With the Mets all set to kick off the second half of the season, they got some bad news yesterday on first baseman Ike Davis who is now facing the possibility of season ending surgery. They must also figure out a way to keep fighting the good fight without a bona fide closer, after Francisco Rodriguez was slashed so the Wilpons could pocket about $20 million dollars which will most likely never be re-invested. The Mets will now implement […]
Mets first baseman Ike Davis spoke with reporters and it appears that he has suffered a setback. Davis announced that he has received a cortisone shot in his ankle to alleviate the pain that had developed after running last week. Davis will now rest for the next three weeks and hope that he can avoid season-ending microfracture surgery. Apparently, the reports that Davis was pain free last weekend may have been premature or miscommunicated. What did happen was that Davis felt significant […]
The season long question of whether the Mets would be buyers or sellers at the Trade Deadline, has now been answered. These exclusive photos provide convincing evidence that the Mets are in fact sellers, which of course most teams are when they are 11 games back and wallowing in third place. The only thing I can see worth buying is that guy’s shirt, it matches the wallpaper in our bathroom. I wonder how much they want […]
What a treat it was to watch and listen to legendary broadcasters Bob Costas and Al Michaels covering the Mets game last night, if only for a couple of innings. It felt like it was the post season and somehow the Mets were playing the Giants in the Wild Card round. If only that were true, but hearing the two of them certainly gave me a taste of what that would be like, and I […]
Baseball America has included Mets pitching prospect Matt Harvey in their Midseason Top 50 Prospects after being snubbed in their Pre-Season Top 100. The Mets’ 2010 first round draft pick, checked in at No. 30 and is gaining momentum after a dominating performance at Single-A Port St. Lucie. Harvey was promoted to Double-A Binghamton a week ago and overall his record now stands at 8-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 88 innings, during which he racked up 106 strike outs against just 28 […]
Last night, during the Mets/Dodgers broadcast on SNY, Sandy Alderson visited Ron Darling and Gary Cohen in the booth for what was supposed to be one inning. However the inning went by so quickly, Alderson was asked by Cohen if he could stay an extra half inning because he had more questions to ask. Alderson agreed. Gary Cohen: It seems like there’s a good chance, based on how Terry Collins uses Francisco Rodriguez, that he […]
Bill Price of the Daily News says that Mets fans should appreciate Carlos Beltran while we still can, and points out the arguments from both sides of Beltran’s tenure in New York.. The folks who dislike Beltran will single out his at-bat against Adam Wainwright that ended the 2006 NLCS and ended with the bat on his shoulder – as if a swing and a miss would’ve been easier to take. His lost 2009 and […]
Updated Post: The Mets have reported that Jose Reyes underwent an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery that revealed a Grade 1 strain to his left hamstring. This is considered a mild strain and great news for Reyes and the team. “Just a little bit of a strain. I mean, nothing big,” Reyes said. “I know we’re going to take it one day at a time and see what happens, but it’s real good news. Today […]
From Brent Johnson in the Star-Ledger: According to a new poll from Quinnipiac University, 48 percent of the Garden State’s baseball fans root for the Yankees, while 22 percent prefer the Phillies. Sixteen percent are Mets fans. Three percent root for the Boston Red Sox. Other teams make up 1 percent each. Damn Joisey, that’s cold! I wonder how many of them root for the Eagles too??
