I couldn’t resist commenting on this post by SNY’s Ted Berg who also has a blog at TedQuarters.net. Berg asserts the following, “They’ll also be one of the very oldest teams in baseball, quite likely the oldest. They were the oldest team in baseball last year, and now they’re all a year older — you probably know how that works.” I have a few problems with that statement and find it to be very misleading, but more […]
I wanted to add a quick update based on some new information from this morning. According to MetsBlog, the Royals are now getting back to teams who have expressed interest in acquiring RHP Zach Greinke, but no word on if that includes the Mets. The Nationals are ‘aggressively pursuing’ a trade for Rays RHP Matt Garza or Greinke,” according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post. The Rangers, Twins, Braves, Mariners, Yankees, Brewers, Cubs and Blue […]
As Oliver Perez continues to see his stock fall while pitching Winter Ball in the Mexican Winter League, young Jenrry Mejia is getting back in the swing of things and by all accounts is on the upswing. Last night, Oliver Perez got shelled again while pitching for Los Tomateros de Culiacan. Perez allowed six runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings and raised his his ERA to 5.73 in 22 innings pitched. There’s a growing segment of those who […]
When I read that Dave Hudgens had a blog called Swing Away, you just know I had to drop by a take a look. I was thrilled beyond belief when I came across this one post entitled, ”Becoming A Crunch Time Player“. In it Hudgens goes into the age old debate about how some players are clutch (O-Dog, Epstein), while others simply choke (Wright and countless others) under pressure. I love his take on it, and maybe his […]

The New York Mets today announced that they have signed free agent catcher Ronny Paulino to a one-year contract and free agent righthanded pitcher D.J. Carrasco to a two-year contract. Ronny Paulino Paulino, 29, has a .273 (431-1576) batting average over his six-year major league career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Florida Marlins. He hit .259 (82-361) with 18 doubles, four home runs and 37 RBI in 91 games for the Marlins last season. The […]
According to Newsday’s Ken Davidoff via Twitter, the Mets signed pitcher Boof Bonser to a minor league contract. The 29-year-old right-hander pitched 25 innings between the A’s and Red Sox last season and posted a 6.12 ERA. The A’s outrighted Bonser who refused the assignment, and elected to become a free agent Bonser missed the entire 2009 season rehabbing from shoulder surgery after doctors discovered partial tears in the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Over 4 seasons, he has […]
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Mets and free-agent, right-handed reliever D.J. Carrasco have agreed to a two-year deal, Carrasco, was 3-2 with a 3.68 ERA and .239 batting average against last season for Pittsburgh and Arizona. He held right-handed hitters to a .228 batting average, while left-handed batters hit .260 against him. Carrasco, 34 in April, is very durable and a workhorse in the bullpen, but it’s still surprising he received a guaranteed two year deal. […]
