The Sum Of All Fears

On September 23rd I bogged on this site the following: “One final word on the nightmare campaign of Jose`Reyes. ENOUGH! You have had four months of rest and rehabilitation and how has that satiated the goal to return to action? Now with the season about to be placed in mothballs you sing the same old song. Forgetaboutit, Jose’, it’s time to mull Plan B. That is going under the knife (disregard the sanctimonious speech above-he’s [...]

Braves Rivalry Hasn’t Been Much Of A Rivalry At All

The Mets will soon end yet another long season fraught with futility against their NL East rival, the Atlanta Braves. This time, the Mets finished their season series with the Braves by losing their last eight contests against them. The current spate of losing to Chief Knockahoma’s former employer is the tip of the iceberg.  The big picture transcends games, but sadly (and maddeningly) extends to 18 years (1991-present).   Realistically, a rivalry is defined as a “competition.”  However, ”it takes two Tango.”  Ever [...]

Please Shut Jose Reyes Down Already

Every athlete, professional, amateur, or the weekend warrior, should have the final say on how to deal with a debilitating injury.  After all options are presented and digested, they steadfastly must have the final say.    Baseball always points the doubters to the case of J.R. Richard, the former Astros pitcher who suffered a career ending stroke years ago when Houston management was suspicious he was jaking it.  He showed them didn’t he?   With that said, one final [...]

Mets Need To Revamp Their Decision Making This Off Season

The Mets are a rudderless organization. How can I make this assertion? Take in account some recent developments: Carlos Delgado’s batting practice sessions have caught the fancy of the neutered GM, Omar Minaya, and he will consider re-signing a 37-year old DH with a balky hip. The centerfielder, Carlos Beltran was benched due to wet playing conditions last night, that sometimes occur in September, but he is lauded for making it back to the team [...]

Oops, He Did It Again

The easiest decision the Mets have to make this year is staring them right in the face: Cut Gary Sheffield. As soon as he walks into the Mets club house today have equipment man Charlie Samuels greet him at his locker with a surplus of Hefty bags to stuff his belongings into. He came with baggage let him leave with garbage bags. The fact that he asked Omar Minaya for a contract extension for 2010 [...]

Leaders Suck It Up…

Every time the Mets go public with updates on their core of injured players, usually another setback like Carlos Delgado’s strained oblique, it is tantamount to the water torture prevalent during wartime interrogations. As Archie Bunker used to say, “Put a lid on it, Meathead!” I doubt Mets fans care to hear about another injury sustained by the debilitated as the countdown of this dreadful season is well under way. At this rate, the Jets [...]

What’s The Point?

Why don’t the Mets make it official, and wave the White Flag once and for all; shut down both Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran. Start scouring the waiver wire for able bodied major leaguers to fill the void. Or, start the auditions, and see if the farm system is capable of producing a contributor, or two. At this point, the return of the aforementioned pair, is futile. What is the point? If both marquee players [...]

Final Thoughts On Bernazard

This afternoon we learned that Omar Minaya has satiated, for the time being, the faithful by throwing the head-still attached to the body of Tony Bernazard to the wolves. As if a suffering Mets fan will rush to their favorite gin mill after work and start celebrating. Who really cares about a behind the scenes guy who has run amok? Of course, its embarrassing, but more to the owners than to the fans. The fans [...]

Does Omar’s Message Still Ring True?

As the second half of the season commenced last night, with a loss to a familiar foe (curses Chipper), it’s time for Mets fans to slam the door on the resident traveling salesman, Omar Minaya. (When he rings the bell close the blinds) Because whatever he’s selling; vacuum cleaners, encyclopedias, and most importantly-HOPE, you should not be buying (or listening).  For weeks leading up to the All-Star break the mantra was, “Get to the Break,” [...]
