Go Mets! Close This Out!

Citi Field will host its first postseason game tonight when the New York Mets host the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

LHP Brett Anderson (10-9, 3.69) LHP Brett Anderson (10-9, 3.69) vs. RHP Matt Harvey (13-8, 2.71) goes for the Dodgers and making his MLB Postseason debut is RHP Matt Harvey (13-8, 2.71) for the Mets.

The Mets had their seven-game NLDS winning streak snapped in Game 2. The streak was tied for the second-longest in Division Series history. The loss also ended New York’s four-game winning streak vs. the Dodgers in NLDS play.

The Mets have won all three National League Division Series they’ve played (2006 vs. Los Angeles, 2000 vs. San Francisco and 1999 vs. Arizona).

Michael Conforto became the second Met in team history to hit a home run in his first postseason at-bat in Game 2 at Los Angeles when he took Zack Greinke deep. Edgardo Alfonzo hit a solo home run off Arizona’s Randy Johnson in the 1999 NLDS (Game 1).

The Mets pitching staff has racked up 25 strikeouts in the first two games of this series. The 25 strikeouts are the most in consecutive nine-inning postseason games in team history.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – LF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Wilmer Flores – SS
  8. Juan Lagares – CF
  9. Matt Harvey – RHP

The series comes back to New York tonight! Like every other Mets fan, I’m incredibly curious as to how the Mets come out tonight in response to Chase Utley literally breaking a member of the team. The league has already suspended Utley for two games, but he’s going to appeal meaning that (at least while I’m writing this at 8:30 in the morning) that Utley can still play games with the Mets by playing Utley.

Anyway, the real focus on the game will be Matt Harvey. Harvey was 13-8 in the regular season over 29 starts and 189.1 innings with a 2.71 ERA and 188 K’s. In his last three starts of the season he tossed 17.2 innings, 3 runs, 2 earned while striking out 24 batters. In two starts against the Dodgers this year he allowed 5 ER over 12.0 innings while striking out 13. The Dodgers have the following numbers against Harvey:

  • Rollins 5-19, 2 2B, 2 HR
  • Utley 6-18, 2B, HR
  • Gonzalez 3-11, HR
  • Ethier 2-8
  • Crawford 1-5
  • Grandal 1-5
  • Pederson 2-5, HR
  • Puig 3-5,2B

The Mets draw Brett Anderson who is 10-9 over 31 games with a 3.69 ERA and 180.1 innings. His last start was a good bounce back one where he allowed 2 ER over 7.2 innings. Before that start he allowed 11 ER over 8.2 innings in his previous two starts. He missed the Mets completely twice in July and although he’s been in the league since 2009 he’s never faced the Mets (which make sense because he was with Oakland from ’09 to ’13). Only three Mets have seen him in a major league game:

  • Granderson 5-12, HR
  • Cuddyer 1-12
  • K Johnson 0-1

The New York Mets will look to increase their NL Division Series lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers to 2-0 after taking the first game at Chavez Ravine on Friday night.

Rookie right-hander Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 3.24 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets and go up against fellow righty Zack Greinke (19-3, 1.66 ERA) for the Dodgers. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 PM.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Ruben Tejada – SS
  9. Noah Syndergaard – RHP

Last night lived up to its billing! Jacob and Clayton were both masterful, cutting through each other’s lineups but in the end, the Mets did exactly what they needed to, capitalize on mistakes, and scratch out a 3-1 win. Murphy got things started with a solo shot in the 4th inning and David Wright had the clutch bases loaded single to bring in two more runs. On the pitching side, deGrom was fantastic, Clippard flustered a bit, but Familia slammed the door shut.

