Mike Newman of Fangraphs took a look at a few of the prospects that made their way through the Kingsport Mets this season. You may remember Mike from his former site “Scouting the Sally” which was always one of the preeminent minor bleague sites on the net. His opinion and insights on prospects from his own scouting and statistical point of views have always been highly regarded and his reputation is well known. Here’s his […]
If the season ended today, this is what the first round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft would look like. Houston Astros Chicago Cubs Colorado Rockies Cleveland Indians Minnesota Twins Miami Marlins New York Mets The Mets and Marlins still have six remaining contests among their 14 final games to this season and only 1.5 games separate them from owning last place in the NL East. I’ve already moved on to football season. Betting […]
Yesterday, Andy McCullough of the Star Ledger. reported that Mark Brewer, the pitching coach for Triple-A Buffalo, has been dismissed from the organization. McCullough’s sources told him that a recent internal review of the Mets minor-league system revealed “a disconnect between the practices of the Triple-A pitching staff and the organization’s prescribed pitching program”. General manager Sandy Alderson confirmed Brewer’s dismissal to The Star-Ledger, but declined to discuss the situation further. “He was a valued member of the organization […]
Updated Post 9/16 Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News writes this morning: It’s been hush-hush until now because of the rules of the minor and major leagues, but the window for MLB clubs to talk to potential new minor-league affiliates officially opened today — and the Bisons and Toronto Blue Jays are now working on the game’s worst-kept secret. Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos confirmed to Toronto reporters this morning that the team is […]
The last few times a post appeared on MMO about Mike Francesa, it was about him ripping the Mets front office, or the team, or the owners. Less than two weeks ago, Francesa called the Mets offense pathetic. He said the Mets’ offense looked like they were asleep. He even went as far as accusing them of quitting on Terry Collins. What goes around, comes around. In stunning fashion, Francesa fell asleep on the air […]
Lets have some fun today. After reading something Jim Callis said in his Prospect Chat on Baseball America yesterday, I was inspired to bring out my crystal ball and predict when we’ll see some of the Mets top prospect’s. But first take a look at this: Wow, that’s a pretty optimistic view, and one that could certainly be construed as rushing one’s number one prospect. I’m not so sure I agree with Jim on this […]
The Mets announced Zach Lutz will have surgery on the hamate bone in his left wrist. Lutz, 26, will have his surgery performed by Mets Hand Specialist Dr. Andrew Weiland at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. The right-handed hitting corner infielder broke his hamate bone while with Triple-A Buffalo and missed 49 games while on the disabled list earlier this season. Originally drafted by the Mets in the 5th round of the 2007 […]
I was compelled to do a little research this morning on the home of the Las Vegas 51′s, Cashman Field. I was motivated by a couple of comments that were left on my post yesterday in which I reported that the Mets could be hitching the Triple-A team with Las Vegas after the Oklahoma City Redhawks renewed their PDC with the Houston Astros. Scott wrote: As a 16 year resident of Las Vegas, I can’t […]
The 2012 Brooklyn Cyclones finished their 76-game season with a record of 45-31 – 14 games above .500. It was twelfth straight season the team has accomplished the feat, making the Cyclones one of four professional teams that have done that in the history of the game. They join the New York Yankees, the Arizona League Giants and the Elizabethton Twins. Here are a few more interesting factoids from the Cyclones’ 2012 season courtesy of Courtney Nunes […]
