Steve Serby of the NY Post intreviews Jose Reyes for his Serby’s Sunday series. Here are just a few of the questions asked, but check out the full three page interview here. Q: Carl Crawford signed a seven-year, $142 million deal with the Red Sox. Does it have to be seven years for you? Could it be less? A: Right now I don’t think about that. I’m not a free agent yet (laughs). It’s gonna […]
Mike Mazzeo of ESPN reports that right-hander R.A. Dickey long-tossed with pitching coach Dan Warthen on Saturday and remains on track to throw a bullpen Sunday and make his scheduled Tuesday start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he told reporters. “It’s manageable,” Dickey said of the discomfort in his right heel. “I’m optimistic.” Dickey was diagnosed with a partially torn plantar facia in his right foot, and is day-to-day. Earlier today, it was also reported that the Mets held […]
Daniel Murphy has done everything the Mets have asked of his this season, and has performed reasonably well in the field and at the plate. Today however, things just didn’t go particularly well for the Murph-Man as the Mets lose a heart-breaker to the Phillies 6-4 at Citi Field. The turning point in the game came in the top of the ninth with the score tied 3-3 and K-Rod in to keep the Phillies at […]
The Phillies are coming, the Phillies are coming… Just read a decent post from Jeff Bradley on the Star-Ledger who thinks that the Mets should use the Phillies as a model of what type of franchise we want to be. Since the end of the 2006 season, the Phillies have gone 402-296, won four consecutive NL East titles, made two trips to the World Series and captured one title. The Mets, meanwhile, have gone 349-348 […]
Jon Morosi of FOX Sports is convinced the Mets are on the verge of a fire sale and that it could happen well ahead of the July Trade Deadline. “Think about it, he said. ”If you’re a manager, and your boss fears a potential operating loss of $70 million, dumping liabilities from the books would be a really good way to impress him.” He lists Carlos Beltran as an example of why they will act sooner […]
After Tuesday night’s 11-1 loss to the Cubs, Mets GM Sandy Alderson spoke with reporters and mostly discussed the comments made by Fred Wilpon in interviews with both Sports Illustrated and the New Yorker this week. “I think everyone was surprised by the comments. But there’s nobody who is more passionate about the Mets, has more empathy for the players, than Fred. I think that we all get caught up in the emotion from time to time and […]
Left fielder Jason Bay left tonight’s game against the Cubs in the seventh inniing with a stiff right calf. Bay was replaced by Fernando Martinez and while It was unclear when the injury occurred, he pulled because the weather in Chicago was very cold and it was a lop-sided game. Apparently, Bay told manager Terry Collins about the problem before the game. “We were running around, shagging fly balls in BP today, and just had some very, very, very minor […]
Moments ago on WFAN, Mike Francesa said the following about comments Jeff Wilpon made regarding Reyes not getting a Carl Crawford type deal. “Jose Reyes sat right there in that chair and looked me in the eye and told me he was looking for the same deal Carl Crawford signed. He sat right there in that chair. He said it on the air loud and clear, that he expects to get paid like Carl Crawford. […]
