Mets Offseason Targets: LHP Hong-Chinh Kuo
I had a chance to check out all the players that were recently non tendered on Tuesday night and came up with a list of players that would seem like good potential targets for the Mets as the offseason wears on. Of course none of these players come without flaws or they wouldn’t have been non-tendered to begin with, but I spotted a few that could fill certain roles for the Mets in the bullpen [...]

ESPN: Marlins Getting A Feel For Interest In Hanley Ramirez
Buster Olney of ESPN tweets – Under category of Actions Speak Louder Than Words: Marlins have poked around in the market to get a feel for interest in Hanley Ramirez. The plot thickens. Original Post 12/7 A rumor circulated yesterday that Hanley Ramirez asked to be traded and is in an uproar about the idea of moving over to third base in order to make room for new shortstop Jose Reyes. Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports [...]

Catchers Market Shrinking Fast
Despite the Winter Meetings still days away, the market for catchers has shrunk by more than 50% in the first four weeks of free agency. As you will see in the chart I created below, only seven of 15 catchers initially available remain. In addition to the catchers that signed already, several have been moved in trades with the most recent, Chris Iannetta, being traded from the Colorado Rockies to the Oakland Athletics. Other catchers [...]

What If Jose Reyes Had Switched Agents?
Before you read this, understand that I want nothing more than to see the Mets re-sign Jose Reyes (within reason). That said, I want to shed some light on all the latest Jose Reyes news of the last 2-3 days with the caveat that I do so not as a biased Mets fan, but as an impartial and objective observer. Some facts: Over one month into the process, and Jose Reyes has only been courted [...]

Baseball Shoots Themselves In The Foot Again
I wonder what my fellow Mets fans think of this Luxury Tax and Penalties that the new CBA will institute for the Amateur Draft and International Free Agent spending. NBC Sports has a an excerpt I want you yo read: Specifically, the tax on amateur draft bonus seems downright punitive. If teams exceed the bonus limit set by Major League Baseball by more than 5%, they get hit with a 75% tax. If they exceed it by between [...]

Mets Should Try To Acquire Saunders, Non-Tender Pelfrey
This morning, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported that the Diamondbacks could non-tender LHP Joe Saunders who is projected to earn $5 million or more in arbitration. Saunders made 33 starts last season and went 12-13 with a 3.69 ERA in 212 innings pitched. Meanwhile it appears the Mets will tender RHP Mike Pelfrey who is also expected to earn about $5 million or more in arbitration. Pelfrey made 34 starts last season and went 7-13 with a [...]

Sandy Makes The Right Call On Pagan
Welcome Metsmerized readers. My name is Drew and I’ve been a lifelong Mets fan since 1972, a season which began with tragedy after the death of beloved manager Gil Hodges. On the field, we got off to a great start that season with Yogi leading the way and the addition of Willie Mays, but eventually the injuries became too much to overcome (Staub’s injury killed us) and Jim Fregosi, who we traded Nolan Ryan for [...]
