A couple of weeks ago, in the post you can read below, I said Daniel Murphy was the early favorite for the second base job. Of course my comments were tongue in cheek and just making light of his early showing to Spring Training. That said, a few hours ago during a televised press conference on SNY, I believe that Terry Collins may have tipped his hand regarding who his favorite is for the everyday second […]
In an exclusive interview with the New York Times, convicted felon Bernard Madoff said that the Wilpons “knew nothing” about the Ponzi scheme. Mr. Madoff said about Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz, Mr. Wilpon’s brother-in-law and business partner: “They knew nothing. They knew nothing.” Madoff said the trustee Irving Picard has no evidence that the Mets owners had any knowledge of the fraud, and that Picard is operating solely on his suspicion and contention that they should have known. It […]
As I was reading Adam Rubin’s blog for ESPN New York, I came across a few pictures that Adam posted from Mets Spring Training at Port St. Lucie. Like all teams, the Mets go into Spring Training with many questions to answer as players battle to win spots on the 25-man roster. Two positions where the Mets are definitely set, are at the corner infield spots where Ike Davis and David Wright bring a potent bat […]
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reported that Mets second base prospect Reese Havens at Mets camp today and revealed he underwent surgery eight weeks ago. The procedure shaved an inch off a rib that was rubbing against another rib on his left side and also irritating the oblique. It was performed at Dr. James Andrews’ clinic in Birmingham, Ala., by colleague Dr. William Clancy. Havens called the issue “rib tip syndrome.” Havens said that he […]
Only 48 hours until pitchers and catchers report and a new season of Mets baseball gets underway. Last week, former Governor Patterson was a guest of Steve Somers on WFAN. At one point during the show, Somers said “Hard to believe that we are only one week away before Mets pitchers and catchers report”. Governor Patterson chuckled and then responded, “Steve, I think you meant to say one week until catchers report, the Mets have […]
You can call this a companion post to Jim Mancari’s earlier post on Brad Emaus. I want to touch on another few concerns I have with Brad Emaus and this fan-wide enthusiasm that he was the steal of the Rule 5 Draft and that he’ll win the second base job this spring. Not so fast. In addition to the points Jim laid out, I found some troubling information from looking at his splits. Sometimes you […]
Dan Martin of the NY Post, had a quote from reliever Bobby Parnell who talked about why he didn’t make the team out of Spring Training last season and ended up starting the season with Triple-A Buffalo. “I got caught up into working on my off-speed pitches too much instead of pitching and I had a couple of bad outings,” Parnell said at Digital Domain Park. “I didn’t really prove anything last year while I […]
In a post to MetsBlog, Matt Cerrone shared a concern from one of his Twitter followers that lead to a post entitled: Where are Ollie and Castillo? He replied on his blog, I’ve been thinking the same thing. I mean, I hate to judge, because who knows, maybe they have something important going on in their personal lives, etc., that preclude them from attending these voluntary workouts? Then again, it’s not news that these two are […]
Joel Sherman of the NY Post had something interesting to think about this morning. I guess even journalists and reporters love to speculate as much as we fans and bloggers do, but his reasoning for a swap of Jason Bay for Michael Young had some real bite to it. Sherman says that if he were running the Mets he would be on the phone doing everything possible to pry Michael Young away from the Texas […]