Tonight it’s Noah Syndergaard’s turn. Noah is 9-7 over 24 starts with a 3.24 ERA over 150.0 innings and 166 K’s. In his last two starts of the season he tossed 14.2 innings, 3 ER with 21 K’s (In his last four starts he has 37 K’s, its insane). He faced the Dodgers earlier this year in LA where he allowed 1 ER over 6.0 innings while striking out 6. The Dodgers have the following numbers against Syndergaard:

  • Gonzalez 1-3, HR
  • Kendrick 0-3
  • Pederson 0-3
  • Puig 0-3
  • Turner 1-2, 2B
  • Utley 0-3
  • Ethier 0-2

The Mets bats will have another tall order tonight, this time in the right-handed Zack Greinke. He is 19-3 with a 1.66 ERA. That is a league leading winning percentage and a league leading ERA, over 222.2 innings. In his last three starts he allowed 5 ER over 22.0 innings (2.05 ERA). The first time he faced the Mets this year, he shut them out over 7.0 innings. The second time he faced the Mets, he allowed 2 ER over 7.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Zack:

  • Granderson 10-52, 2 2B, 2 3B, HR
  • Cuddyer 10-40, 2B, HR
  • Murphy 4-13
  • Duda 3-12, HR
  • K Johnson 0-9
  • Wright 3-9, 2B
  • Flores 3-8
  • Lagares 1-8,HR
  • deGrom 2-5, 2B
  • Plawecki 2-6, 2B
  • d’Arnaud 1-3

At long last the wait is over. After four gruelling days off, the New York Mets finally open their best-of-five division series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at 9:45 PM on Friday at Dodgers Stadium.

Jacob deGrom (14-8, 2.54) steps into the spotlight as the Mets Game 1 starter and he will oppose none other than left-hander Clayton Kershaw (16-7, 2.13) for the Dodgers.

The Mets have won all three National League Division Series they’ve ever played (2006 vs. Los Angeles, 2000 vs. San Francisco and 1999 vs. Arizona) and are 9-2 all-time in NLDS play.

Clayton Kershaw may be baseball’s best in the regular season, but he is 0-4 with a 7.15 ERA in his last four postseason starts — all against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013 and 2014.

Yoenis Cespedes, Tyler Clippard, Bartolo Colon, Michael Cuddyer, Curtis Granderson, Kelly Johnson and David Wright have postseason experience. Wright is the only player who was on the roster the last time the Mets were in the postseason in 2006.

The Mets first three starters in this series Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Matt Harvey have started a combined 141 major league games. Tonight’s Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw has started 242 games.

New York completed its 2015 road schedule, going 41-40. The Mets were 19-5 on the road after August 21 and went 30-14 (.681) away from Citi Field after July 1, the best record in the majors

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  4. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  5. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  6. Lucas Duda – 1B
  7. Michael Cuddyer – LF
  8. Ruben Tejada – SS
  9. Jacob deGrom – RHP

After 9 long years, we are finally here! It’s Playoff Baseball Time!

Just as in 2006, the Mets will open the Postseason with a NLDS match-up with the Dodgers. Last time, the Mets swept the Dodgers despite losing their top two pitchers before the series (Pedro going down earlier in the month and El Duque going down right before the start of the series). This time, the Mets are locked and loaded and at full strength.

Jacob deGrom is 14-8 over 30 starts this season and 191.0 innings with a 2.54 ERA while striking out 205 batters. In his last two starts of the season he tossed 10 innings, 1 ER and 16 strikeouts. In one start against the Dodgers this year he shut them out over 7.2 innings while walking 2 and striking out 8. The Dodgers have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • Utley 3-10
  • Gonzalez 3-8, 2 HR
  • Rollins 1-8
  • Ethier 2-6, 3B
  • Crawford 0-3
  • Greinke 2-4
  • Grandal 0-3

Clayton Kershaw is 16-7 over 33 starts with a league leading 4 complete games and 3 complete game shutouts and a 2.13 ERA over a league leading 232.2 innings. In his last two starts of the season he tossed 12.2 innings while recording 20 K’s, including a complete game shutout against the Giants.

He faced the Mets twice in July and they both were good starts. He allowed 1 ER over 7.0 innings at the top of the month in a game the Mets eventually won 2-1. Towards the end of the month he threw a complete game shutout while striking out 11. The Mets have the following numbers against Kershaw:

  • E Young 4-16
  • Wright 3-14, 2B
  • Tejada 5-14
  • Cuddyer 4-16
  • K Johnson 3-15, HR
  • Duda 1-10
  • Granderson 1-10
  • Murphy 3-10
  • Flores 3-6

Losers of five straight games, the New York Mets will try to end the regular season on a high note this afternoon when they take on the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.

Jacob deGrom (14-8, 2.60) will have his final regular-season tune-up with an abbreviated start against Nationals right-hander Tanner Roark (4-7, 4.63) at 3:10 PM.

