When you live on the West Coast, sometimes you have to listen to the other team’s broadcast. It can be excruciating. When your team starts winning, especially in clutch fashion, there’s nothing better. That’s what happened to me while listening to the Braves announcers last night. When the Braves made a move, the Mets had an answer. Clutch offense was the theme of the game. Evan Gattis hit a home run off Brandon Lyon and […]
What can be said about last night’s Mets game that hasn’t already been said about my high school prom. It was long, nobody could score and it turned out to be a huge waste of time. They say hindsight is 20/20, but my foresight in this one wasn’t so bad either. There were a few poor decisions that were easily predictable. I’m still flabbergasted by Terry Collins’ inexplicable decision to take Jordany Valdespin out for […]
El Dramático I felt so good after last night’s game that I decided to write two posts. This begins my official campaign to nickname Jordany Valdespin. It’s a great feeling to hit your first home run of the season. That’s not enough for Valdespin though. He has to hit a walk-off home run. Yeah, that should be good enough for ‘Spin, right? Wrong. His first home run of the season has to be a walk-off […]
I thought about the first three spots in the Mets lineup. While the two and three holes seem locked by Daniel Murphy and David Wright respectively, the leadoff spot has been somewhat of a revolving door. Here is the list of starts in the leadoff spot with Murphy and Wright at No. 2 and 3: Collin Cowgill – 6 Jordany Valdespin – 6 Mike Baxter – 1 Kirk Nieuwenhuis – 1 Justin Turner – 1 […]
John Buck, 32, has started the season with blinders on. He is focused and locked into every pitch the second it releases a pitcher’s hand and it’s almost as if it heads to the plate in super slow motion for him. He’s kept criticism at bay and been one of the bigger surprises for the Mets in the early part of this season. Buck continued his hot streak with another home run in yesterday’s loss to the Phillies 3-7. […]
Guess who’s jazzed about the Mets so far? This guy is. The Mets won the first two series of the season 2-1 against the Padres and the Marlins—including a furious 9th-inning rally yesterday. Maybe not the most stellar competition, but the team has shown the range of its capabilities. In the first couple games, the Mets’ offense exerted its dominance as well as its starting pitching. In the latest win, the bullpen was solid and […]
First off, I’d like to start this post by congratulating Collin Cowgill. The man had a great Spring Training and a smashing Mets debut. He deserves to be a part of the Mets outfield in 2013. I look forward to watching him. “It’s a special day. My first time being in an Opening Day lineup. A lot of jitters but it’s exciting. The fans were unbelievable. Beautiful day for that,” Cowgill said. “It was an […]
‘Spin Watch 2013 rolls on with another multi-hit game against the Houston Astros. I don’t know how many different ways I can say “Jordany Valdespin’s numbers have been impressive this spring.” He’s now batting .348/.388/.996. He also leads the team in hits (16), home runs (4), RBIs (9) and runs scored (8). He’s been so impressive, in fact, that Terry Collins’ latest comments about the young out-second-field-baseman have been nothing but complimentary. Joe D made […]
Updated on 3/10 at 11:00 PM Jordany Valdespin went 1-for-1 with an RBI after he replaced Marlon Byrd who went hitless in three at-bats today. Spin (.360) pulled ahead of Byrd (.348) in the batting race this Spring. Meanwhile, Collin Cowgill went 0-for-3, but is still batting .375 to lead the pack. It’s shaping up to be a nice race and one of the more interesting Spring battles. Originally posted on 3/9 After following the […]
