Excited about the which prospects we’ll be making their major league debuts this season for the Mets? Here are ten players we believe will answer the call to duty at Citi Field in 2013. 1. Zack Wheeler: The 6’4 Georgia native may be the most anticipated Mets pitcher to debut since Doc Gooden. He will slot into the back-end of the rotation after his promotion, but has the ability and potential to be the best […]
On Wednesday I was driving home and was listening to Matt Holliday who was a guest on SiriusXM MLB Network Radio, with Casey Stern and Jim Boweden. Holliday was discussing the issue of PED use in baseball, and gave his thoughts about increasing the penalties for players who are caught using. Here were Holliday’s suggestion. First positive test:162 game suspension (one full season), without pay. Second positive test: Suspended indefinitely, lifetime goes into effect. Give players the ability […]
Sandy Alderson has not made a Major League Signing in over a year. The Mets are currently the only team in baseball to have not signed a player to a Major League contract this offseason. With that said, can you guess who the last player to ink a Major League deal with the Mets was? It was Ronny Cedeno… I’ll give you a second to gather yourself. So far this offseason, Alderson has made what […]
Yesterday, I was reminded about a feature I started after last season ended, entitled “The Keepers”. It’s just a few posts intended to highlight some of the bright up and coming players we have in our system. Enjoy! After spending just over a season and a half in the minors, and dominating at each level along the way, Mets prospect Matt Harvey got his chance and had a very impressive performance to begin his Major […]
The Mets have announced the signing of Aaron Laffey to a minor league deal. The 27-year old left-hander pitched to a 4.56 ERA with 4.3 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in 16 starts and six relief appearances for Toronto last season. He also spent time pitching in Triple-A Las Vegas, which is where the Mets’ Triple-A team will call home in 2013. Laffey posted a 4.52 ERA with 5.4 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in eleven starts while pitching in […]
According to Marc Carig of Newsday, the Mets are now kicking the tires on Joe Saunders. He reports that they are still discussing Carl Pavano and Chris Young, as well as Shaun Marcum. Saunders would be a nice addition to the Mets rotation, and could easily slot into the number four or five spot. He has a career record of 78-65, and was solid for the Orioles this past season, pitching to a 3.63 ERA after being acquired […]
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, multiple sources say the Mets have expressed interest in starting pitchers and have reached out to free agents Carl Pavano, Francisco Liriano, Chris Young, and Shaun Marcum. The Mets may also be exploring a trade with the Dodgers who are shopping Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang. Puma says that any decision the Mets make for starting pitching likely wont happen until after the new year, with the hope that asking prices drop..The Mets […]