He had a bounce back start his last time out pitching 6.0 innings with 9 K’s. He is 2-2 over 5 games against the Nationals logging 30.1 innings with a 3.26 ERA over 34 K’s. Tonight’s Mets vs Nationals Game Postponed, Doubleheader Saturday http://metsmerizedonline.com/2015/10/tonights-mets-vs-nationals-game-postponed-doubleheader-saturday.html/ http://metsmerizedonline.com/2015/10/tonights-mets-vs-nationals-game-postponed-doubleheader-saturday.html/#comments Fri, 02 Oct 2015 20:15:11 +0000 http://metsmerizedonline.com/?p=195266 26_padresmetsrain.w560.h375

Tonight’s game between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals has been postponed due to rain. The two teams will play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.

The team announced that Noah Syndergaard will start the first game at 1:10 PM while Matt Harvey will pitch game two at 7:10 PM.

Sandy Alderson told reporters that if all three games are unable to be played this weekend, it’s unclear whether the Mets would have to play Monday to decide home field advantage for the NLDS against the Dodgers.

The Mets will allow fans holding a paid ticket for tonight’s game marked “Friday, October 2, 2015 – Game 79”, who do not use their ticket for admission to Saturday afternoon’s game to redeem their unused ticket for a complimentary ticket to any April 2016 home game excluding Opening Day, subject to availability.

MMO Game Thread: Mets vs Phillies, 12:05 PM – Duel Under The Sun! http://metsmerizedonline.com/2015/10/mmo-game-thread-mets-vs-phillies-1205-pm-duel-under-the-sun.html/ http://metsmerizedonline.com/2015/10/mmo-game-thread-mets-vs-phillies-1205-pm-duel-under-the-sun.html/#comments Thu, 01 Oct 2015 13:53:42 +0000 http://metsmerizedonline.com/?p=195188 Wright David

The New York Mets will look to avoid getting swept this afternoon by the Philadelphia Phillies who took the first two games of the series.

Left-handed reliever Sean Gilmartin will make his first MLB start for the Mets opposite Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff (2-3, 3.07) at Citizens Bank Park in a rare 12:05 PM matchup.

Steven Matz, who was scratched because of continued tightness in his upper back, is improving and should be able to pitch this weekend according to Terry Collins.

Despite the loss Wednesday, the Mets maintained a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for home-field advantage in their Division Series. Four games remain and the Mets have the tiebreaker by virtue of winning the season series.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Kelly Johnson – 2B
  2. Ruben Tejada – SS
  3. Michael Conforto – LF
  4. Michael Cuddyer – 1B
  5. Kirk Nieuwenhuis – RF
  6. Eric Campbell – 3B
  7. Kevin Plawecki – C
  8. Juan Lagares – CF
  9. Sean Gilmartin – LHP

The Mets dropped an ugly one last night, and look to get back on the right path with the early afternoon game today. After jumping out to a 5-0 lead last night, the Phillies scored 7 unanswered runs to take the game. But that’s all sidebar. The real story of the game is Cespedes got hit in the hand with a pitch (just a bruise) and Kirk also got hit with a pitch. Robles then threw a quick pitch that went towards Rupp’s head, so he and Collins were immediately tossed with empty benches.

Sean Gilmartin is making the start today with Matz having some back pain. He’s 3-1 over 49 games this year with a 2.58 ERA over 52.1 innings. He has held the Phillies to 1 ER over 8.1 innings split over 7 games this season. Sean can go more than a couple of innings but probably looking at maximum 5 innings from Sean today. The Phillies have the following numbers against Sean:

  • Galvis 2-5
  • Howard 0-4
  • Blanco 1-3
  • Brown 1-3
  • Herrera 1-2
  • Asche 0-2

Jerad Eickhoff is 2-3 over 7 games and 44.0 innings of work in his rookie season. He made back to back starts against the Mets earlier this year where he allowed 6 ER over 13.0 innings. He has been a different pitcher in his last three starts allowing only 3 ER over 21.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Jerad:

  • Cespedes 1-6
  • Conforto 4-5, 2B, HR
  • Flores 1-6
  • Granderson 1-5, HR
  • Murphy 0-6
  • Cuddyer 1-3, 2B

The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies will go at it again tonight at Citizens Bank Park after the Amazins lost the series opener.

