The Mets rotation has had its share of struggles this year, as we all know. Mike Pelfrey got off to a terrible start and R.A Dickey, who was signed to a two-year deal, looks nothing like the pitcher we saw last season. The one bright spot, Chris Young, is now out for the season after pitching just 24 innings as a Met. Chris Capuano and Jon Niese have been inconsistent at best. Lately however, there seems to be a shift in performance […]
April was the start of something fresh for the Mets. Terry Collins was the new face in the Mets dugout, Sandy Alderson was the new face of the front office, and things were starting to get better for the Mets. Well, not exactly. After a long spring, opening day was here, and fans were cautiously optimistic as they usually are with the team. As we all know, April wasn’t as kind to the Mets as we all hoped it […]
Last week, my colleague Craig Lerner reported that the Mets promoted Jeruys Familia to Double-A Binghamton, as he was pitching really well in Port St Lucie for the St. Lucie Mets. During his stint in St. Lucie, Familia was 1-1, with a 1.49 ERA, 36 K’s, and 8 walks. Now that Familia was called up to Binghamton, its time to see how Familia will hold up. As I’ve said about Matt Harvey, when he (I’m now […]
According to Adam Rubin via Twitter, Pedro Beato tossed an inning in an extended spring training game Friday for the first time since landing on the disabled list with what the team officially called right elbow tendinitis. Beato landed on the DL on May 4, three days after pitching three scoreles innings in relief at Philadelphia. The Mets are expected to activate him from the DL on Tuesday when he is elgible to return. Beato, 24, is 1-0 […]
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, reported on Thursday that Johan Santana began throwing off the mound this week for the first time since he had surgery to repair his left shoulder. Santana threw 15 pitches off the slope of the mound, but not from the rubber, that will come next. It’s a huge step forward for Johan, and a sure sign that things are really progressing well during his rehab. Santana has been throwing off of flat ground since […]
Before this afternoon’s make-up game against the Rockies, Mets assistant GM John Ricco gave reporters an update on Angel Pagan, Bobby Parnell, and also discussed Ike Davis’s injury. Angel Pagan: According to Ricco, Angel Pagan is still yet to return to baseball activities. Bobby Parnell: Parnell is scheduled to pitch today for Triple-A Buffalo. As soon as the game is over, Ricco said Parnell will be evaluated by the staff, and a decision could be made afterwards. Ike Davis: Ricco […]
Earlier this week, the Mariners designated CF Milton Bradley for assignment, as reported by MLB Trade Rumors. As we all know, the Mets bench has not been hitting the ball well offensively for most of the season. Guys like Willie Harris, Chin-lung Hu and Scott Hairston have been struggling a lot at the plate. Jason Pridie seems to be the only player off the bench swinging a decent bat. With Milton Bradley on his way out of Seattle, this question comes to […]
I’m pleased to present a Q&A I recently conducted with Michael Baron of MetsBlog. Like a lot of us, Michael is a very passionate Mets fan who eats, drinks, and sleeps Mets. As we all know, he does an amazing job covering the Mets on a variety of levels, whether its through his contributions on MetsBlog, his spectacular photography, or through his in-game tweets on Twitter. Michael finds a variety of ways to not only cover the Mets, but also share his immense passion […]
As spring training officially was under way, Matt Harvey came into Port St Lucie as the Mets newest pitching prospect. No one really knew who this guy was when he was drafted. The only thing anyone really knew about Harvey, was that he was chosen by the Mets as the 7th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. Coming into his first professional season, expectations for him have been set very high. As May comes around, Matt […]
