Thoughts On The Jefry Marte For Collin Cowgill Trade
Last Tuesday, the Mets obtained outfielder Collin Cowgill from the Oakland Athletics for minor league infielder Jefry Marte. Honestly, I knew very little about Collin Cowgill and decided to do some research on him to quench my curiosity. Here is what I was able to learn about him as well as some input on Jefry Marte as well. My first stop was to Baseball America where I was hoping to learn more about what his prospect status was or [...]

Bullpen Banter: State Of The Mets Farm System And Prospect Rankings
This might make for a good discussion on another slow Mets news day. Bullpen Banter released their Top 15 Mets Prospects which you can check out here. Not surprisingly the list is headed by Zack Wheeler, Travis D’Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard respectively from one to three. Some of the commentary I found more compelling than their rankings. In this excerpt they discuss the system’s overall depth and improvement in the last two years. Aderlin Rodriguez [...]

Noah Syndergaard Apologizes For Using Anti-Gay Slur
Updated at 7:00 PM As I expected, right-hander Noah Syndergaard apologized today for the anti-gay slur he made on Twitter. During a conference call with New York media, he said: “I had a little mishap on Twitter about a month ago, and it was just brought to the attention this morning,” he said. “I’d just like to apologize for anything that was said. A buddy and I were having a little conversation. I had a poor attempt [...]

Will Mets Challenge Marlins For Last Place?
Hi everyone, I’ve been laying low since the season ended and mostly because we’ve had no moves to talk about. But things are certainly getting interesting now. I saw this post by Adam Rubin of ESPN that I thought I would share. He basically asks if the Mets now challenge the Marlins for last place with the loss of Dickey who won more than 25% of the Mets’ games last season. The R.A. Dickey trade obviously brightens [...]

There’s A Gap Between How Mets And Other Teams Value Dickey
There appears to be a gap between how the Mets value R.A. Dickey and how other teams value him. Hey, that’s how the game is played. Now, with Shields and Greinke gone, the Mets would appear to be in a stronger position. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has asked for such a large package of prospects that some executives have wondered how serious he is about trading him. On the other hand, Alderson has said [...]

The Tide Is Shifting: Alderson Will Be Held Accountable This Offseason
It’s my first morning back home after spending three days in Saratoga, NY where some of my family resides and where we celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s always nice when the entire family gets together again for those 2-3 occasions a year where we eat, have fun, and catch up with everyone on everything. I come from a family whose loyalties are evenly divided at 50/50 when it comes to being a Mets or Yankees fan, and for [...]

Marlins Sign Outfielder Juan Pierre
According to multiple sources, Juan Pierre has agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million contract. The 35-year-old outfielder will be making his second stint with the organization, offering veteran leadership, a tremendous work ethic and speed. Pierre appeared in 130 games with the Phillies in 2012, batting .307 with 37 stolen bases. Entering his 14th big league season, Pierre previously was with the Marlins in 2003-05. He set the franchise single-season stolen-base record of 65 in [...]

ESPN: Worst Contracts In Baseball
David Schoenfield posted his ten worst contracts in baseball on ESPN.com. 1. Alex Rodriguez, 10 years, $275 million: Hey, it’s worth keeping in mind that the Yankees wouldn’t have won the 2009 World Series without A-Rod’s monster postseason — six homers, 18 RBIs in 15 games. Was that worth $275 million? Considering he still has five years and $114 million left in salary (plus potential bonus payments for reaching home-run milestones), I would say this [...]

If Wholesale Changes Are Coming, It Will Be Mostly Through Trades
The other day I was reading a post by Joe D. who made it crystal clear that the Mets will not be making any significant changes via free agency. The already limited flexibility will be furthered by raises to arbitration eligibles like Daniel Murphy, Bobby Parnell and Ike Davis. If Sandy Alderson meant it when he promised wholesale changes, it’s abundantly clear that it will have to come from working the phones and making some [...]

Are You Unsure About The Direction Of The Team?
Check out the latest poll results from MetsBlog on where his readership voted on the question of Are the Mets are headed in the Right or Wrong Direction: If there was an option that said “Not Sure” that’s what I would have chosen. Maybe that’s why he only got 2,600 people to vote instead of his usual 5K+. I also suspect that those who were unsure and voted, gave the team the benefit of the [...]