Taking the mound for the Mets is right-hander Logan Verrett (1-2, 3.40) who is pitching in place of Steven Matz who is day-to-day with back stiffness. Verrett will be opposed by Phillies right-hander Alec Asher (0-5, 7.52) at 7:05 PM.

The start time for tomorrow’s series finale has been moved to 12:05 PM due to expected inclement weather. The change was made by MLB due to the game’s importance to postseason seeding for the New York Mets.

The Mets’ lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for home-field advantage in their Division Series is down to one game with five to play. However the Mets own the tiebreaker.

Lefty reliever Dario Alvarez is set to rejoin the Mets tonight in Philadelphia, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Wilmer Flores – SS
  9. Logan Verrett – RHP

The Mets almost came back last night, but it was too little too late as the Phillies took the first game of the series and as the Dodgers moved a game closer in the home field advantage chase. The star of the show last night for the Mets was Lucas Duda who continue his recent hot streak, smacking 2 homers and bringing his total to 27 for the year.

Logan Verrett gets the start for the Mets tonight. He’s 1-1 over 12 games with the Mets that includes 3 starts and 33.1 innings with an ERA of 2.70. His last start against Atlanta was his only blight on his season where he allowed 4 ER over 5.0 innings. The start before that, he allowed 1 ER over 5.0 innings.

In one inning against the Phillies this year he held them scoreless and hitless and struck out one batter. The only two Phillies who have seen him in a game would be Blanco and Herrera, who are both 0-1.

The Mets draw Alec Asher who is 0-5 over the first five starts of his career with a 7.52 ERA. That being said, he’s coming off of his best start of the season where he held the Marlins to 1 ER over 7.0 innings. In three home starts, he hasn’t gotten beyond the 6th inning allowing 14 ER over 15.2 innings. He has never faced the Mets and no one on the Mets has ever faced him in a major league game.

Let’s Go Mets!

After a well-deserved day off on Monday, the NL East champions New York Mets head to Philadelphia for a three-game series against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Bartolo Colon (14-12, 4.15) makes his final start of the season and he opposes right-hander David Buchanan (2-9, 7.96) in Tuesday’s 7:05 PM series opener.

The Mets are 14-2 against the Phillies this season. The 14 wins are the most in team history in a single-season vs. the Phillies.

The Mets have 89 wins, the most since they also posted 89 victories in 2008. The last time the club had 90 or more wins was in 2006 (97-65). New York is one win shy of its 11th season in team history with 90 or more wins.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Ruben Tejada – SS
  9. Bartolo Colon – RHP

The Mets look to continue their push for home field advantage in the NLDS tonight as they start their last 2015 series against the Phillies. On Sunday the Mets started a lineup that looked similar to a June lineup (which shows how far this team has come) as players rested off their celebrations from the night before. That lineup still broke out in a big way as they rolled through the Reds completing the 4 game sweep on the coattails of a great outing by Jacob deGrom.

Bartolo Colon gets the nod tonight. He is 14-12 over 31 games, 30 starts, totaling 188.2 innings with a 4.15 ERA and a league leading 209 hits. Colon has been fairly average since tossing his complete game shut out at the start of the month pitching 18.2 innings with a 3.86 ERA. He is 4-0 in as many starts against the Phillies this year posting a 2.33 ERA over 27.0 innings of work. The Phillies have the following numbers against Bartolo:

  • Howard 5-24, 2 HR
  • Ruiz 5-18, 2B
  • Brown 2-15, 2B
  • Asche 3-13, 2 2B
  • Galvis 4-12, 2B
  • Herrera 1-10
  • Francoeur 1-8

The Mets bats will get a look at David Buchanan who is 2-9 over 13 starts this season and 63.1 innings with a 7.96 ERA. Despite his ERA He’s been better in his last two starts as he allowed 3 ER over 11.0 innings. His second start of the season way back in April was against the Mets as he allowed 5 ER over 5.2 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against David:

  • Wright 4-14
  • Granderson 2-10
  • Lagares 3-11, 2B
  • Duda 3-12, 2 2B
  • Flores 2-9, 2B
  • Murphy 1-9, 2B
